This video can be applied to any other camera but I did make this specific to the Osmo Pocket. Reducing grain in your footage can help you get "professional" looking videos.
These tips will help you think about the next time you shoot with any camera under low light situations.
I hope this video helps you create amazing content.

I've found that, while there MAY be more grain in D-Cine for any specific ISO setting, because of the better dynamic range, you can shoot with a lower ISO in D-Cine for any given situation, so they cancel each other out.

I just bought the DJi osmo pocket to team up with my autel evo. I need a zoom cam, too. Probably the FZ300 I'll grab up this month. If I'm ever shooting inside, studio lighting is always used. It's a necessity in my opinion. Outside, once that sun goes into its full setting and I lose the natural lighting, I wrap it up and shut it down. I also don't film outside on gloomy, darkish, cloudy days. That's just me 🤪🤷‍♂️

Great visualisation, or "audiolisation" lol (i think auralisation is the right word), of ISO. Also thanks for the advice to use normal picture profile for low-light. This makes sense because D-Cinelike being a logarithmic profile seems primarily intended to capture scenes with very high contrast, whereas low-light scenarios obviously has quite low contrast to begin with. Not sure about this, but it seems the Osmo Pocket is internally bumping up the exposure to match the log profile, that's why there's more noise.
@JasonMorrisphotocinema
@JasonMorrisphotocinema 4 года назад
Thank you for watching. I would agree. I think they've bumped that ISO to help capture more of the shadows. I guess that is kind of what log profiles usually do

Denoise in HSL in Premiere doesnt remove Noise on the footage overall its to denoise the HSL selection only.... Try SGrain remove by Sapphire for a GPU accelerated noise cleaner which is great for Chroma noise without desharpening the footage. Theres no reason why you cant go 360@ shutter ie FPS = 25 and shutter = 25... blur is good.

I also noticed that the noise in auto is much less (but that is what one should expect). But dark areas are also much darker in auto than in d-cinelike. So less noise definitely means much less detail (dynamic range). I also noticed that in d-cinelike, though one preserves more details in the shadows, it comes with a weird color shift (shadows becoming violet). Do you also have this effect?
@JasonMorrisphotocinema
@JasonMorrisphotocinema 4 года назад
Thank you for watching. Yes, it does capture more details in the shadows as I believe they increase the internal gain to get more info in the image through the shadows. There definitely is a colour shift. I tried matching the colours in post with reds and just could not match. It seems they have also added some digital sharpening in D-Cinelike

Oh, also, 24 and 12 mp sensors of the same size have the same overall sensor area, and as such theoretically the same amount of noise. Individual pixels of the 24 mp picture are smaller and thus noisier, but if the resolution is reduced to 12 megapixels in post production, each resulting pixel is an average of multiple original pixels - this averaging reduces noise. The resulting 24 > 12 mp image should be comparable to 12 mp camera's image.
@JasonMorrisphotocinema
@JasonMorrisphotocinema 4 года назад
that's not what sony claims. They claim the A7sii gathers more light with better SNR ratio by having the lower 12MP full frame sensor

25fps should be the lowest. you have to film in a higher frame rate to have the ability to slow it down. film in 50fps and slow it down by 50% or even 100fps and slow it down by 25% you will get smooth slow motion providing shutter speed is also double the frame rate

I would go 4k 60fps with shutter at 1/120th. You will get nice slow motion with the leaves flicking up and also have that juicy 4k quality

HI Jason, this is a well done video with useful technical data. I have used a technique with footage shot on my Osmo Pocket under lower light conditions where the grain in the shadows is unacceptable of tweaking the gamma curve to darken the shadows and fiddling with the brightness to compensate. Usually some adjustments in saturation as well. To match with my Sony AX 700, I shoot 4k@30 fps and while the 60 fps in sunlight looks good, not may devices can play it well. Low light footage with the Osmo Pocket is never what you would call "good" but you can get it as acceptable if you tweak it.
