Heidi, I watched this 2 full times and then went in the shop and installed this kit from start to finish in 25 minutes thanks to you. I didn't even have to use the instructions. Thanks so much!
just finished installing this kit. took about an hour and after watching your video a couple times I didn't even have to look at the directions!! Thanks Heidi!!! you rock girl!!!!
How is the kit working for you? Want to get it for my 2014 Fatboy but not sure how well it performs. I guess the best way to ask is how different does the bike feel? Any performance issues? Will I bottom out with a passenger on the back?
OK....I DID IT!! WOW I did the 2" lower kit. Perfect!! Thanks for the video. I did it in 29:43, that's my story and I'm sticking to it, lol. BE AWARE for those of us that do not have a lift like in the video... make sure your front tire is on a ramp or something. I did not and my jack got stuck under my bike... which was now 2" lower. Jacked my bike back up and had to build a ramp under my front tire to get the bike off the ramp. Thanks again Heidi!!
This was really cool, Ma'am! This answered all of my questions, and looks easy enough. I thought, for a minute, that you were drinking a beer, but realized that it was some type of coke product (maybe). That would have topped it off nicely, though. Working on your own Harley, drinking a beer, and hanging out with your friends... But hey, this was cool anyway. I'm really happy to see a woman getting out there and working on her own bike. I wish that more women would try it, and then they would realize that it's not so hard, and they would learn something, and be more confident in their own skills. This was awesome! Take care.
Heidi, Thanks a lot, also to your camera man. You encouraged me to install the Lowering Kit on my Breakout CVO '14 (even that the H-D's guys said it can't be done). Bob from softailloweringkit.com should split a commission with you! You are the GIRL!!
+Fabian Rangel .. Thanks for your nice comments! Your right about E.J. the "camera man".. he did a great job! Enjoy your ride and reaching the ground..lol
Ordered kit, installed and lowered the rear of my 2011 Fatboy 2", Great with just me, a little odd feeling with my wife and me on the bike, seems like it changed the steering dynamics, but I do LOVE the way it's stance is now. Like a completely different ride.
Great video Heidi , I got my lowering kit @ Christmas, my 18 year old son just installed in about 45 minutes, we used a car jack, was a little fiddly as the ground clearance wasn't the best, I used the 1 1/2 inch spacers, bike looks killer, cheers for the great tutorial :)
I had one installed on my 01 Heritage and I love it. Sits right and rides great with no bottoming out. Could have easily did it myself but I didn't have the jacks or the place to do it. I'm 5' 8" and 185 lbs. By the way a great video.
You're right... took 3 guys..lol ..Thanks for the good comments. I did the before and after on the still shot you had to click on to get to my video... is that what you're talking about?
So basically you can back the shocks out and put washers in there!..no seriously I wish I would have got this kit instead of the one i did..I had to take shocks off and apart for the same result.
Helpful hint: On the space, start one side with the screw just a thread or two and it will slide over the shock, not a lot of room when on a floor jack to work, riders get looks great.
Good job! Good to see another enthusiast working on their bike. Tye only thing that makes harleys prohibitive to customize is the labor. It's not rocket science
Cool!, Great video, Heidi!, I'm gonna use the 2" kit also on my 2003 Heritage Softail, looks easy schmeazy! lol...Thx again for the info where to buy them, be safe on the road! ;o)
got mine on and read the part that says don't over tighten. compared to what? 5 ft#,20 ft#? i know the bushings compress. should you tighten them till they copress or tighter?
Just saw the video. Great job. Have been wanting to lower my 2014 Fatboy but have been waiting and watching. How has that kit been working for you? Is there any difference felt as far as performance? Any rattling? Maybe the ride isn't as smooth? What about the kickstand? Did you have to replace it with a shorter one? Any problem with bottoming out? A 2" drop would be perfect for me but am afraid with the wife on the back if we go over a good bump in the road my rear tire may slam into the fender.
I'm so inspired by this! I am currently looking at a 94 fatboy but am concerned of whether this is too much bike for me and if it's possible for someone my size to handle a bike like this. I too am 5' 2" but am small framed.
I have ordered a kit and have not received it. I have sent messages and tried emails to Blazing Bikes Robert Abney . Is this a scam if so I am being ripped off for what I have paid.
around 4,000 miles since lowering it and I could not be happier or more confident when moving her around, like parking and in tight places... I can reach the ground flat footed. I also put Progressive lower monotubes (gas shocks) on the front when we chromed out the front end... wow, what a difference that made too. She turns and handles like a dream.... this is my 6th bike in about 30 years and by far the easiest one to handle. Thanks for the good comments...
Becomes painful to watch towards the end. Dexterity isn't at its best I guess, but awkwardness is! Would have tried to reach the other shock from the other side, simple as that, but, whatever!
These pull-down kits are terrible. They preload your shock, and your bike will ride like crap. If you're going to do it, you do it right! You purchase a adjustable lowering shock. For example, Progressive makes a great one for the soft tails.
Woulda taken you 15min. if you'd have followed your righty tighty rule?(It happens) Still a good video and nice to see a chic wrench! Good job girl You too 3guys
