Hot Wheels Bone Shaker - Redline Conversion / Chassis Replacement - I really like the look of the Moon Eyes Bone Shaker, so when TimeRider released a different chassis/base for the Bone Shaker recently on Thingiverse (link below), I decided this was the perfect casting to try it out on. I added some details to the body, including a Moon Speed Equipment decal behind the cab, and then replaced the base. The base replacement changes the engine, changes the skull for a standard radiator, and lowers the overall stance. The casting also got a clear coat over the factory paint.
TimeRider’s Bone Shaker chassis used in this build is located at…

No jeweller's saw. No JB Weld. No Gauzy. And still a fine looking custom! That's a neat little chassis by TimeRider. Sometimes less is more, Jim. Like in this case. Very nice result! 🍁👍

A Jim-Silva-sans-Gauzy build?! I never thought I’d live to see that. I guess it took a windowless casting to pull off that feat. Nice job! Another great video.

Hi Jim! You know how much I love Bone Shakers, so am really delighted with this build! The stance is fantastic...thank you for the link to chassis. I’m going to give it a try. And the redlines are wheels I’ve been dying to try on a Shaker custom. I assume the sizes you used are large rear and medium fronts? Again, fantastic build...thank you for the inspiration!

Thanks so much Jimmy! The file Lee created really makes the stance easy to achieve. Yes, I used large rear and medium front wheels from Brightvision on the build. I can't wait to see what you build because your work is exceptional!

Redline conversions are almost always welcome on Hotwheels. It's one of the greatest callbacks to the legendary toymakers heritage legacy. Unfortunately for me....the concept sorta fails for me on this build. I am a purist and love redlines. Dont get me wrong. But being a purist I also look at the idea Hot Wheels was going for when they made this particular livery. That means they utilized A newer wheel in their parts bin to supplement the Mooneyes feel. it really captures the "Moon Disc" wheel covers MoonEyes is known for. Something they created in 2018. But that's me. There is absolutely nothing wrong with your build. It is perfectly executed. On Lee's design..... I sorts wish the radiator was a tad larger. Maybe it's because it is black? I dunno. Seems to me it should be flush with the top of the hood. The side pipes tho. Now that is pure Hot Wheels nostalgia. Remember the small pips that curved up like this on the early models? What a great look this is. Makes the stock version look stupid! Also funny to call a rat rod "stock". Just my 2 cents. Your mileage may vary.
@JimSilva-SilvaDiecastCustoms
@JimSilva-SilvaDiecastCustoms 2 года назад
While I understand your feeling that the original casting captured the Moon feel better than the redlines, given the number of Moon livery issues they're released with wheels other than the new design, I didn't even blink before changing them out lol. Maybe that's because I often find myself seeing a Hot Wheels casting with anything other than redlines as not quite a "true" Hot Wheels car. Everything I played with as a kid had redlines lol. About the base - if I remember correctly, Lee based his design on early Hot Wheels cars (I can't remember the exact casting off the top of my head, but I think the engine was one he created originally for a car he was restoring) so it truly is a throwback to the original HW designs, and the pipes really are fantastic!

Looks awesome!! This is one of my favorite castings and it's cool to see it as a redline. Always looking forward to your builds. How do you apply the Minwax?
@JimSilva-SilvaDiecastCustoms
@JimSilva-SilvaDiecastCustoms 2 года назад
Thanks Rudy! I should have described it a little better - the Minwax clear I use is a rattlecan spray - in this case, I tried something a little different that they make - a Polycrylic clear gloss that is water based that was recommended by another builder (Southpaw Diecast). I'm pretty happy with the results and will have to try it again because it's said not to yellow like their Polyurethane that I usually use.

Thanks! I think it would be interesting to fully detail the front end. Because of where I was going with the coloring of this build, I wanted it to be primarily black...but if the grill, lights and bezels, and so on were painted to bring out the detail, it could be really interesting.
