Gotta understand that Monty was really insecure about his sexuality and obviously being raised by his father he had this idea in his head that there's something wrong with being gay. So naturally people saying he 'loved' Bryce made him uncomfortable given his insecurities. Personally I don't think he had any romantic feelings for Bryce but I do think he loved him like a brother.

honey monet that’s how I feel. There is absolutely no excuse for what he did at the end of season two to Tyler but doesn’t it make you think why he’s like that? And what made him that way? In my opinion he’s different from Bryce. Monty did what he did out of pure anger and hatred but Bryce does what he does for his own enjoyment.

But dont forget he was on steroids which would have a HUUUUGE impact on everything that happened.

I agree with u. what I think is, Scott had the development that they wanted for Montgomery but what happened is that they had something to put in the second season but not enough to make it super relevant. so they chose to make someone look really bad again. but who? Bryce is already in a bad position so adding other crimes/bad actions won’t impact his character as much. so In the end they needed someone that was already a part of season one but never really had a storyline. and Montgomery is exactly that. kind of an asshole on the surface but even in season one you can tell he has some problems at home + anger issues. so he already kinda looks bad, going around punching people for no apparent reason and overall just being a douchebag all the time. so they got him to be the bad guy in season 2 because if they didnt add his storyline in the show they wouldnt have anything to talk about in season 3. We’re going to see so much more of him/his personal life in season 3 and thats really thrilling to me. im not trying to defend him or anything but Im sure it isnt fully his fault for what he has done.

They killed him off so quickly in Season 3. Like, I actually shed tears. Sure, Monty was a bad person, but he didn’t deserve to die. Then again, I feel like something is up with the sudden death. I assume he was killed by someone in the prison but they never showed him. It was like he meant nothing. Just a kleenex being used once and thrown away. Monty deserved better. I better see him or more of him in Season 4. They can’t leave us on a cliffhanger like this.

There is always more to it. He comes from a broken and abusive home, which is literally no excuse for what he did, but it is complex because he never knew better. Bryce and team were his chosen family and he would have done ( did) anything for them just to be accepted and loved. It is truly tragic as well as Tylers storyline. Both in different ways of course. But it really makes me cry as well when i think about How many children are treated like Monty at Home. It is so important, that 13 reasons why shed a light to it.

Monty is an exception because he may be a complex character, but his character is just around for pure evil, he r*ped Tyler over the fact that the baseball season was cancelled, who even does that? I think it’d be cool to see a little more about him, he is a complex character no matter if he’s good or bad. I hope that they don’t fuck up and try to make us emphasize with him, we should learn a little more but trying to empathize with a rapist isn’t exactly what this show was meant to “start conversation” about.

xCathee no of course not! But I don't think you can consider anyone as pure evil, there are always different nuances based on education, surroundings and development. And as evil as he is depicted, he still has a heart and a past and is a human being. Nothing excuses what he did, never. But he is broken inside as well.

Riley Coleman There is no excuse for making a mistake. In real life you gotta own up to it and change for the better. If it’s genuine people will see it and eventually people gotta move on. For Monty, it can be strongly argued that his behaviours are caused directly by his upbringing. It doesn’t excuse his actions. Fact is that it serves as a reason for his behaviours. It provides the full story that is only fair to be needed before judging a character/person in their entirety. People are empathetic because they know how it feels to be raised a certain way or to believe in fucked up shit which messed up their mindset and deeply affects them in the future. It couldn’t be helped and it’s not their fault to be born into those circumstances. Some people argue that others in the same circumstances didn’t turn out the same way. Thing is, everyone is different. Some are weaker than others and circumstances that they can’t control, like family especially at a young age does not help at all. Which is why I feel both hate for him for what he did and also pity for him due to his circumstances and it’s also tragic because he could have changed if he had enough strength and courage to reach out for help or if Winston helped him in time. No one deserves to die.

I agree with you, he has done some pretty messed up things. Doing what he did to Tyler is unforgivable and monstrous. My goal wasn't to portray him as good and I'm sorry if you understood it that way, I tried to show off how his friendship with Bryce was toxic and how dangerously far he was willing to go to defend the team. I think Monty is a complex character and that it goes further than just him being a complete jerk. I think we've got a lot left to learn about his character. Monty is a great character, but he is a terrible person. What he did to all of them, especially Tyler, is unacceptable. But hearing about his broken home makes his relationship with Bryce and the others a great parallel to Justin. They were the same season one, but Justin got wise of Bryce being terrible when something Bryce did hurt someone he cared about more than Bryce. As a person he is terrible, but the layers to his character are amazing, especially with the small amount of screen time he gets.

Deako malfoy you know that scene where ani went to Jessica and told her what her worst doing was and then she asks Jessica what she did that was unforgivable. I think Jessica tells Ani there that she and Alex had to do with his death and Ani probably told the rest of them & because they didn’t know where Monty was that night they framed him but we could see that he was with Winston so I think that Winston will play a big role next season

Same point of view! What he did to Tyler, even to Hannah with the rumor with Courtney, or the constant bullying against Alex, makes him no defendable. To me, he seems like a character that could hold an amazing storyline, maybe they'll show through him in season 3 home abuse (we know his father is really abusive towards him), i think there's a lot more to learn about his character. Just the way he's holding on to Bryce and their so called friendship is a sign of how unstable his life is and how necessary it is to him to have someone by his side. As he said, the team and his 'friends' are everything he has, I'm not trying to get empathy for him but I think he's far way more complex than what most people think.
