Its never good to have high expectations from a psychological stand point. You'll set yourself up for disappointment, its always better to have low expectations, then you'll definitely not be dissapointed.

We don't need 3 protagonists, and RDR2 already proved that. I'd much prefer a deeper connection with 1or 2 max

They spent 2 billion dollars to make GTA 6. My expectations are in the stratosphere.

Everybody's excited about the graphics, features, gameplay and story. Then theres me whose most excited to see what small details they add to the game. The amount of small detail in Rdr2 is what blew me away the most. I never seen that amount of detail in a game before. Im like "how tf did they think of all this".

I know that rockstar will make a hit, best game of all time (until gta 7). But some days I have this feeling that when gta 6 drops there are going to be videos like “GTA 6 was not worth the wait” or something like that. Also those are probably not the final graphics.

Totally agree with you here. I was seeing comments like "Even if game is just a graphical upgrade over GTA V I'm sold" all over twitter. Like NO? RDR2 wasn't just a graphical upgrade over rdr1, the immersion it gave is something still no other games hold till this day. Sure, GTA isn't meant to be as serious series as RDR, but I need to see a more immersed version for GTA 6. All the cool features FROM THE ENTIRE GTA SERIES should be implemented on this game, or at least close to it, and other additional new things ofc. We dont know it GTA 6 will be the last ever GTA series game, so they need to fill the void for generations to come. Anyone who has lower expectation can go back to the boring gta online, yall dont deserve a masterpiece.

I honestly have been thinking about not even buying VI, let alone preordering. I may wait for a sale honestly. Games are very expensive, and I have been very disappointed in the quality of R* releases post Red Dead Redemption II. To those saying that the main dev teams weren't responsible for a lot of that - that's kind of my point. R* are by far one of the richest companies in the world, yet they can't hire an in-house team to remaster the 3D era properly? Can't make singleplayer content for the biggest selling title ever? Make "free" content that for all intents and purposes is actually paywalled for newer players or players who don't cheat. That, and most of the people behind all of the games that GTA fans consider to be the most "classic" (III-V) are gone now. Lazlow won't even be in it. Idk, all of those things sat wrong enough with me that I am very skeptical of this game. I'm not holding my breath. I really want this game to be great, but I'm gonna go into it with very low expectations.

The only things that sour my expectations: No PC version on release, possibly no (or cancelled) single player story DLC just like GTA V, their 30 day Epic exclusive (no Steam for 30 days) with RDR2 (which they lied about, technical difficulties putting it on the Steam platform my ass) when it finally got its PC release, their attack on the modding community, and their botched trilogy release. So I'm keeping my expectations in check, and probably won't be playing for a year or two after the actual release as I wait hoping for a PC release.

Everyone absolutely should lower their expectations. It'll be a great game for sure, but all of the insane stuff people hope will be in it is just not realistic. Some are definitely setting themselves up for disappointment.

It's probably going to be woke as hell. That's why they're saying to lower expectations. They've already been retroactively censoring GTA V.

It really doesn't have to be that big of a leap imo. I'm really just expecting the same old GTA just with more immersive elements like in RDR2 and that's really all I want.

After RDR 2 they literally updated gta online and red dead online. They literally are not slacking. RDR 1 -> GTA V was a huge improvement GTA V -> RDR 2 was huge improvement. RDR 2 -> GTA VI will be a huge improvement too. But keep your expectations low. There was huge expectations for RDR 2 and everyone literally thought it was disappointing when it released because it was just slow.

It's weird because what he's saying is always true. The next Elder Scrolls game will be nearly identical to Skyrim, and the only real major change will be the graphics. When I first started working on my own game, the Lead Writer for the game, brought in 3 of his friends from the industry for a brainstorming session he had. All of these writers were from large studio where they worked developing robust RPGs and Immersive Sims; one even worked at Rockstar on GTA IV. He asked if I'd like to show up just to see how they came up with ideas for story content, and I was like, "Absolutely, I'd love to see how you all work out the details on game stories." So they go through some of my design content and one of them starts laughing, and I questioned why. He said, "Hahaha we're going to need to expand this small list of quest types." I had like 9 quest types that I had thoroughly thought out and deeply prototyped between myself and the other two designers. So they sat there and kept throwing out idea and I'd say, "That falls under this type... You are creating content descriptions for it, but it's still just classified as a 'fetch' quest." At the end of the session they had spent nearly 3 hours just trying to come up with more quest types and it ended with them realizing that I covered every type of quest they could make with 9 categories; practically every game will only ever have those 9 categories of quests with story content that just hides how they're all under those few types. I believe GTA VI is going to have tons of great story content, with really amazing graphics, but it'll still be tons of "fetch" quests, tons of "travel to" quests, tons of "kill this" quests, etc. You'll still shoot things, crash into things, and blow things up the same way. It's ok for a game to just improve in some aspects without "revolutionizing how we look at games". I had a friend of mine come back from a Cyberpunk 2077 private showing and he was like, "Man it just looked and played like a much nicer Deus Ex : Mankind Divided." I was like, "Haha what's wrong with that? I mean what were you expected it to do? Change the way you look at gaming?" And he said, "Yea, the way people talked it up, I thought it was the next step in gaming evolution." I think that's the type of over-expectation the guy is referring too.

gta 5 came out on ps3 and xbox 360, more than 10 years so yes, I do think the leap will be pretty massive

I had high expectations on rdr2 and it delivered.. gameplay and story!!!

I'm excited for it but my expectations are not that high, especially after what R* gave us with the E&E version

GTA 6 began development in 2019 and was delayed by the pandemic as well as the "crunch time" controversy with RDR2. had this not happened, we likely would have seen a PS5-focused release date of around 2022-2023. 2.) Instead, we're getting a PS6-focused release date of PS5 in Fall 2025 (no more delays? could release fall 2026, right before PS6 releases) , PS6 is expected to release in Fall 2026, and PS6/PC GTA 6 likely in Spring or Fall of 2027. This will be nearly identical to what happened with GTA V AND RDR2. I'm focusing on Playstation because Rockstar has always focused on playstation. When they announce something, they're talking about playstation, other consoles and devices come secondary. This has been the case since GTA III. Anyway: GTA V released on PS3 in sept 2013, PS4 came out 2 months later, nov 2013. PS4 GTAV came out Nov 2014, and PC GTAV came out May 2015. RDR2 released PS4 2018, PS5 came out Nov 2020, RDR2 would have seen a re-release on PS5 had it not been for the pandemic. This re-release got invevitably delayed due to everything going on at the time, including their own staff controversies. instead, they finally pushed an update this year i believe (2024). But, things are back to normal, i strongly feel like GTA 6 is back to this plan, because it makes more money for the company.

I always keep my expectations low nowadays as I found having high ones will always just leave you disappointed. Especially with how everyone only wants gaming to be online now hardly anyone cares about a good story anymore, just take RDR2 for example. That game had an amazing story, yet ppl only ever asked for Red Dead Online. So I started managing my expectations and setting them low for every game that I might wanna try and I find myself being disappointed a lot less. Personally, I couldn't care less about GTA Online anymore as I only play GTA for Roleplay now and it will be the same for GTA 6. I'll play the story but after that the only reason I will touch it again is for when the Roleplay servers come back. But I do truly hope that GTA 6 will have a great story.

I think the thing people aren’t realizing is if you go look at every game that was in development stage it’s potato graphics, now go look at development stages for GTA six… they could’ve released the game as was and I wouldn’t have known the difference. Thing I dont think I'll be able to do in GTA VI : order food from a proper menu at restaurant, like San Andeas. Crouch like tommy, crouch and crawl like CJ. Rampages. Hidden packages. Firefighter missions, Vigilante Missions, Ambulance Missions. Safehouses that I can buy and actually save at and store my car in the garage. modding cars like in SA... yeah all that is gone since we got this Big city nothing to do in it GTA 4 game. Things I know will happen : Jason and Lucia will have about 3 hour of dialogue where they complain about their situation like Nikko, Michael and Franklin all did.

What is being a gamer without being hyped for your hobby? I was hyped for bg3, cyberpunk 2077(played on good pc), and elden ring. ALL OF WHICH LIVED UP TO MY HYPE

Multiplayer aside, the singleplayer part is one that im very worried about, particularly the writing. A lot of veteran devs left Rockstar, it is not the studio that made GTA V. Leslie Benzies, Dan Houser, Lazlow. Recently Michael Unsworth, another senior writer, though he probably finished his work on 6. Not only that, Rockstar has been retroactively censoring previous games and vowing to not "punch down" with their jokes anymore - translation: safer, less risky humor. Not a good sign at all. Much smarter to expect little and potentially be pleasantly surprised than to be excited and be disappointed with another safe game made for "modern audiences".

My only worry is rockstar is under take2 who are money hungry case in point nba2k, don’t be surprised half of the game gets to be unlocked online with massive paywalls. Hopefully not but it’s take2 .

for me to be satisfied that GTA6 hit a home run i would like to see : a great story that includes the brilliant dialogue that GTA is known for, great characters, incredible animation, lifelike crowd reactions to events playing out through the city, BUSY streets. I want to be able to talk to NPCS and never feel like i've heard the same lines being repeated (pretty much already done in RDR2) i want great gunplay, and some more depth in the fistfights too. Very excited to see how they've set the physics for cars. I really want cars to actually SOUND like real cars aswell. the sounds that vehicles make in this day and age of video gaming are generally well behind all the other tech that's involved. I want car crashes to be believable, i want the destruction of vehicles to be life like. I want a sheer wealth of options to choose from in terms of cars! I want a million silly side missions. I want all the little details from RDR2 in GTA6 form. I want quiet moments in the story, I want epic set pieces, atmospheric tension, and a banging soundtrack like rockstar has always done so well. I want the city to feel like it's living, breathing. Basically I'm asking for rockstar to simply improve upon their age old beautiful recipe, then i'll be happy. I'm sure they've got it in the bag.

Literally...if they can just give us all the things you do in san andreas combined with an iconic character like niko bellick/characters and story like iv then i think fans will be happy. Is that too much to ask for?

What makes this game weird is modern Miami ain't what it used to be in the 70's and 80's, could've still made a good story out of that era even without Dan Houser. The story's likely going to be trash while the gameplay is solid.

While a graphics revolution for such a big game world has always been too much for GTA, this doesn't mean the graphics shouldn't be better. And what's more, the GTA worlds have also been about making the world feel more alive, and that's where I expect the biggest improvements to be at. In GTAV, there were a lot of classic GTA elements cut out because the game was too big for the consoles it was made for. Things like the Fire Truck missions, the Ambulance missions, and the Vigilante missions were all cut. Also, the ambient medics that were supposed to respond to NPCs getting injured were also gimped, and everyone they showed up, they never healed the NPC. Same with the police, everytime they appeared they had weird coding where they would spawn and do a chase or something, but if you looked away they would immediately despawn. Things like this need to be fixed in GTA6, AT LEAST. GTA6 might not be a graphics revolution, but it still needs to look damn good. And the world needs to fix all the cut content from GTAV, like the fully functional fire department, ambulance, and police, along with their side missions for us to play. But even just making the world feel alive I feel is asking too much. As they say, once the original devs of a company leave, the leftovers are gonna be lower quality devs, and I feel that is what is going to happen with Rockstar and GTA6. Most of the original Rockstar team left after Red Dead Redemption 2, and now most of the devs are newer people who don't have the same skill and passion, and this could be the only reason why GTA6 might "disappoint". If it was the original team, they would have pushed the boundaries as much as they could, like they did with pretty every single game they released.
