If you think plants are expensive in USA , you would have a coronary in Australia, the prices here are abhorrent and most come without the ceramic pot.
Melissa the splash cacti that you got grows well. I have one but I took off the thorns so I don't get poked. And they don't seem to grow back. Have a blessed week.
I saw a Jacklyn at Walmart a year ago and passed it up and haven’t seen one since. I do want one. Watching for that golden philodendron to plant with my ring of fire too.
I wish my bigbox store had that much... In 3 stores we don't have the quarter of those... 😅 Altho I found the beautiful pink Calathea few week ago and we got a batch of Jaclyn too! I also found in a plant shop the Alocasia Reginae, I love it! Really cool plant! We hot variegated marantas everywhere tho 😅 they're all in Canada 😂😅
I work at a school and got a couple of cuttings from the Science/stem lab 🤣. Didn’t know they were hard to find. Prop in water but took way longer that the regular photos, they’re doing fine now. But not big enough to prop again. Is a slow grower and the leaves burn easily. It’s pretty though.
It disgusts me to see these plants at these stores. I even feel the same at some nurseries. I will never understand why they don’t hire people who actually care about the plants. That Alocasia Regina was cool I can’t believe you didn’t get it. It reminded me of the Silver Dragon leaves somewhat.
The texture was soo unique it felt leathery in a way. I thought it was pretty cool and I was tempted but decided I didn't need it as I left lol. I know the sad plants are hard to see 😢🫶
reallybigplant channel she made a video about the pineapple plant. Also did a taste test when they’re ripe. I had bad experience buying plants in those big plant stores in my hardware store where they have a section that had plants. Always ended up having pests. Lithops i always killed them from over watering. I like having big plants in the living room areas they really make a statement. When i have a house definitely just have big plants in the sitting room and kitchen and hallway areas. Just pops of greens that matches in my living spaces.
ughh I know I probably should have gotten it but maybe at a later time. I was looking at them as I was leaving and decided I didn't need it haha. I have so many alos now 😬
I purchased an alocasia Jaclyn at my Lowe’s, from their discount shelf, three months ago. It died within two weeks of bringing it home. I never watered it, and the soil was still wet from the store. I let it dry out, hoping to let it rest, then restore it. A week ago, I decided to replant the bulb, and look for corms in the pot. (There were none.) The actual bulb itself was mushy, and disintegrated when lightly pressed. So, the fact that the alocasia you saw was wobbly in its pot probably meant it was suffering from root rot. Be glad you didn’t purchase it! Thanks for your video. I think I’ll run to my Lowe’s this afternoon. ❤
I wish I could send you a pic of my Alocasia Reginae Silver because those leaves do get quite big. Mine's in Pon and I just had to size up the pot. It grew really quickly.
I get so frustrated in some stores that give the generic names of the plants, like "alocasia" "perennial" "foliage". I'm a plant newbie, so I'm not familiar with a lot of the names. I've passed over a few wish list plants because they didn't have the specific plant name.
I love these shopping videos! I would really love to see some local shops featured soon. Especially in the summertime lots of our local shops slow down in business and would greatly appreciate the visit. Some of my personal favorites are STUMP (Bull St.) and Cast & Grey Botanical (Waters Ave.) , they not only have great attention to detail in their plant selection, but also do lots of events with the community and feature local artists and even workshops with featured guest. I can already imagine a Pon 101 workshop with your expertise. 💚✨
I've filmed at herb creek before but I was really nervous and ended up doing a voice over and went around the store with my phone hoping no one was watching me. I have bad social anxiety so it's hard for me to film in public or even just being in public. I know I seem relaxed in these videos but it's taken a while to get here. I feel more comfortable in big box stores because I can usually film when no one is around and if someone comes near me then I have to stop filming. I just cut all that out :)
I work for Lowe’s and take care of all the plants., houseplants and garden canter plants. Sadly people dig around in the soil of all the alocasias to try and find corms. They ruin the mother plant just like that poor Jacklyn. It’s disappointing that people feel it’s okay to do that.
Did you have a FB page cause it had your picture as a profile photo, but when I look at the contents, it looks different. No cats at all, and different plant backgrounds 😅
I planted a pineapple top that i bought from the kroger grocery store an its growin sooo good its fun! Once you cut or pull the top off peel back the leavs to un cover the base an let dry then plant or put in water it will have roots in just a few days you can also see wher the roots will come from once you peel back some of the bottem leavs
I love that you love all types of plants 💚 I have mostly aroids but when i go shopping i touch and love on them all. Ha! I regret the alocasia being left behind for you
My zz plant when I first got it was that size of the one you showed.i saw one at a garden center that was in a huge pot and easily stood 15 feet tall. It was under shade cloth. It was massive.
A nice variety of plants coming in now that its your growing season! Just wondering what happened to your Moonshine, cos you said you used to have one 🤔And the massive ZZ you saw, I'm gobsmacked that my ZZ Raven has just put out a massive stalk like that one....and it's autumn here!!! It obviously loves where I have it as well as the GT Foliage Focus I give it haha. Also I feel you about the Alocasia, I'm torn every time I go to a plant place and see one I don't have and know I don't have room for it or the time to care for yet another plant...i hear you sister!!!! Thanks for another nice plant trip with the lovely Melissa 🌸🌟💕
Hey, Malissa. I was thinking about one of your videos about fertilizing your plants. You had one fertilizer that you liked but it was expensive and you would go through it too fast. You are not a plant owner anymore, you are a grower. Fertilizer for growers is different. Look for packages for growers. We use one in our plant shop that can feed acres if plants and farms and we only use on teaspoon in more than ten litter of water. It is made from fish and seegrass and chicken feather and more, it helps plants to acclimate easier. It is called Phytomax. If you know a greenhouse close to you ask them if they can make a bottle for you to buy from them so you can try it before buying. Because it lasts ages to go through it and it is pricy, but in a ling run it is cost affective. You can use that and for videos gice tips about that and how house plant owners can use normal fertilizer that have smaller bottles. I hope this helps, wish you the best hon.❤🍀
Love your videos, Melissa. You got me remotivated totake better care of my plants. That aside, how about adding a bit of colour to your beautiful collection?
Walmart called that golden philodendron a Philodendron Golden Crocodile. Bought it,almost dead, and now 4 new leaves at same time. In pon and self watering.
I went to Lowe’s yesterday. They had beautiful plants but nothing new. I might go to home depot today to see if I find any goodies. I’m on the hunt for a maranta. My mom saw yours and wants one now ☺️☺️
last couple of times I went lowes they have some thrips on their plants mostly syngoniums so becaruful and double check plants for pest that is why I end up having thrips on my collection couple of months ago thanks to lowes 😔
I see them occasionally! This one had a ton of marble queens. One time I saw a huge basket and I didn't get it and had immediate regrets. I went back and it was gone 😩
I have the Bisma/platinum at home and this was definitely different! It had the coolest leathery texture in a way but I have no idea if it's a reginae or not. Costa has it on their website as one.
@@plantsbymelissa yay! definitely looking forward to that video! I love watching your videos as it is 💞💞💞 and i can't keep fighting the alocasia craze 🥰
I have one or I would have bought it to try and save it 😢 All I do is stick them in stratum to rehab and they usually bounce back then I would move it to pon.
@@plantsbymelissa yes, but because Jacklyn is finicky I’d have loved to see it. Besides you could have had 2 or more plants together! But it’s okay. It was just an idea. I’m only low key mad 😂 sorry
Beware of big box store plants. I bought a monstera adansonii at Home Depot and the soil was FULL of centipedes! I had to dump the soil, wash the roots and repot. It lost several leaves before it finally settled in.
centipedes don't harm houseplants because they don't eat vegetation. In fact, they can be beneficial to plants because they eat insects and other small creatures in the soil that could damage plants, such as fungus gnats.
Why does Southern California (or San Diego County, specifically) suck so bad with our plant selection, compared to everywhere else…? I’m not counting LA or OC btw, as they have everything, all the time. Lol. I could go to Home Depot and Lowe’s and it’d be hit or miss with their selection. It could be mind-blowing, but it could also be random as hell. Last time I went to Home Depot was DECENT, a lot of the same old stuff though. I got a massive ‘Cebu Blue’ for $19.98 which is good. Everything else was just sorta…? 🫤 Then, at the front entrance, there was this huge, random, $200 Monstera ‘Thai Constellation’ just sitting there in the walkway. Nobody snatched it up.
