I am 5'5" also. When I bought my 2017 Road Glide I called the dealership and asked about lowering. They said the first thing they would do is replace stock shocks with Progressive 412 or 444 series 11.5" shocks. They did say the it would cost a little bit of money, $450 for the 412 series and $650 for the 444 series with about $75 in labor. So i ordered the shocks and replaced them myself. Dropped the bike 2"

Damn. I just lowered my front forks and Lowered the back 3 different ways (1 in block, 2 in block, and finally lowering springs) and I don’t think I have $450 in all that

Solo riding I'm good. 2up tho I'm a little worried because of my footing but still manageable. So I believe 1" lowered will be good. If you had to do it all over again, knowing what you know now, what would you do? My main concern is functionality and keeping my stock shocks if possible! 2021 SGS

If you want to keep stock shocks maybe try a low profile seat or reduced reach seat. To do it all over though I would go with a new lower shock right away.

I was wondering about lowering also so I went to the Harley accessories page and it shows a lowing kit for the front that says lowers .7'' which may help you also. 2017 and later touring models. Comes with a side stand bracket so bike will lean properly.

I have a friend with a 1in lowering block on her (i think its a 2017) Road King. She road out to Cali and back to Ohio last year, besides the stiffer ride no other issues.

I lowered mine and the adjuster wheel was hitting the belt pulley. That was loaded with two up (although, both together we only weigh 260lbs. When we were bottomming out it was breaking the back wheel. I can send the pics but I don't know who to upload here

Hmm interesting.. I haven't noticed any wearing on mine but I'll have to keep a close eye on it. I just bought the stuff from Harley to lower the front. I've also came across back slammer shocks I've been thinking about picking up to have it lowered still but put the shock back in the location it should be.

@@daileyshow8353 just measure the distance between the preload adjuster and the amount of travel available on the shock. You will see they can collide. Some of the suppliers of lowering kits are putting a warning ie max load 250lbs . Just keep plenty of preload on. It braked my back wheel on a muddy (bumpy) corner in the mountains and threw us off the bike. Kind regards, Bill

ouch glad you made it through that. I usually ride solo and im about 150-160 so maybe that is why I havent noticed. Thanks for the info I will be looking for a different safer way to lower it.

I am thinking of lowering my Street Glide an inch or 2 and other than a stiffer ride any other draw backs? What the main reason you say not to do this unless necessary Thanks
@daileyshow8353
@daileyshow8353 2 года назад
I’ve heard some bad stories about the shocks breaking or dial for preload hitting the belt and messing the belt all up.. I actually just bought slammer shocks and it’s about equal to the 2 inch block

Dealership told me when I asked about lowering it, they suggested replacing stock shocks with Progressive 412 or 444 series 11.5" shocks. Best thing I ever did. But you have to make sure you get the sag right.

Good kit typically guys lower their bikes by cranking down on the shocks and then complain their bikes ride like sh8t ! Good luck on your YT journey thumbnails and key words are your friends !
