I was almost not going to include the shortcuts / menus but glad I did! I’ll keep doing that for future videos as well! Selfie mode is great for blogging with the p2! Thanks for your feedback and watching!
Thank you for this video! I recently got a DJI Pocket 2 and am loving the camera. This video was very helpful as I learned a few things that I did not previously see. Specifically, changing the on-screen scrollbar from zoom to tilt is very handy!
Thank you that was a great tips summary. The ISO tip is similar to all digital cameras but some may not be aware of 'noise', so it's good to point it out. It is a steep learning curve for me who has never had the Pocket '1' . So many "scroll this way, that way, tap(single ,double, triple to take me down another rabbit hole it seems!)" and I've been too chicken until now to go 'Pro' although with my DSLR Nikons in the past I always went manual if I had the luxury of time to think about the shot. One thing is for sure, the gimbal has immediately improved the smoothness of my footage compared to my old (but superb still and tough as old boots!)Sony Handycam with its x32 zoom. Thanks for great tips. I will go through this video again several times (with the camera in my hand) and have subscribed to see more useful stuff well presented.
Thank you for the kind words, Terry! There are a lot of different settings on the back of the camera, but using your phone as a screen with the DJI Mimo app makes this significantly easier! Much more screen real estate and you dont have to remember all of the swipes and gestures. Pro mode is just like any other camera out there with manual settings. This is a great camera to use and play around with since adjusting the settings on the screen will immediately result in the picture changing. Unlike on a DSLR or other camera where you have to shoot, adjust, shoot, adjust, flip between the shots to see what changed, and repeat. Glad you found your way to my video and hope you enjoy shooting with your new camera! Thanks again for the kind words and watching (and subscribing!)
@@keith-knittel Glad to subscribe, Keith. And the first accessory I bought was the Pgytech (?) holder for iPhone and Pocket2 for the advantages you state. I won't take the rig out on hikes but the solo camera performed well on my last video, first time using it for real. I bravely used the bluetoothed microphone too which worked easier than I expected. I have a 'Lav' mic so I will experiment and try plugging it into it. Someone actually commented that he guessed I had used a gimbal for my video!
"If you a part of 5%, thank you so much!" We should thank you! You're making amazing and unique content that others don't make. To the not-subscribers, please don't hesitate to subscribe to this channel, it's free but worth like you are buying a photo/videography lesson.
Hei! DJI Pocket 2 Newbie here! our video was incredibly helpful! Concise and straight to the point, with many good tip, like focus firs, then double-tab. Thanks soooo much! Subscribed!
Hello! Does your pocket 2 heat up a lot? I bought mine today and I found it gets way too hot to hold after a while. I was shooting at 1080p 60. It gets way hotter if I connect it to my phone using the usb port. I wonder if that's common or is my pocket 2 defective? 🤔
Some interesting tips, thanks. Consensus on the DJI forum is that there are serious issues with HQ mode which hopefully DJI will address with a firmware update. In particular it uses what some feel is an exessively agressive amount of noise reduction which causes a loss of detail, and there's some evidence of smearing of movement. I'd suggest users make their own tests and draw their own conclusions before deciding which is best. And keep an eye open for firmware updates, which should also fix some of the problems with face tracking, which is less capable on the new model than on the old.
I try to be as objective as possible with these videos but made sure to say that was an "opinionated" tip on that one. Some people just want to film quick social media content which probably wouldn't see any great benefits of BS vs HQ - but for some more professional users filming stock footage for example, that may make more of a difference. Keep in mind that this camera has a variable bitrate as well - so if you're filming very low contrast scenes, your bitrate is going to be lower than a bright contrasty scene with lots of colors, if you try to heavily grade low contrast footage with this camera it's not going to turn out well (I have a video coming out later that mentions this). I haven't experienced any bad smearing in HQ vs battery saver with this camera, can you elaborate on that? I'd like to test that out. Thanks for the great points and watching, Peter!
Thanks! Useful tips! I just bought it to complement my OM4 and Mavic Mini. I followed through your tips with the pocket in my hand and I'm ready to go!
Thank you Keith! I also unboxed a Pocket 2 recently, but just used it as a basic camera... These tips and tricks are really helpful for me, especially as you mentioned, there would be video shakings since it's so light and hard to feel it when we moving around; and better to connect with phone to keep it more stable in hand. Thank you, cheers!
It's a great portable camera to have everywhere with you and to use with good quality results! Freewell may possibly be creating a series of anamorphic filters with built in ND ranges for the Pocket 2, just as they recently did for the Mavic Air 2.
It's nice to always have a stabilized camera with you! Love the small form factor of this camera - that would be awesome! I just learned about their anamorphic filters w/ ND after posting my last video. Thanks for watching and commenting, Alex!
Thank you for this great tutorial Keith. It was very informative and I look forward to using these tips on my next vacation. You gained a follower here, nice work!
If you also have a DSLR/Mirrorless I highly recommend getting a cold shoe adapter and try mounting the pocket to your main camera. It kinda looks like a shotgun mic or something and it is able to just record while you focus on the main camera. Depends on your work flow but there is a lot of potential for what you can do. If you’re main focus is photography you can get useable video as well, Or Take video on both and you get a stabilized “B cam”/ wide shot, while you have a tighter shot on the main camera. Video from the pocket looks great because of the gimbal and doesn’t have to be babysat, and you get the advantage of having the pocket attached to a bigger rig so it doesn’t move as much
Very interesting video, and I see you're almost a neighbor...I kinda wondered when I saw that guy with the Cavs hat. I'm East of you in Mentor. I'm getting my Pocket 2 in a few days and am stoked! Question: when you set your own settings in the PRO mode, do they stay that way after you power the camera off. then on again? Thanks!
Hey there fellow ohioan! I'm sure you know this by now, but the settings stay the same when turning on/off. How are you liking the pocket 2? Sorry for the late reply
I noticed the d-cinelike switching on 4k w/do-it-all today. it was frustrating, thought i was going crazy or had forgotten how to use it. Thanks for the clarity! :)
Very frustrating indeed! Especially since I love using the do it all handle when filming. I hope dji updates this with a firmware update to unlock this. It feels like a bug since it’s only with the handle that it can’t record d-cinelike. Thanks for the kind words!
@@keith-knittel Yeah, a bug or even a feature that slipped for the initial release. My hope as well on the firmware. Since this is still relatively new I would expect some more firmware updates over the next while. I've only seen one so far since I've owned this, and that was about 3 weeks ago.
The stabilization is awesome on the pocket 2, but the durability of action cameras is nice if the shoot requires something more durable. Either way, thanks for watching, jimmy!
It would be great if you talked a bit slower, I guess I can tweak the speed in the player - doh! So much useful information! I feel I need an explanation of the chart though.. perhaps if you did a couple of examples.. “if you choose ____ and you are editing in post then ____ unless you want ____ then set it to ___” anyway great video! Thanks!
Sir I am new to Video filming and my first choice was pocket 2 then I got to know about the Insta 360 x 3 and I fell in love with it. I am debating which one to buy as my first camera. I am om with editing.. What is your thoughts?
I am not a camera buff but I just picked this up and wow, this is overload. Question, when reviewing my videos, can the unit produce sound? I didn't get the accessories yet. Also the unit seems to get very hot when plugged into computer or charger? I probably does more than I need. I am a realtor and I do simple you tube talking head and property walkthroughs. In many ways I was hoping this would be better than my phone but it seems much more complicated? Screen is so small. I guess I am used to using my phone and easily checking the video quality before I leave my location. Seems harder here with no sound?
Hey there Michael, the pocket 2 does record audio. You can plug your phone into the pocket 2 and use the Mimo app to see the feed of the camera in the phone and the camera settings.
Thank you you are life saver! hey ... you have awesome golden voice ! I am very disappointed with Pocket 2 ! hoping your this video can give new life of my little pocket 2 ! thanks again
Hope to breath new life into your Pocket 2 for you! It's a great little camera - it does have it's limitations but for a camera of it's size it does a pretty great job in my opinion! Thanks for the kind words and watching!
Just watched this video and subscribed immediately. Thank you! I just bought the Pocket 2 to replace my Osmo Mobile 2/iPhone 12 Pro as I just wasn't getting consistently smooth video for my projects. I produce a lot of video tours for residential and healthcare related real estate, much of it inside. Was wondering what recommendations you might have for settings for slow, smooth virtual tour movement. Thanks again!
Hey there Steve, the pocket 2 is great for that, especially since it’s lens is a little wider. The gimbal also helps! I’d choose a slow follow mode and lock the tilt and roll axis. (Pan follow) to keep a level horizon. Walk slow and steady! Thanks for watching and subscribing!
@@sanderson0664 Depends on what I'm shooting. If I'm going to slow the footage down, 60. If I'm going for real-time footage, then 24. Depends on your situation! Great question
@@keith-knittel well I have a Canon m50 which I make my RU-vid vids on (want to update to the Sony A7C) but I want a small little pocket cam for vlogging and travelling with
extremely excited to get this camera. it’s very convenient and not too bulky (even with attachments) for people who want to vlog/record without feeling like lugging around big cameras & equipment.
@@keith-knittel it was YOUR channel a few weeks ago that made me subscribe - episode setting up the DJI RS2 properly, & yes I really like the thorough & concise content. Don’t give up. Stay with it. The content community needs you.
Pro Mode makes sense for a modern camera. It assumes that if you know how to manually adjust the advanced settings of this tech, you must know more like a pro, vs auto for consumer users.
Is it possible to use 2 lav mics when using this camera? One connected to the bluetooth microphone and the other connected to the camera! On our channel, my wife & I booth talk during filming, but we're not always standing close to each other. Enjoyed your video. Thanks for sharing.
Great Video! Very valuable information! I was apparently not aware that High Quality mode had limitations for which FPS mode could be used. Has that changed? Which will offer better quality, Battery Saver Mode Full HD 60p, or High Quality Mode Full HD 30p? I will hopefully eventually get the Creator’s combo. I thought I will shoot Travel Vlogs (mostly) in Full HD 60p, but the issue is that it’s only apparently available in Battery Save mode. What would You suggest? Thank You. Hope You are Safe and Well.
Hi Keith, I'm in Thailand and get a lot of noise on my daytime shoots, is it a faulty camera? as I see great quality video on RU-vid and was the reason I bought it tbh. I use the auto mode. Thanks Icecy :)
If you’re getting a noisy image during the day in auto mode, try manual settings and keep the iso at 100. If it’s still noisy then the camera might be defective. Definitely should be a clean image
@@keith-knittel Thanks Keith for replying, can you take a look at this private clip off the channel and let me know what you think pls? It may be over exposed too as was on Auto. Thanks Icecy :) ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-8OZq2eGjFwk.html
@@ThaiMyStyle Hey there, checked out that clip, and that's a really difficult shot for any camera. It looks like your filming in the shade during a sunny day, so your auto settings could be trying to increase the exposure in the shade making the sunny spots in the background overexposed - and if your camera tries to expose for a sunny spot, the shaded areas will become really dark. Using manual settings for situations like this will allow you to control how you want your camera exposed. Since your camera needs to brighten up the shaded spots, auto settings are probably raising the ISO and making your image very noisy in the shade, but it would clean up the image on auto if you exposed for the sunny spots since it wouldn't need to raise the ISO at all. It might be more effort to use the manual settings, but keeping the ISO as low as possible will give you the cleanest image. Sorry for the rant! Hoped that helps
Thanks man! Loved Saosin back in the day (and still do!). Checked out your stealth camping element video, the pocket 2 is small / stealthy. I'm sure you'll shoot some cool stuff with the P2! Good luck and have fun!
@@keith-knittel Woah thanks checking out our channel. We are very small but I want to improve my skills and a film maker. It means alot hearing some encouraging words from you thank you. I have big respect for you and all the help you give us with your videos 🙏💯
Depending on what you're going to be using these cameras for, will help you pick which on you want to get. If you film a lot of action sports, I'd check out an action camera - if you film more everyday stuff, I'd look into the Pocket 2. The obvious difference is the mechanical gimbal on the Pocket 2 and the ability to move the camera. What will you be using this camera for? Thanks for subscribing and commenting!
Thanks for an awesome video. I just purchased this camera to film footage of my son playing his baseball games and generating highlights. I wanted something I can put on a tripod and let it focus on him. Did I make a good choice? Lol
The only thing I'd watch out for is being too far away. The lens is pretty wide, and to get the best quality you'll want to be pretty close. If you zoom and try to use activetrack to track your kid it could work, but the tracking will be finicky if there are tons of kids on screen at once passing in front of the camera. Could lose the tracking point. Let me know how it works out for you! Thanks for watching, Daniel!
Great review&tips ! Thanks a lot I’m going to buy this Dji pocket 2. Do i have to but smartphone clip(holder)? Or it’s ok itself? And what’s the difference between connecting by wifi and connecting directly?
You can attach it to your phone without the need for any adapters or holders, but I’d really recommend picking up a phone and pocket holder to keep the tension off of your phones port that connects the pocket. If you’d like to use the camera remotely, like for time lapses and motion lapses, you’ll have to pick up the do-it-all handle. Thanks for watching and congrats on your new camera!
Well captured information 👌 In video at 4:00, I saw Rode Ext mic. How to connect ext mic? Can I connect my Rode NT USB Mini microphone for live cover recording? Is there any microusb or C type port available to connect external mic?
I was blessed to pick up a Pocket 2 Creator Pack brand new for $80! It still has the plastic on the lens and other pieces. I’m torn between selling & using. I mainly capture car show cars and moving trains with a GoPro black 7 & my iPhone 13 Pro Max. Will I get better images out of the Pocket-2 or the GoPro 7? Thanks. I hesitate to pull the packing plastic off because then it’s no longer “New” for resale.
Where in the WORLD did you pick up the pocket 2 creator pack brand new for $80? Thats a fantastic find! The pocket 2 vs gopro 7 all comes down to how you use the camera. Do you find yourself setting the camera down and using active track to follow you? Or doing walk and talks? or Motion lapses with the Pocket 2? Or do you want to mount the camera to the side of a car and rip down the road? The GoPro will be better for that. Either way, fantastic price!
Great video, useful, concise and straightforward. IMO, only Content Creators are distracted by the bulky transmitter. BTW, does the Tansmitter have a Gain Adjustment like the Rode Wireless Go?
