Drain the old oil, fill with new oil. Video for the new Lowrider ST owner who's curious about what's required to do this yourself. Amazon affiliate link to funnels: amzn.to/3lm4hS8
Like what @Matt-pu7ow said. If you idle on the jiffy stand (like you did in the vid) then turn the bike off and check the oil, that will give a false low reading. The bike needs to be idled upright and turned off while it is upright. Then placed on the jiffy stand to check the oil. Idling on the jiffy stand can lead to people seeing a false low reading, putting more oil in and over filling it.
This is the most infuriating thing… just did my oil change and there is no way this dipstick is accurate. The engine has to be leaving oil somewhere it shouldn’t be. My oil was reading right in the middle of the dipstick before I changed it and not with 4.6 qts in it it’s barely reading no matter what I do.. I think Harley has a problem on their hands
If you stop the bike standing up instead of turning it off on the jiffy stand and check the oil on the jiffy stand your oil marking will go up... just so you know
According to the Softail Owners Manual that came with the 2022 Low Rider S, If the bike is cold and leaning on the jiffy stand, oil level should read at the Add QT mark. If the bike is hot (200 Fahrenheit or higher), oil level should read between the ADD QT and FULL HOT mark. Again, this is with the bike leaning on the jiffy stand.
great video! straight to the point! . however I just have one question. My softail is at 5000 miles. Do I need to change the primary and transmission fluid? The owners manual says at 10k miles to do the primary lubricant. And 20k to do the transmission lubricant. Would it hurt to change the primary and transmission and engine oil all at once with only 5000 miles?
Excellent video thx.. Can you tell me if anyone else makes floor boards for mid controls? Those look like Thrasher. Also who makes rear passenger pegs/ sliders? Thx in advance
20w-50 V Twin oil is what they take. One can also use specific transmission oil and transfer case (wet clutch) oil as well, so there would be three different types of oil in each compartment.
