We have a spray bottle called a Misto. We fill it with our olive oil and pump it up to use as a spray so that we don't need to buy the spray oils. It saves us so much money since the spray oils in the grocery store are more expensive than regular bottles of oil.
Chickpeas are basic food for me. I often make a chickpeas salad with lots of finely chopped garlic, lemon juice and olive oil .Or I Cook them ,drain them then add tomatoes, garlic, herbs or coriander powder. I also add some to a veg stew .I use different spices and the dish doesn’t taste the same
I watch your channel all the time, but sometimes forget to "like".(I'll do better ) Love, love, love all your meal posts. I'm learning lots on how to be frugal with my grocery shopping and meatless meal planning. I love your cheery attitude and how much you enjoy being frugal and your willingness to pass it on to your followers. Thank you..
Strangely enough I made a similar tart for supper last night but added some smoked bacon strips too! It was delicious! I shall try your falafel recipe too! Thank you.
First, thanks for the Falafel recipe! I love cooking with beans, but had never cooked with chickpeas before. I finally bought a pound last week, and was looking for recipes. Second, I have a recipe for cheese strata that my mother in law gave me years ago when my hubs and I were really broke. It's just cheese, stale bread, eggs, butter and milk. It comes out puffy and souffle like. So yummy!
Another great video thank you so much, I make a veggie curry with roasted veg and chick peas, we like leek n potato pie but I will be fry your tart. Thanks for all the hard work you both out into these vlogs……. Take care Love Wendy ♥️💋 Please let the ads run folks and hit that like 2,709 views and only 552 likes x
Hi . Loved both recipes. I love falafel in a wrap with hummus, salad and a chilli sauce. As for chickpeas I make them into a Moroccan salad with cous cous roasted and fresh vegetables sourced with ras al hangout. Will definitely try the tart as a change from a quiche. Thank you
OH MY GOODNESS! When I saw the title of this video I zoomed to watch it. I LOVE falafel but have only made it from a mix. I am so excited to see how easy it is to make from scratch and I already have all those ingredients in my pantry! The pie looks delicious!
now there's something I didn't know, but which makes perfect sense when you think about it - that chick peas are easier to mash when hot! We eat falafels regularly, we have them in pita bread with coleslaw. To make sure my children would at least try them when I first made them, I told them they were 'crabby patties' a la Spongebob Squarepants - was years before they worked out what they actually were , and by then they loved them :)
I make chickpea curry with spinach (frozen out of season) and coconut milk!!! In summer checkpea salade with tomatoes, red oignon, cumin powder, lemon and olive oil, yummy!!Thank you Jane for your recipes
Enjoying your recipes. For the spray oil, you can buy refillable oil spray bottles. Another saving over time as you just fill it with whatever oil you like.
Will definitely be putting these on my list. Look delicious. I like to make a tomato and chickpea stew, tinned toms, Tom purée, onions, garlic, chickpeas, spinach, paprika, cumin and hot chilli powder. Delicious with rice, sour cream and of course grated cheese on! Always have some in the freezer. Good jacket potato topping too.
The further away from where you are burning your wood, the slower you can cook. I warm up my soup slowly on the most right side of the woodburner. The more to the left of the cooking plate I go the warmer the plates is so the quicker it cooks. I love using the woodstove in the winter. Warmth and cooking and backing.
Try using the soaked chickpeas without cooking them. I promise, you will love the falafels and safe on the energy. Just blitz all ingredients in a food processor.
Hello Jane. I love making flat bread which is basically flour and water. I also make hummus with chick peas, garlic and lemon. Your falafels would go great with both of those.
I just had my husband dig up the last of our leeks to come in so I think your tart will be on the menu tomorrow. We can't easily keep them in the garden where I am in Canada as we get too cold over winter so I bring them in and dehydrate them for winter-summer cooking. I've got three 2 litre jars full of them this year!!! Cheesy dishes...You can't beat a good cauliflower cheese casserole. We quite like it as a main dish with a side salad.
I'm going to make your leek tart this weekend, will let you know how it came out, I made a meat pie with 2 small steaks, used hot water pastry, it fed us for 2 dinners and a lunch. Inflation has begun here so we will have to stretch every morsel...I make a game out of how far can I go..lol
Hi Jane and Michael, I get so excited when your videos appear in my feed. Your food always look amazing. I am going to try baking my falafel too, my kids love it, but I dont love the deep frying. Thank you for your videos, it must be hard work. Your videos encourage and inspire, and I just love your company. Lots of love. ⚘
Hello from Oahu Hawaii Jane! I found your channel from Frugal Jo's channel. I see that you are gluten free and prepare a lot of pastries and sauces using alternatives to regular flour. You mentioned using corn masa? Could you show the package one day so I can see what it look like and I can read the ingredients? Thank you. You inspire me to prepare meals at home and not to run out for fast food. We all could really live on a lot less than we think we can.
Terrific video. Going to make the tart on Sunday. Incidentally, around this time of year, I make Simon Hopkinson’s recipe for Parmesan biscuits. They are AMAZING and great as nibbles during the festive season
I'll be making both of these recipes. We love falafel but havent it at home...so we rarely eat it. I've never cooked with leek before and am so happy to do that. Odd isnt it? Every recipe I've cooked of yours has been delicious and thrifty. Thank you for sharing your knowledge Jane!
That tart looks delicious!! I have made falafels before and really enjoy those baked instead of fried. Your salads always look tasty too Jane. Keep these videos coming!Love your channel :)
I love falafels. Haven't made them in years. Time to get back to it. The tart looks scrumptious! Must make that . Thank you for your channel, it is most enjoyable. Blessings to all
Great recipes! When I make falafel I usually fry them so I’ve found that I can get away with not frying the veg separately beforehand, as long as I cut it up small. Thank you for another cheery, helpful video 😊
Both of these meals look sooooo delicious and nutritious!! I have never made falafels, but have always wanted to try. As far as other recipes using chickpeas, I have made a faux chicken salad using chickpeas instead of chicken. It is so yummy!
I don't know if it makes any difference to the algorithm commenting & liking 2 years down the line but i do it anyway, starting to stockpile some of your recipes to try for the coming Winter months, looking forward to falafels as I've never made them before - another great vid Jane & Michael
I used to make falafels all the time. I haven't made them in a while. I will be making them soon. I have whole wheat pita bread in the freezer and dried chickpeas in my pantry. Thanks for the reminder. Love your cooking videos. All your food looks delicious!
Thanks for more fabulous recipes! I have just made the falafels (first times ever!) and plan to make the leek and cheese tart next week. So inspiring x
Thank you Jane! Both recipes look so easy and delicious! Perfect additions to my own frugal kitchen repertoire. I love the tart idea for our Friday family dinners 😀
Leeks are extremely expensive here, a luxury items do you think I could use spring onion instead ? thank you jane for your approach to life in a commonsense way.
I have the Chickpea flour cookbook. It uses chickpea flour (besan) so many ways and has great recipes for falafel and hummus. Thank you so much for sharing your kitchen with us all!
I will definitely try both these recipes. They look delicious. I have just been having a frugal queen binge watch, and passing some of your posts to friends. You can teach much to many Jane!
Yum, Jane! I am going to give these a whirl. I have not had either before, I bake many things but have never mastered pie dough hopefully this will be a turning point. Thank you for a great instructional video. We love cheese at our house but it can be pretty expensive here in Canada but a good homemade macaroni and cheese is a favorite or a slice or two with an apple.
Although I use chickpeas for curry and hummus I have never made Falafel but having watched this video I will be giving them a try.wasn’t sure when I saw the title but having seen you make then I will be having a go. The tart was another thing I was Edgar to see that as it looked and sounded yummy so that’s top of my list to try. Both look very cheep with very few ingredients. You are such a great frugal inspiration to us all. You real seem to be able to create a yummy meal out of very little which is what we all need to learn to do especially at the moment with prices rising week on week.
That tart looks divine and ive never made flafel .coliflour cheese my fave at the mo and dolphinious potatos with lots of garlic i add cheese great video great lady i realy enjoy watching your channel x
New subscriber and enjoying your videos. Both recipes look lovely. The only thing I make with chickpeas is my well liked hummus. Will be trying yours tho.
Just making your falafel recipe!!! Can't wait to taste these ! Also your coleslaw has changed my life ha ha !!! Thanks for the inspirational content. I'm going to try the pastry one day too ❤
Love making felafel. My recipe is very close to yours but I never add an egg. Favorite cheese dish - hmmmm - homemade pizza as it’s quick and simple yet delicious.
Great video. Re oil spray, I know plastic degrades, but I refill my oil spray bottles a few times before recycling. One day, might get one designed for the purpose.
Make cheese tuna corn peas parcels with pastry squares mix all together with cheese sauce add cheese cubes and place on pastry squares fold in half bake in oven 180 for 15_20 mins until golden

Hi just a query have you considered an air fryer I swear by mine you can cook everything from eggs to cakes and everything in between. I’m reasonably new to your channel and I thank you from the bottom of my heart you’ve given mea nudge in the right direction to declutter once again Thank You
