For my upcoming major project, I'm looking for a very low power consumption voltmeter that I could leave on for 24/7 display and not put an appreciable drain on the battery. I think this unit is the best I can find. With the backlight on, it pulls 2.88mA, and with the backlight off, it only uses 1.30mA. It also has a sleep function that when enabled, it only consumes 0.01mA while sleeping. It's good for lead acid, lithium ion and lithium iron phosphate packs.

Just wanted to say thanks for making this video. I installed one of these in my 48v golf cart and it constantly read 100%. I followed your instructions, switched it from P01 to P04 and now I’m in business. You rock! 🤙🏼

Thank you for the tutorial. It was a little confusing wether to power down, or disconnect completely. You save me some trial and error with this video. Much appreciated. 👍🍻 P.S. the trick with activating the battery select function and then moving to the S functions was invaluable. My directions had no reference at all to that procedure and when I tried to set it without 'waking it up first' , nothing was happening and I had to rewatch your instructions. Great job! Thanks again. 👏

I purchased this same meter thinking it was a battery gauge!! I hooked it up to my kayak and when the 12v battery drained, the meter said 98% full!! I guess I bought the wrong thing!! Great video btw!

I plugged this voltmeter directly into the bike's battery charger input and it works. But I believe this voltmeter can also be directly connected to the negative and positive poles of the battery. For the rest, you must select for example, type L for Li-on battery, or F for LiFe-Po battery; then, the number of series of cells as shown in the video, knowing that the number of series and parallel is generally indicated on Li-on batteries and LiFe-Po battery; like for example : 7S - 15P = 7 series and 15 parallels.

The reads may be slow because there is a Kalman Filter. Which would take a few readings to stabilize.

Great info! I have a blue display unit with the connector straight out the back and no instructions. You turned junk into gold. Mine has values 1-17 so I am guessing with the low voltage cutoff that 2 would be as low as you can go for the L and F settings. I was thinking that for the P setting each number was a (2 Volt) cell like the L and F settings but now it makes sense that each number is an increment of 12 Volts. The specs show 6V-63V so the upper numbers would not work either. It was probably easier to make everything 1-17 instead of using the actual range of each battery type. Thanks for sharing!

This is a great video to help with my application. As I understand, both wires out of meter can be directly connected to two 12 volt batteries that are in series. For me to make the connection, I need the wires to be feed into an XLR connector that can plug into the charging port for the batteries. Is there any simple way to make that connection? Direct connection or some adapter to get me to the meters wires? Can you make any recommendations?

I'm surprised it uses 1.3mA without the backlight. I was expecting about 1/100th of that. Maybe there is an open source project here.
@madelectronengineering
@madelectronengineering 7 лет назад
The display takes next to nothing to keep powered, most likely 1mA of the total 1.3mA is just keeping the two chips powered and working. That's still very low overall.

Need to clarify one thing but Thanks! since no instructions came with the meter I was tickled to find your video! When setting the meter to lithium the number you set next is how many cells are in the battery. I found it is usually 4 x 3.7v to make up the 12v. So if you have 2-12v lithium batteries in parallel you set it to 8 cells not 2. I think you mentioned cells but I was thinking batteries and set it for 2 but got false reading. Thanks again.

I have "one button" version of this voltmeter, so to set it up, I need to get into battery pack to press the button on the PCB. Nevertheless, I set it up for my 14S Li-Ion e-bike battery pack and it shows around %30 for about 50V (not exact numbers but percentage seems too low). I'm sure I set the "L" letter, not P or any other. But the lithium ion discharge graphs I found shows this voltage is about 50% charge. I suppose one of the settings change the current "algorithm" for calculating percentage, but as I cannot fiddle with easily, I cannot test it. If anyone knows about this, any information is appreciated.

Nice video, I was really looking forward for instruction manual, as mine didnt have any. Well.. I calculated.. and if it draws these 1.3mA.. then that means it will still take about 1ah over being powered for 32 days.. So, if battery is smaller, it might draw significant amount if left for more than 3 months.. Though user should probably never leave the meter on for such long time and not check up on battery in between.
@ranger178
@ranger178 11 месяцев назад
these cheap meters are not really accurate enough for lithium ion the whole range is about .3 volts from full to empty they need at least hundredths of a volt. I tried two of these meters and they read 2 tenths difference between them and way off from an accurate digital multimeter.

Great video. Now could someone pleaaaase, show how or where in the battery you connect the negative and the positive wires in an Electric Bicycle. I live in the Toronto area, and I had called so many places that deal with batteries, mopeds, Ebikes, etc, but NOBODY wants to install this simple device. Most are just sellers or just don't care for Ebike services. My battery is a 48V 13AH Li-ion Hairon Ebike battery- 65 battery cells. Thank you.

Hey man I really like your video and thank you for understanding me how to use this but still I have questions and I what a proper answer I have 4s lithium ion battery and all call are around 3.58 v so can you tell me how to check the capacity of that 4s battery (what setting I have to set ) I have you will reply and thanks again
@solarsynapse
@solarsynapse 5 лет назад
Use L4. Lithium Polymer peaks at 4.20V per cell and Lithium Ion at 4.10V per cell. Nominal is 3.60 and 3.70 respectively. I personally would not let either one go below 3.00V per cell although manufacturers take them down to 2.50V per cell to get more run time and to shorten the life so you will buy more.
