Yeah I'm very curious what this compelling thumbnail was! The one I saw was so ordinary I don't even remember what it was lol. Might've been you standing between the bikes? What was the spicy one??
Backflip save has to be in the top 10 saves ever! The slowmo is priceless. You almost look bored upside down waiting for the right time to kick your legs over. I'm really enjoying the geo analysis and back to back compares. So many of us seldom if ever get to try different trials bikes so its nice to learn about how the differences change the riding. The first time I ever saw a comp trials bike in person was 3 years ago.
Impeccable pecker tap to backward somersault 👌 My apologies for causing so much mechanical anxiety 😅 You’re a shining example of resilience and tenacity! Keep up the fine work 💪 Thoroughly enjoyed this one, great anorak viewing Thalastair
Dude. 10 out of 10 for that dismount. Holy crap. But please tell us you have a check in system with your old lady or your buds while you're out there by yourself. That could have been horrific. Thank God you're so good at gaps your bike can disintegrate underneath you and you still make it. 😬
@@winterwatson6437 I need to upgrade my phone to one with satellite SOS. I'm not much for upgrading but that seems to be something worth having if you like to ride in the middle of no where.
This is all well and good, but could we just have a half an hour b-roll video of the GT... Probably my favourite looking bike I've seen! Well done not breaking your back on the fork snap! People have died from less serious situations than that!! You really know how to fall off gracefully. A true skill!
Even if I was able to stop time in that moment and think about whats the best way to defuse this situation, I would not be able to come up with this great idea and especially with this great execution. 10/10
Even though I knew what was coming, i completely forgot about it during the course of the video so it still really made me jump! God knows what it must have been like for you! There's no way of bracing yourself for that, when you have absolutely no warning that something's about to fail catastrophically! Glad you were able to get away with that one unscathed!
@@Ali_Clarkson well i also worry for you when i see you using old stuff and mostly fork with short steering tube !! keep it safe, sending you positiv vibes from overseas !
With so much leverage with the long stems and forward bars, I'd be tempted to press a piece of solid aluminium into the steerer tube where the stem clamps and further down past the top bearing. You can drill and tap it to M6 so it also acts as the steerer tube bung for the top cap/bearing pre-loader.
Points Scored: 3,506,333,802,489 Best Leading Role in One of the Gnarliest Trials Crashes Ever caught on video. Best Leading Role in One of the best Walk-Aways from a Trials Crash. Best Supporting Role in Stunt Props.
This took me two days to watch. But it was great, hope you can fet part 2 out. I don't even ride trials, but I can see how that would be hard on forks.
For BMX, lots of street frames now have higher BB for grind clearance. Low bb is stability for old dudes. Some say high bb is like a skateboard. Low bb is more in the bike then on top.
My god my heart skipped a beat as I thought that was it: spine. Take care of yourself. This seemed absolutely terrible but I am relieved you saved it so amazingly. 10/10 for style though, intended or not 😊.
7/10 premonition of fork breakage. 1/10 commitment to keeping hold of the bike (probably for the best). 10/10 clarity and control of the dismount. 10)10 for spectacularly if the dismount. 8/10 overall.
That save was unreal. The slowmo really made it something else. Ps if you want to sell that control I'd be extremely interested. It's a dream frame of mine
I have to admit that you have a beautiful trial spot in an abandoned quarry. We have a very similar, I would say almost the same looking abandoned quarry, not far from our weekend cabin. 👍 I usually go there on foot or by mountain bike, but I plan to take my Jitsie bike there and try to ride a little trial style. 😁 Otherwise, the back flip at 7:10 of the video was very nice. Artistic impression 10/10 definitely!
Bad luck on the forks/headset man, like I said in the last video, when ya going to something old with wild geometries, gotta give ya self some time to practise how it rides, before ya try pushing for high/wide jumps :D
Welcome higher or lower with your host Ali Clarkson definitely shows my age 😂😂. Interesting higher BB will suit some moves and lower BB will suit other marks for the flip 9.5 legs need to be straighter on the landing😂😂 Plus the last clip from Kieron wow
I know this is part of the theme of your channel but I think you should ride one bike more. As you said, muscle memory is key so getting to "know" one bike will definitely help you riding it better. Also I reckon BB height is relative to how you want to ride. To simplify: new type of riding with hook techniques, less rolling and more static moves: high BB, but old school riding, more rolling moves, wheel placement and obviously taps: low BB . Pick your own! But you know all that, don't you? Nice save by the way!
Crash style score: 11/10 because you're human. If you'd be a cat, you'd have some work to do on the "yes, this is exactly how I inteded to to do it" just after crash phase. On a serious note, I'm really glad, that the result of the crash is not that scary as the thumbnail.
As a bmx punk, Mods look so much funner than the double penny farthing bikes. If they went with 451mm rims for 20" that's be perfect and no one would call it a kids bike.
Ali, while I like a high BB, if it can be called that... My FS bike is designed to drop to 0 drop BB under rider weight. My trials bike is a KOXX Red Sky stock at +35. Would take getting used to a +60 or higher drop since I haven't ridden one but think it may be very unusual. Carthy Bars!!
Holy shit i was not expecting that.... Glad you're OK. also,. what ever happened to your custom forks? They still kicking around? Be cool if those made another appearance on a bike at some point. You think one of em would have been good on one of these bikes?
Disc brakes are good, nice and quiet with good modulation and fairly reliable. The issue with comp style trials is that they’re not as precise as a rim brake, even with tight spokes there’s always going to be a little flex and movement and with the wheel being stopped at the hub this movement is magnified by the time it gets to the tyre so even with locked brakes there can be an inch of movement at the tyre…with trials sometimes needing to be millimetre accurate any excess movement can be the difference between making a move and not. Also discs are heavier than rim brakes and more prone to damage, especially when hopping sideways.
Nice backflip! :D But seriously it's not a really good idea to ride alone. You were very lucky, but in a worst case scenerio it's realy suck if there's noone around to ask for help, call the ambulance, etc.
