Yeah always liked the bike except for the big high rear seat and fender. Seeing they are bit older and cheaper now I didn't have a problem modifying it a bit and it really made it look better I thought. Thanks for watching, Regards Steve

Good on you Steve. Makes sense what you’ve done taking the height out of the rear end. 👍

Thanks for sharing - lowering the back makes the bike look completely different. I cannot stand the saddle seat either so will be doing this mod before summer.

I so love your mods ! Alright what seat do you have ? I notice it ain't the original one, is it softer for longer rides and advisable? Great welding btw, I woudn't dare doing it myself as I'm a very bad welder, yours look very solid though!

Hi Steve. Nice work on the seat mod. Did you check your rear wheel travel? Maybe remove the linkage to see how close the wheel gets to the seat or frame if you bottom out? Cheers.

Hi Jack, no I didn't but the theory was that I measured the depth of the cat converter that I removed to fit an after market exhaust and so I had that much room to play with. It was just under 100mm in depth with brackets so I knew I drop this much at least. In the end I dropped a 100mm at the end of the rack so that was probably about 90mm over the wheel Regards Steve

Good morning, I like the modification you have made, I think I'm going to copy your idea since it also happens to me that I can't move on the motorcycle. Watching your video, I thought I heard that it has dropped 100 millimeters in the final part of the tail compared to the original measurement? Greetings
@dirtbikeadv
@dirtbikeadv 9 месяцев назад
Hi Alex, you are correct I dropped it 100mm when measured at the tail light. Worked out a treat. Thanks for watching Regards Steve

Hi Ivan The decals are from Winners Ink in Europe. Go into the Tenere tab and they have decals for the T7 and the 660

Thanks for sharing... planning on the mod myself. I find the XT 660 to tall for my taste, but did the lowering affect the seat height too?
@dirtbikeadv
@dirtbikeadv Год назад
Hi Prit Sorry for the slow delay very busy time of the year here. The mod did not affect the seat too much as the saddle part of the original seat was not too much different. It is lower yes but the key for me was you can move around on the seat a lot more and the rear of the seat is much lower. I sit well back on a bike and the original seat was no good for me at all. It does make the centre of gravity much lower when you have the rear rack loaded up. Looks a whole better as well. :) Thanks for watching Regards Steve

Did this modification need to be mod-plated at all, and would it be considered legal to have it done without a mod plate, or would it mean you would not be covered by insurance in an accident? Just wanting to be careful. Thanks.
@dirtbikeadv
@dirtbikeadv 2 месяца назад
@@joelpukallus7340 Hi Joe, yeah good call. I didn't notify my insurer or the registration body. It still allows the fitment of the cat converter for RWC to transfer registration which was my main concern. Other than that it does not improve performance or change handling characteristics so in my humble opinion no mod plates required. An insurance company could not claim in any way that this could contribute to an accident, again in my humble opinion. Having said that make sure you have suitable experience in welding so not to compromise the integrity of the subframe. If concerned talk to and automotive engineer. Thanks for watching Regards Steve

@@dirtbikeadv Thanks for the reply. I was also wondering if you could tell me what tail tidy you have on the bike? and was it hard to fit up? thanks.
@dirtbikeadv
@dirtbikeadv Месяц назад
@@joelpukallus7340 With the tail I simply removed all the ugly grey plastic and left the steel structure there. Then fitted an aftermarket Dr650 tail light with a number plate holder and a rubber mud flap hanging down to neaten it up and stop mud splashing up on vehicles behind me. Just used a rubber sheet about 4mm thick and cut it too shape bolting it on with stainless screws, nylon loc nuts and big panel washers. Worked a treat for me.

May I ask how you retained the back parallel to the ground if you bent it downwards after the cut? Thanks
@dirtbikeadv
@dirtbikeadv 2 года назад
Hi Stefan The rear subframe runs up at a pretty steep angle so u just drop it down to a flatter angle. The seat foam dictates what looks level to a large degree. I cut the saddle part out all together. I have since also cut it even more and put a new cover on since this video. Hope this helps Regards Steve

Hi, I am planning to do this mod at some point soon, I've just finished popping wr450f forks on and want to continue to make it perfect for what ibwant it for, did you have to modify the seat at all? Obviously taken the hump out but I mean the base of the seat?
@dirtbikeadv
@dirtbikeadv Год назад
Hi, no I didn't need to modify the seat pan at all just cut the foam back and got a new seat skin made to suit the new shape. I think it makes the bike a lot more comfortable so good luck Regards Steve
