In a world where everyone is going fast, we are going slower. There is no schedule or cut-off time... we love the simplicity of our new normal, the life in the countryside.
We are building our home in a place that is rural, and we started building it in June of 2023.
The exterior it is done, just needs to be painted.
Now, we are working inside.
Building our own cabin is hard work.
We are a couple that loves the outdoors, got the courage to leave it all behind to start a new chapter in our lives, but first, we must build a shelter for the winter, and we are doing this for the first time.
We were off grid for the first 6 months and living in a camper trailer that we remodeled because it was in bad shape (video coming soon).
This is our journey, and we hope that is inspiring you too in living a simple and sustainable life.
This is not a tutorial. We are not trying to educate no one on how to build a house.
We are just doing it because we want to be debt free, spend more time together, and we don't want to live a complicated life.
We dream for a SIMPLE LIFE, yet it is COMPLICATED at the moment.
If anyone is inspired by us, that would be great, we are doing it because we got inspired by other channels on RU-vid.
We started building our cabins foundation piers on August 2022, digging by hand 6 of our piers and the other 6 we have digged by escavator in mid May of 2023.
On June 3rd, we started building the cabin full time, which is 24 x 26 feet.

I'm sure you will find it very useful and reliable. I have an H12 which is a twin to your H13R without the cab. it's about 2 years old with @200-250 hours on it. Some things you'll want to do out of the box is change the engine oil, they use cheap oil for break in. Inspect where your hydraulic hoses contact metal and add protection (either an old, sliced garden hose or amazon has hose protectors for a reasonable price) The hydraulic oil they use is not great quality and I recommend changing it no later than 100 hours. mine uses iso 46, yours is probably the same. but check your manual if you have it. A 12v cooling fan will work wonders in the engine compartment. it's a cheap upgrade. make sure you check all bolts and fasteners regularly, (swing motor bolts were loose on mine) if you wish to ensure they won't loosen add Loctite to them, especially the ones you find that have loosened. if it doesn't have a hydraulic cooler, you can add one but it's a bit pricy to upgrade (@4-500). I do recommend at least a hydraulic filter addition. On mine I've added the hydraulic cooler with filter, lighting upgrade, 12v cooling fan and some comfort mods, better seat etc. if you take care of it.... it will last a long time, there is a guy on RU-vid that runs his as a business unit and if I recall correctly, he got 900+ hours out of the engine before it gave up. but direct replacements are cheap and easy to get at harbor freight or I think a Duralast engine is compatible. engine replacement is a long way off though lol. I also have an articulated loader like yours, a bigger model but I luv it too. Enjoy your new Helpful tools!

Next Michael will have to build a barn to park the equipment in. I am glad he does not have to dig by hand. He worked so hard doing all that block work I was worried he would hurt his back.

Indeed we need a shelter for our machines yet no time for it. Michael has a lot of patience and will to do a lot, yet he is human, and he needs help. Im glad that we got the excavator to help him. Thanks again for your comments!

You guys should make/buy a dump trailer with a big hydraulic dumping arm. Super useful and then no more renting uhauls!

Thank you! We thought so, too, yet being actually here, we realized that we would never need high power for everything, and when we need more power, we'll rent a bigger one. So far, this year, we didn't need a larger excavator at all, so we are happy with this smaller one and the mini loader. Succes in your endeavors!

I have a Rippa mini with the same cab as you. You may want to reinforce where the door piston mounts to the door frame. The metal there is so thin on the door that the bracket ripped a chunk of the frame right out after a couple of months of me using the door. Also, if you have a seat belt, I'd suggest getting in the habit of using it. It saved me from breaking my nose into the windshield of the cab more than once as the machine is very 'jerky' (in my case I was pulling concrete footers from a trailer demo and one slipped from the bucket while lifting and the resulting rocking action felt like I was riding a bronco). Good luck have fun, these units are very aftermarket friendly for modifications and there are no shortage of videos out there for what you can do with them. I personally added some cooling fans, a latch kit for back panel access, oil temp gage and some fun decals.

Thanks for the advice! I have no seat belt. I would need one. The back panel access is smart!!!

now our two year old wants mama and papa to buy a farm so he can drive a mini excavator.

Hahaha... That's a good reason to buy a farm!!!! All I can say is that we have been living all our lives in a city and this move was the best thing we have done! If you can buy a farm, do it!
