How much do substitutes get paid? How much is that per hour? Now how does that pay compared to the local Walmart and McDonalds? If you up the requirements for substitute teaching, like requiring a two year or four year degree, you then need to change what jobs you are comparing the pay to as well. THe reporter is correct, if the school culture allows students to get away with bad behavior with subs, what subs that are out there will simple refuse to take subbing jobs in that school. Who wants to put up with bad behavior for as little pay as they are getting? Please remember when a school is talking about subs, it is not just talking about certified teachers. School need subs for the kitchen staff, paras, janitors, bus drivers etc. as well.
