Her baking instructions: Let potatoes bake for 45 min at 325 degrees covered, then remove cover and bake at 425.for 35 min. Then let sit for 10 min after removing from oven. Also squeeze 1/2 lemon each casserole after it sits.
I love lemon potatoes, and as you mentioned the traditional recipe and the way the restaurants serve it is full of oil. I absolutely love your two oil free versions of this recipe. Thank you so much! 💖
This potato lover thanks you for this delicious and easy recipe. I made it even simpler by leaving the skins on (I haven't peeled a potato since the 1970s).
Omg, this is my new favourite vegan channel! Love this recipe and will try it tomorrow!! Also your weekly dinner recipes are very helpful and full of ideas too! Thank you🤗🤗🤗
Nini - I just saw this video shared by Gustavo Tolosa on his Facebook page The Starch Solution! He works with Dr, McDougall! And yesterday I messaged Cathy Fisher of Straight Up Food and told her about your RU-vid channel. She works for Dr. McD too!
This is such a delicious recipe. I like it much better without the oil because the lemon flavor is more pronounced and taste fresher. Thanks for sharing this recipe, I can eat these a few times a week.
That is exactly how I feel about the lemon in this recipe, you can never add to much lemon:) Now you sound like me, wanting to eat this several times a week.
Thanks for the recipe and seeing the whole meal at the end. I am a new vegan and I am always looking for new recipes that really focus on no added oils! I love your videos because you focus on the technique which is very important when not using oils.
Btw: Do you have a recipe for a Vegan Moussaka? This is one of my cousin's favorite recipes & I'd like to make it for us. So many I see online use a lot of oil :(
can I move in? lol. You are such a good mom and i love the way you cook for your family. You have a very beautiful family. I am going to try this very soon.
These turned out superb! I didn’t change anything with your recipe, but I did have to adjust my cooking time... I cooked for an extra 15 minutes. Great dinner!
I have made this twice already this week. Thank you! I'm looking forward to making the dolmades soon. My neighbor has a grape arbor. Do you have an eggplant recipe coming soon? hint...
Hey there Maggie, I am so glad to see you are liking the potatoes! No I do not cook with eggplant. Nobody in the house likes them accept for me:) So they will not eat it if I make it.
I may be wrong but it looks very similar to the Temptations cookware. I don't have that same color, I have a beautiful eggplant color, but you can find it on QVC.
can you make a video of all your vegan ingredients, if you have already have what is it under? love your cooking you make it simple to understand im a beginner :-) thank you
Do you have any no oil pasta salad recipe for summer!? I love pasta salad but the dressings are filled with oil and haven't found a good oil free Italian dressing loved this video though too looks amazing !!
Found your channel today and loved the look of the recipes I've watched so far. Will definitely be making this one as I love potatoes. I'd never have thought of potatoes and lemons as an obvious combination but they look delicious. :-)
Wonderful! I grew up with these too. My mom made them with olive oil of course and chicken ;-) Next I must see your dolmades video! I simply love dolmades :-)
Looks really great - looking forward to make that today - but I am going to do it with real oniens and real garlic ( I do not have the dried version) - Thank you so much for all your great inspirations on oil free vegan cooking style
Hi Nini Girl, Say, are you able to go back in and edit your show notes to include baking temps, times, and the addition of more lemon after baking? Asking because I'd like to make these without needing to rewatch the video every time to capture these needed details. Thanks for the YUMMY easy recipe!
Yum! I can't wait to try this... I am working on converting my husband out of an omnivore life and he will LOVE this recipe! I love your videos :) I have subscribed and have watched so many! I was wondering about this meal. I see that it is (obviously) mainly starch based. I was wondering about protein. I know we as WFPB/HCLF eaters, protein should not be a worry, but I been using Cronometer to track my nutrients. I am waaayyy under on protein. Is this a concern for you? Do you have a meal during the day where you focus on a good source of protein (for your growing kids or for your running/muscle)? Just interested on your take of the whole protein discussion. You seem very comfortable cooking for your family and I am still learning. Thank you!!!
TOTALLY COOKING THIS TO-MORROW !!). And ive made Dolmas a few times. But never vegan and oil free id love your recipe if you can share. Lovely channel and thanks for sharing. 🦋 🌸 🦋
Hi Nini!!! Am glad I found your channel. I am based in Oman but I wanted to get those lemon squeezers which you use. I understand you get it from Sur la table in U.S. l checked it but there on the net they're showing many brands. Can you pls let me know which brand squeezers you are using as I can order n my daughter can bring those since we don't have the delivery in Muscat, Oman. Also, which Nutritional yeast you use n where to get that from? Thanks.
Hi Neelu, OMAN!! That is so cool!! I have a nutritional yeast video all about the yeast I use so check that out in my food library. The squeezer is called AMCO Housesworks. Here is an amazon link that I found with it. Hope that helps and happy cooking! www.amazon.com/Amco-Manual-Citrus-Lemon-Squeezer/dp/B0002V23BG
Hey Nini!!! Can you please tell me once again where you get yr NUTRITIONAL YEAST from ? I remember you told me VITACOST n my daughter got the big ones 624gms which you have been using but now when i am ordering it is coming only 300gms only.
It is a prefect question. It is actually steel. I bought it at my local supermarket. They are everywhere! Any local kitchen supply store should have them. Not sure what country you are in, but if you are in the USA then you can find them at any Sur la Table or Williams & Sonoma. Even Target and I think safeway sells them. There is an orange one that is for .... you guessed it oranges and a green one that is for limes. The yellow one is the middle size and does all. Hope that helps. Thanks for watching!
Hi Nini!!! Can you please write to me the QVC site where you have taken the blue cookware from. You sent me once but i had been trying to find the same when I visited U.S this time in May to bring the set of three but cdn't bring it since l cdn't find the site which you told me before. Many Thanks.
Hi Nini!!! Thanks A ton for yr prompt reply(ies). My daughter brought the lemon squeezers n the Danish doe whisk but I forgot to order smoked paprika which we don't get here in Muscat, Oman( the only country to start with a vowel n is near Dubai- U.A.E.). So instead, if I use only paprika- does it make any difference in taste- for your other dishes, I mean not the lemon potatoes. Also, what else can we use instead of aluminium foil to cover lemon potatoes as it is strongly recommended not to use aluminium foil esp when you put hot things in it n also if you heat it. Wish you n your family A WONDERFUL, HAPPY N HEALTHY YEAR AHEAD!!!! With much Love!!!!
You can use any paprika:) Regarding the aluminum foil if the food touches then yes there are some issues. Sometimes you can just cover it with another baking dish similar in size. That seems to work most of the time. Some people put parchment paper and the aluminum foil on top. The dishes I bought off of QVC! They are called Temptations bake-ware. You may be able to have spices shipped to you from the "SpiceGuru.com" I buy most of my spices form there. Best of luck!
@@NiniGirl Thanks again for yr quick reply Nini. First of all, Have a wonderful 2020 to you n yr family!!!! Moreover, just a quick one- Where to get the temptation bake-ware from??? I thought it was from Japan , so I checked with my friend who lives in Tokyo but she told me that these are too expensive there.
Hi Nini, sorry for the long comment(s)/question. I thought I should clarify my question below... I know you eat tofu and beans/legumes; my question is do you have a plan in your head about the days meals. If you have a meal like on this video, do you make sure that one or two other meals focus on higher protein plants? Just curious as I try to meet minimum requirements and better balance my diet. Thanks!
Hi P Abbot, regarding protein..... it is never a concern of mine. I mainly focus on FIBER and Starches:) For 5.5 years not I have stopped worrying about protein. When I plan my meals I make sure my table looks like a rainbow. I try and have a variety of vegetables on the table either steamed or baked. I try and make at least 3 rice based meal a week, 2-3 potato based meals and pasta and some kind of bean soup. Lunches I usually make some kind of hummus but we make it because we like it and not for the protein reason. My kids height is off the charts and their weight is perfect. As long as I am eating a whole foods plant based meal I do not worry about the details. Maybe I should do a video explaining this in more detail. Let me know if you would be interested in that. Thanks for watching my videos, I am glad they are helping:)
Love your channel. Working my way through the recipes. What's your story. How did you come to the starch solution? What has been the impact on your health? Thanks so much! Really appreciate your work in promoting this lifestyle.
I will try and share. I really don't feel like I do a good job on the one on one videos where I just talk and am not cooking of showing you something. I will try and build up the courage to do it.
I bought mine at the super market. I have seen them everywhere. It comes in 3 different sizes orange for oranges, green for limes and yellow for lemons. I have had it for years and years and use it every day. Sur le table has it if you are in the USA. It is steel so it has some weight to it. Do not buy the plastic ones. Hope this helps and thanks for watching:)
A wonderful recipe. Thanks so much! Might I suggest that you use parchment paper under the aluminum foil to avoid contact with the food? Aluminum is so harmful to our health and I hate to see all that potato goodness harmed by the foil. Just an idea.
I plan to try this out tonight. I know this is more of a Greek and vegan recipe, but have you ever used chicken or beef broth instead of water with this recipe? Also, do you have any recommendations for what to do with the lemons after you have squeezed them. It just seems like there would be something to use the squeezed lemons in afterwards. I know a zest can be done with the peel. i have tasted German sandwiches before which had slices of lemon added to the sandwish. Thanks for sharing the recipe and making it so easy to understand.
you could boil your potatoes for about 10-15 min and then bake them as I have in the video just start with the uncovered part. Let me know how they turn out!
the recipe above, is that for 1 batch? equals 4 potatoes in each dish? sorry for the confusion. if I'm making it with 8 potatoes, do I double the spices above?
No it is one dish. 8 potatoes is in each dish. So 8 potatoes for the one with out the tomato sauce and 8 potatoes with the tomato sauce. You do not double the spices unless you are making both dishes separately. Hope this helps?...
+Nini Girl Ⓥ Great! again, sorry for the confusion 😕 can't wait to make this. I love anything with lemon and when your on a low salt diet, lemon is the key 😀 can't wait to make this!
