Looks awesome! I dropped my Dakota at my friend's house because his driveway is level. I used the Belltech 4/4 drop kit. It was easy to install the front. The rear hangers & replacing the ball joints was a pain. Love the fact you are doing work at home like most of us, instead of a fancy shop. Keeping it real!

Love the truck and your content, keep it up. I’ve got a 67 with a 5/7 drop as well and CPP tubular up front. As you mentioned the drive quality is not the best but I’m wanting to improve it. I’d like to do more traveling in the truck and my current setup basically has the top spring mount bracket riding on my bump stop with not much room for travel when I hit those bumps at 75mph. I’m considering replacing my 3 inch drop springs with 2 inch springs. So basically the reversal of what you did to your truck. In your opinion would going to a 2 inch greatly improve my drive quality? Thank you

No problems with alignment though it does ride a little more "firm" at this drop and even enough difference from the 4.5/6. But yeah, get it aligned by a reputable shop and you should be good to go.

What is your truck like to drive daily? Does it handle well with the springs you installed? Do you have rubbing issues?
@UNITEDBYTRUCKS
@UNITEDBYTRUCKS 5 лет назад
I don't drive it daily per se. There is a dramatic difference in the ride quality from 4.5/6 to 5.5/7. Basically, it needs sway bars to handle "well" in my opinion. And yes, I have some rubbing issues at the front inner fender at highway speeds on big interstate bumps.

What can I say, except that "Teddy" is now one sweet looking old "bear" of a truck! That is right around where I want my '79 C/30 dually crew to be sitting, but not 100% sure, seeing that she is so long. I just might end up being hung up just trying to drive it from the road, up an every day ordinary entrance slope across a sidewalk to my favorite "ARBY'S" or any other eating establishment that happens to catch my eye at the precise moment when my stomach growls, confirming that is what I must partake in, or not be happy for the rest of the day...... possibly. 🤔 😁 ! So what do you think about the 5½ & 7 drop on mine? Would be grateful for any insight that you may have on my behemoth for a good drop. Thanks, Gordon.
@UNITEDBYTRUCKS
@UNITEDBYTRUCKS 5 лет назад
Thanks, Gordon! I would most definitely go with a 5/7 or even 6/8 for a crew cab dually. That's what we're going with on our single cab dually and is a pretty common drop on squarebody c30s.

Hey bud what size tires are you running?? was thinking of getting the 3/5 kit and doing the rotor upgrade with the 2.5 inch drop spindles, and a rear block kit... so same 5.5/7... just curious if my 225/55r17... and another question. C-notch will that help or is it irrelevant? i bought one as well but not sure if it will lower it further (which i dont need)?
@UNITEDBYTRUCKS
@UNITEDBYTRUCKS 5 лет назад
Hey, man! I'm running 235/45/20 in front and 285/40/20 and the c-notch won't lower it but it will definitely help keep your frame from contacting your rear axle when you get that low. Anything more than 5" and you need to consider a c-notch
@Jaydoubleu83
@Jaydoubleu83 5 лет назад

@trashbandit2449

Did you have to change anything when the first lowering springs were put in, or could you just switch them with the originals? I thought something had to be flipped upside down but can't remember what...?
@UNITEDBYTRUCKS
@UNITEDBYTRUCKS 4 года назад
On the 67-87 trucks you can simply swap the springs in the front. The rear is where they are different. The 73-up trucks need a flip kit to get 5"+ in the rear. 72-down, to '63, you can simply swap springs out on the trailing arms.

What lowering kit are you using
@UNITEDBYTRUCKS
@UNITEDBYTRUCKS 4 года назад
We typically piece our kits together - this was CPP springs and spindles with Street Machinery drop blocks, if I remember correctly. I likely have it listed in the video description.

Would this work on my 69 c20, on the rear? And what exactly did you do? Any welding, Did you remove the leaf springs and went with coils and a lowering block? I want to lower the back of my truck so bad.
@UNITEDBYTRUCKS
@UNITEDBYTRUCKS 3 года назад
You'd have to convert to trailing arms or a coil spring rear set-up to work (if you're leaf springs).
@67694

Ok so I’ve had trouble getting answers so maybe you could help me. Since it is a 69 c20 I have 8 lug drum all around. I want to convert it to 5 lug disc all around. I have a 75 rear dif with 5 lugs and disc. I also have 75 front discs, arms, and everything else. How could I convert the front? How can I do the back? What will need to be worked around since it is a c20 or since I have parts for a different body style. Or is there simply a kit. What about brake lines?

What size tires are you running? I have a 1969 c10, got a 4/6 drop for it, gonna run 15’s but not sure on a good tire size!
@UNITEDBYTRUCKS
@UNITEDBYTRUCKS 5 лет назад
235/45/20 in front and 285/40/20 in rear. If you're running 15s on a 4/6, it's hard to go wrong with a 255/60 front and 275/60 rear. If you have skinny steelies or something like factory steel wheels, 7" wide or less, something like a 225/75 would work well.

How much did your slip yoke that attaches the driveshaft to transmission move forward after you lowered it?
@UNITEDBYTRUCKS
@UNITEDBYTRUCKS 5 лет назад
You know I don't know. I lowered it 4.5/6 before this drop to 5.5/7 and when I did the first drop I had the driveshaft shortened, balanced, new 27 spline yoke and u-joints because I installed the 5.3/4L60E so I honestly don't have an answer for you. I can say, it did not move very much from 4.5/6 drop to 5.5/7 drop.

@@UNITEDBYTRUCKS Ok thanks anyways for the reply, liked and subbed! I recently swapped my th350 for a 700r4 in my 1970 gmc. I had the driveshaft shortened 3.25". The driveshaft fits perfect for now, the slip yoke sits in the stock location but I now i'm wondering if I should have got the driveshaft shortened more since i want to lower the truck.

@UNITEDBYTRUCKS
@UNITEDBYTRUCKS 4 года назад
Sorta. I had a 2" lowering spring and went to a 3" lowering spring. That measurement is not the length of the spring but how much it will lower your truck.

Any tire rub front the front?
@UNITEDBYTRUCKS
@UNITEDBYTRUCKS 5 лет назад
Not an ounce. I was a little concerned about that. I need to actually adjust my trac bar in the rear a little bc I am getting a tad on the driver rear tire outer edge on real hard bumps. That's highway speed on crappy interstates though. Normal driving, no rub at all. On any corner.

@UNITEDBYTRUCKS
@UNITEDBYTRUCKS 5 лет назад
Sweet! Thanks. They're fairly close to the ground, but I would say at least 3-4 inches ground clearance. I wouldn't want to go any lower without either changing to tubular arms or lifting up the entire crossmember, etc.

@UNITEDBYTRUCKS

The inner fender wells on a sqarebody are entirely different than those on a 67-72 truck. I imagine that you need to either run a lower profile tire or pull your inner fenders.

Why didn't you install new ball joints & tie rod ends? Now you need to do this all over again. If it's a money thing. Wait another month or two down the road. Then do it once. 1 inch isn't worth that much work twice. Now three times. You did the first set. Did you wire wheel & paint the rear spring holders & buy new bolts?
@UNITEDBYTRUCKS
@UNITEDBYTRUCKS 5 лет назад
Lee Olaeta boy, everybody’s an arm chair critic these days. Ball joints and tie rod ends have been changed within last year, 1 inch is worth it to me, and it was an exercise to show those who don’t know ho to change springs how to do it. And no, i buttoned up the rear just the way it came apart. It’s all getting changed again soon.
