Welcome to Ultimate Survival Gear! Today, finally I have a Lowa boots review for you guys and these are Lowa Renegade GTX Mid hiking boots.

So, as usual, let's start this Lowa Renegade GTX Mid review with some specs:
All-terrain, GORE-TEX waterproof, breathable hiking boots for day hikes and light backpacking
Climate-control footbed wicks away moisture for comfort
Durable Monowrap frame reduces boot weight
Full-length nylon shank for stability
Rugged Vibram outsole helps maintain grip
So, here is the overall verdict. The built quality feels fantastic. They look great and feel comfortable. They might not be the lightest hiking boots out there, but they are definitely lightweight for their size and everything they offer.
Now Lowa is a very popular brand amongst experienced hikers. It is no surprise that these Lowa Renegade hiking boots made it to the top of the online lists like best hiking boots for men 2020, best backpacking boots, Outdoor Magazine best hiking boots, best waterproof hiking boots for men, best hiking boots 2019, best hiking boots for ankle support and best hiking boots for plantar fasciitis. Wow, an impressive list indeed!

I have been wearing Lowa Renegade daily for over thirty years. the points you raised are very relevant and I share your opinion on your findings. Your analysis is excellent. For the last five years I have noticed a rapid deterioration of the soles which was not the case before. Considering the price I would expect greater longevity.

One of the best boots I have used to climb, I used my renegades to climb Pico de Orizaba 5.686 mts and worked very well!

I just got a pair of this and they are awesome! I wear 10.5 and I ordered 10.5 and they fit perfectly! They don't seem to run smaller to me. This boots are worth every penny. Awesome boots Lowa!

I just purchased a new pair. I had my brown ones for about seven years. Just throw away the standard insoles and replace them. My favourites are from Spenco. Really improves the comfort!

I had to go a half a size smaller when trying them on. But they're extremely comfortable

I also bought them this summer, found them comfortable but narrow and I have narrow feet (was surprised indeed), now for the price I prefer my Salomon Quest 4D GTX, quality wise. But don't get me wrong I love my Renegade but honestly I expected something much better...your review is dead on can't say much more. Good job with your analysis of the boot, you know your stuff!

I feel this boot has decreased in quality. There was a time when it wouldn't even be a question as to whether Lowa was a better quality boot than Salomon but it's not quite that way now. Unlined toe boxes, thin insoles and less durable soles are not great signs for what is still a premium boot.

vibram soles are useless on slippery surfaces. these soles also fall apart if you store them and dont use them.

Which Lowa has a steel or composite toe cap please. I need a pair for security work, so alot of walking involved.

Hmmm, if I remember correctly, their Zephyr tactical boots had the composite toe. Hiking boots don't usually have steel or composite, but check out work and especially tactical/combat stuff.

Thanks for the review! I picked up mine today and I normally wear low rise hicking shoes. My thoughts so far are that they have a fantastic look, the fits is real good. The cushion is on the harder side which is fine. However, the high rise is a pain around my legs. I feel like I am wearing some hand cuffs but that could be that I need to wear them in or that I am not used to high rise boots. I am only on about 2000 steps in the house and hoping that my thoughts on the ankle feel changes. Any thoughts on the ankle feel for anyone else? (Also, they are a bit warm in the house maybe)

What are your thoughts on the Lowa Baldo GTX. It kinda makes up the difference between the Renegade and Camino

Haven't had a chance to test out Baldo yet, but I will add them to my to-do list! From the looks of it, it does appear to be a good crossbreed between the tow!

Salomon quest look like cheap boots. I tried them on at REI, you can clearly see that there 0 effort foe attention to detail. Glue is sticking out around the areas where they glued it, just looks cheaply made. And they want to charge the same like their competition. Lowa on other hand is a much better quality boot imo.

@@edsaban572I don't mean to sound rude but that's simply untrue. I just got a lowa renegade and love em! however Solomons quests are great boots too. Look online you'll see thousands of reviews on how durable they are and not just from outdoor gear review sites. (switchback, outdoor gear lab) but on subreddits like r/ultralight as well.

@@edsaban572 I have them and did not see any of the stuff you wrote on my boots, very good quality, comfortable but made narrow. Love them to death and better quality than my Lowa Renegade GTX, I guess you were not lucky when you pick your boots.

I have a pair of Lowa hiking boots, and last week while hiking in Norway the soles of both boots started to fall off within 15 minutes of each other. At the end the soles were only attached at the tip of the boot. No matter what the cause of the problem, the manufacturer is responsible and ought to replace a faulty product. If they use a material (polyurethane) that is inapropriate for the purpose of hiking once or twice a year, they should not use that material. Period. Do yourself a favour and find a boot producer that does not use PU in their soles.

Midsole falls apart in under 2 years despite light use. Made in Slovakia, Germany, doesn't matter, they're a bad purchase. Shame.

True, I had the same problem and contacted Lowa. They countered the problem by saying that these soles are "only made for soft terrain, so try to avoid hard surfaces". Not really realistic I think...

Ah, rotting out is a different story. That process is called hydrolisis. It is a bacteria in the PU of the midsole that causes it to deteriorate.
