They did different jobs. The Bren was fully armoured and a front line vehicle, Loyds were second line vehicles used for towing the anti tank guns in infantry divisions as well as divisional heavy mortars. They could come into contact with the enemy in fluid situations thus they had bolt on frontal armour, but that’s all. They were easier to get into than Bren carriers and more room for the crew as well as a standard canvas roof which kept them dry…unlike a Bren where everyone suffered from the weather. Ultimately by 1945 there were better machines and as soon at the war finished Loyds were removed from service.
