Grow your woodworking business with "smalls"! Ready for part 2!?! Often times smaller items are looked over by new builders because they are looking for that build that will bring in a nice profit. In this video, I discuss the power of smalls. Ultimately any business comes down to profit margins. I'll give you a few examples of how selling items that anyone can afford can generate crazy sales with very little cost of goods sold!
Sometimes we overthink things when the most profitable items we are looking past. Let's change that.

the author does like to from scratch, shaping and trimming wood from large blocks into fine finished products. ru-vid.comUgkxD-QRFQz730FJEh4f9BYSf-nkIMIC9hL_ as another reviewer mentioned, most projects require a lot of high-dollar equipment that most of us dont have the room or budget for. But, knowing how to do these things, even if we wont be able to practice the full stack project, is still great.

I don't think I've ever subscribed so quickly to a channel. I'm a new mom, and my husband and I live far from family, so I only work on days my husband is off. I've been looking for a creative outlet that would let me also make a little money and THIS just feels right. I've always loved working with my hands and can't wait to make a few of these items.

Focusing on lower-cost higher volume things like this is also going to let you greatly expand your market. The amount of people who would want a $1000 piece of furniture are harder to come by than how many people could drop $30 on something they thing is cute.

Matt - your videos have been the inspiration I needed to get back into the shop. Smalls are my jam!! There is something very satisfying to me to see finished product. Coasters, bottle openers, recipe book holders, Christmas card holders, candle holders, etc. and with my own twist are filling up my shelves and starting to go out to customers. I've actually made everything over the last month from scraps and material, including hardware, that I already had in the shop. Also, its great to read the comments that your community of followers post to your videos. I've grabbed some ideas about product and the business in general along the way. #gotwood #dirtywood #usedwood #smallsbutnotsmallwood #peach #choosehappy

Matthew, I love watching your video's. They're very informative and much appreciated. I have been watching for the last 3-4 weeks and have put to use on making a few things and absolutely love it. I am retired (not by choice) and have all the time in the world to experiment and receive inspiration on the things that can be done. We have a lumber mill 3 Mike's from the house that throws out good scrap wood and load up every now and then and use it on many projects. I bought a planner to plan it, I cut down a 100' eastern red cedar tree on our property and have cut many slabs to dabble around with. Many thanks to your video's and informative information!

Good afternoon, Matt. In recent months my home restoration business has taken off again; so I am doing smaller builds in the workshop. My favorite (and most profitable) project is the garden trellis you recently remade the video on. I'm actually using pressure treated fence pickets so my build cost is less than $5! I've sold nearly 200 trellises at $25 each! The best part is that I have a free spot right next to a very busy road in my hometown to set up a sell my items on the weekends!

So you literally work for nothing… 20$ sales -5$ material leaves you 15$ to pick up the material, cut, drill, assemble + take time out of your day to sell them… assuming you do things right you have taxes coming out off your profit as well
@rickmann5227
@rickmann5227 Год назад
@@martin8829 It seems you're missing the idea of mass production. You broke down his profit per item. It doesn't work that way. 1 trip to the store. All materials picked-up(not an extra trip, you go when you NEED to) If you have it on order, it's ready to go when you get there. At the shop is where the real time is saved. Every cut is reproduced quickly , production style. You could cut all the pieces in one shift. For all 200 trellises. A couple more shifts to produce them. That's not much work for $4000 gross profit.
@SheriChase
@SheriChase Год назад
@@cattleNhay The point? As I once told a loan officer when questioned about depositing cash in my bank account when she was saying some nonsense like, "It's illegal to do that." I could not help myself, "Do not say stupid statements. What is illegal is not reporting your income. I also collect cash for my rental properties and deposit that money, too. If someone writes me a bad check, then we are on a cash basis moving forward. Check our Income Tax statements and you will see we Legally paid tax on the cast received. NOT reporting it would have been illegal since we have made money." Who cares if the IRS is reading these posts? They have to pay tax on what they earn and spend as well.

Love your videos, I've made the wood ladders, I used mine with black S hooks and created a planter ladder. I found natural rough trim pieces that still had bark at lowes gave a very rustic feel. I became a widow at the start of the pandemic and I live with chronic pain. I wa ted to make a little money. I found power tool sets at the thrift and ordered a miter box with a saw. For a while I was using a Dollar tree saw. My son raiding my tools, burning my drill out and moving all added up to be discouraging. You've inspired me to create again.
