The C7 CORVETTE ZR1 IS MY ALL TIME FAVORITE CAR. So I must first say thank you for having it on here. Not many videos on the car. Secondly the owner got the Supercharger size wrong. Its an Eaton roots style charger with 2.65 liters of displacement. Hence why GM internally called it the BAS. B for big and S for supercharger. Ill let you all guess what the A stood for. Improvements over the Z06 and all other C7'S are as follows. Everything front of the steering wheel is unique to the ZR1. 15 radiators. More than the Veyron Bugatti. Dual Injection. Direct and port injection. No more eco modes. Different internals including titanium rods and heads. Crankshaft ETC. More cooling for the transmission and fluids to avoid heat soak. Unique interior accents and a quilted headliner above the driver and passenger. Bigger wheels slightly and a reworked brake system. It stops faster than the Z06. ZTK is the track oriented version. Huge wing. Canards up front. Michelin Pilot sport cup 2t tires and reworked suspension. Low wing ZR1'S HIT 214 MILES AN HOUR flat out. Michelin Super sport tires I believe. ZR1'S OF THE SEVENTH generation use the most carbon fiber of any GM car ever. The hood front fenders, supercharger cover, wing side skirts, and roof. But due to the weight of the fluid in all those radiators, it weighs more than all other C7'S. But it wont heat soak. There's more but that's the main good stuff. Good day chaps. FORGOT TO ADD. The factory air intake they later released for the ZR1 and Z06 added another 18 horsepower. So around 78 for the ZR1 and 10 horsepower for the Z06. STINGRAYS SAW NO INCREASE. And the horsepower produced is worst case scnerio. Meaning in colder weather or whatever the engine makes more power. So at least itll make the SAE certified 755 horsepower without said air intake And lastly the ZR1 has the loudest stock exhaust ever for a Corvette.
LOL yeah there is no way that a heads/cam ls3 with LS7 internals is at 500 wheel. I'm making 460 with a LS1 H/C. 590-620hp would make more sense with the weight difference.
@@beardedforlife3740 yep Texas speed 243 port and polished heads with springs and rockers, Brian tooley racing stage 3 cam. It put down 460@ 6800RPM. I have longtubes and full exhaust also with an OTR air intake. But the actual intake is factory.
@@beardedforlife3740 my car is a 04 gto so it came factory with the better ls6 intake that was on the C5 Zo6. LS1s get a bad rap because they don’t make the torque of a LS2 but the can make about the same in HP. It’s only a .3 liter difference and 14 cubic inches. It’s been an amazing engine.
Jerry is cool as shit 😎 but should done his own damn donuts. Jerry and the RX-7 came out and did there thing only to have those disrespectful ass donuts done . J/k Mike's ZR1 is GORGEOUS 😍 Two bucket list cars here 👌 ( RX-7 LS Is necessary )
I think id take that rx7 all day. Also i love jerry talking about the roll "i thought we were doing 30 he was doing like 40 50" then they let him do the roll "i aint got no speedo" lolol. He has definitely done this before....lol
@@chipotlaway8522 nah for real you do because I used to daily a 88 MR2 and the speedo didn't work I started guessing the speed when I drove next to other cars seeing their speed. You get good at it.
@@nonsugarnoki the corvette you're talking about is the c5 came out in 97 the fd came out before in 92 but fd looks more like the the sr1 viper which came out same year but not as good as the fd ask playboy 😉
Lil’ Jerry feels like the first legit street racer you guys have had on here. Dude was hilarious and obviously not being entirely forthcoming about the car. Loved every second of it.
He said LS7 internals. Then named off the internals and none of it was LS7 stuff, so I assume he just meant its a 427. Didn't sound like a very big cam. low to mid 500s is probably right. Would probably be over 600 with a big cam.
thank fuck, they finally told the racers "when my hands drop you go" i was so sick of people jumping the start. if you jump the start, youve lost the race in my eyes. im happy to see some clean racing again after the throtl episode
On a serious note, watching Hoonigan videos really make my freaking day no matter how bad it can be you guys make it better every single time! Thank you 🙏
I like Jerry, funny dude. Also, he's right, that was a legit 30 roll, 30 is slow AF, he just wanted to hook up in 1st and then run out, smart man. If he isn't good at donuts, and that's his reason for letting Micah do it, I like you even more Jerry. People who know their limits and are still badasses are the ultimate badasses. Random, but just needs to be said.
@@JKZ103 True, in the end all you can do is run what you bring. An LS in a little car that is no joke, i thought he would power steer, but he kept it straight every run.
loving Gary more and more as he shows up on these episodes. Good races and a great matchup, with some pretty charismatic drivers. Jerry was fun to have on.
@@thelachsmith81 I had a friend with an ls3 Vette big cam, headers, tune and it made 490 to the wheels corrected. It needs more than just that to make over 500. Intake manifold would put it over 500. To get 600+ NA it's going to need heavily worked heads, reworked block etc or just some silly sauce. 600 in an ls7 sure but not an LS3.
Dude same, I was beyond stoked when he recently showed up in the Hoonigan vids again. Even just his random throwaway comments are main course material fr lmfao I swear, Gary is one of the very few people i'd go through the effort to watch if they started streaming
Lol if it's an ls3 with ls7 internals it's basically an ls7 with proper heads 😂, no reason to think he's not making 500 and change at the wheels... The Vette is crank hp idk why they were grilling him on the motor lol clearly no power adder, this is just a proper setup...
I believe it. My friends hci c6 Z06 will keep up with a c7 zr1 automatic down the straights on a track day. Given the fd rx7s weight and aero is similar to the c6 I'm not suprised. 15 intercoolers doesn't come for free the c7 zr1 has horrid aerodynamics compared to the c6 and the fd. Zr1 is also extremely heavy. But that rx7 is def making more than 500hp.
Jerry is a driver dude. He just wanted to rip it, and he definitely did! That RX-7 is NO DOUBT fast. I wanna see what the other cars he has! Bring back Jerry!
I've owned the RX7 new before back in the '90s. Let me tell you something. The difference in reliability of these cars is so vast can't even come close to explaining to you how much better the Corvette is of a car. And I loved my rx
I think my man in the ZR1 is still intimidated by his cars power!! Watching his speedo in the clips he wasn't pushing the car hard. It's like he's still scared of it if he is he shouldn't be racing it. You could tell he's not really dragged raced before when he done his burn out. Plus the comment about the drive school. I give it to him though he gave it his all and tried!!
@@ahmeddiagne1906 Horsepower difference is a lot less than that. The ZR1 has 755 crank HP whereas the RX-7 has 500 wheel HP. Assuming the typical 15% drivetrain loss you have with a modern RWD manual the ZR1 is making about 640 wheel HP so more like a 140 difference. Add to that the RX-7 weighing 850lbs less and even with the ZR1 having driver mod it would've still lost.
@@vwjetta4138 Good point with regard to aerodynamic drag. In fact it generates 750 lbs of downforce, "at speed", per GM. However, to my knowledge, they've never stated what speed that is. Hence most suspect it's at top speed which is ~214 MPH. Note: I say this since I have a ZR1 with the ZTK track package, same as this ZR1. And although it's great on a road course it has a negative effect in the 1/4 for the reason you mentioned. That said, my pick was the Mazda due to the power to weight ratio. And of course driver skill became apparent during the run.
@@NekoWinters And in my comment I never said anything about the owner building it anyway. I just said nice build. Implying that whoever built it did a good job. Because that rx7 obviously didn’t come stock from the factory/dealership with that Ls motor in it. Think and use your brain 🧠 next time before you go talking and making yourself look dumb
@@trevorsanchez2470 you need to start looking at people's Instagram's tags when they start saying they built stuff, dude offloaded all the work on others, rich brat nothing else
Great episode, but something definitely tells me that the RX-7 was putting down more power than what Jerry was claiming. I understand the power to weight ratio and driver was a huge plus but no way that thing has only 500 whp lol. Also ZR-1 needs a real driver behind the wheel. The owner isn’t a driver, just a old guy with deep pockets that owns one and has probably never really pushed the car before. Seemed like he was driving scared. You could tell the difference between the drivers when they were talking about their cars. Jerry could tell you everything about the RX-7 and what he’s done to it while the other dude just told you what’s listed on Wikipedia, that it was stick shift, still under warranty, and how his wife said he could buy one😂
@@frog382He has disadvantage on a roll, and the Vette was taking the lead, he has better chance of winning if he was leading on the roll hence he purposely lose the second race for the better negotiation on the third..it's a good strategy fam
@@rhinohippo55 I think you didnt catch it... He won the first one, its 1-0, if he throws the run, its 1-1, if he doesnt, he wins the competition with 2-0 and the third run would be bonus one. If he won the bonus run then, it would be 2-1, the same as if he threw the 2nd one. Also, if he could win the 2nd, why would he risk it by taking it to the 3rd run?
500hp *coughs* without spray *cough* I feel like on the second race he still sandbagged a little bit and let off when he was about to pass him, maybe that was the shifting haha
Just going to say dude in the ZR1 dosent know how to drive that bad ass car. You probably have another 2k RPM before ya have to shift. An there is sport mode on it an turn all the TC off. RX7 had a really nice build.
The Mazda is making a lot more power than he's claiming too. 500whp ÷ 2800lbs = 0.178hp/lb 658whp ÷ 3600lbs = 0.182hp/lb 6 gears in the Mazda 7 gears in the Corvette Based on all the data, the Mazda is realistically making at or over 600whp
@@saltyfloridaman7163 agree completely, there’s no way that car is only putting down 500 wheel hp, but the zr1 guy is just some guy that owns a nice car. He ain’t a driver. Need to get someone who actually knows how to race behind that wheel
That rx7 is light and making great power with a good driver...something tells me after 140 mph or so on a highway or with more space that zr1 with the 755hp would start pulling it in tho...but honestly he even won the roll races which was insane that truly is a beast of a car but like I said I think after a buck 40 or so that zr1 would walk it down and that c7 was held back by lack of space and a driver who still has to master his car and possibly break it in a little more
Couldn’t agree more. The FD driver said it makes 500 *to the wheels* and it’s 800 lbs lighter. The ZR1 had no chance from any dig or roll from less than 80. ZR1 has a great ability to keep pulling hard well above 100. And while I’m sure that FD has plenty of top end too…it’s still down close to 200hp (ZR1 makes around 680 to the wheels with that airbox). And horsepower matters a lot trying to pull from triple digit speeds.
Very true, and yes the zr1 driver was just some guy that owns a nice car. He’s no driver, but something tells me that the RX-7 is making more than 500 lol
A manual C7 ZR1 makes 665-670whp. That's 5.51-5.47lbs/whp If the FD's numbers are correct that's 5.6lbs/whp but we all know they're ball park figures. It's still close enough for the pull to be explained by gearing and aero.
"I stopped at 30" the first in car frame his speedo reads 45 just feet after the cone, he knew he was gonna lose this was just a power to weight ratio battle and the RX7 was winning it all before they lined up
