Thank you for taking the time to put together this video. Everything is so well laid out, very good visual aids, and you sum up hours and hours of r&d i one 17 minute video. Very helpful to the community.
I built my own 4T65E. Zzp input and output shafts, reinforced baskets, kevlar clutches, TH125 chain and sprockets. Drilled spacer plate, transgo shift kit, sonnax boost valve, 12x12x1 plate and fin cooler. Got about 10k on it now putting down 380 wheel daily driven
Glad ya'll are finally recognizing the 4t80e as the most robust option. Nice and thorough with the tidbits. Much better with many of the "soft shift" valves deleted internally....they really went to 11 with the NVH compromises/features for the finicky Caddy buyers. Someday we'll look at two ls4s for the 442
@@LS4King we had the subframe on the ground on "rollers" set the engine and trans down onto the subframe (after some light shaving for clearance) lowered the car down then caught 4 bolts... Nice n smooth👍
That looks super clean and ready for some great performances. I have the 5.3 with an aftermarket remanned 4t65e hd that I ended up going with after my previous 2 transmissions were shredded to pieces. Still holding onto the road with an 06 Impala SS for 18yrs now 🤞🏾🤞🏾
Can't wait to do this to the monte carlo ss my dad left to me when he died I've been talking about doing this for years thanks for the vids of all I need truly helpful
This is awesome, planning on swapping into a X-Body. You can beef up the 4T-65E HD to handle the power ZZP does this and many others. My issue would be the plumbing but the front cover solves that issue. I'm going more a simple small block 383 N/A but this is all paper planning. Anyways great content and can't wait to see the finished product.
@@w41duvernay check out zzp's website but you can run a hardened input and output shafts, oil pump shaft, 1-2 clutches and gmr 1 inch chain replacing the double chains which is it's weak point.
@@LS4King awesome, And I really like that provision prototype you made with the plastic printer.. I live in Michigan I wish you were closer I'm a journeyman 3D tool & die maker.for over 30 years. We definitely could make some stuff. Again Super job on the videos.
I'm wanting to do the 80e swap on my l67 so bad I'm tired of going through transmissions. Hope you can come out with a swap video for them in the future
You guys building these for rear/mid engine drive vehicles? I have an extra 71 Ply Satellite/Roadrunner I'd like to convert to mid engine. Make a street car wheelie machine. 😆
》▪︎One way that could make the tasks of the swap easier for you is to create a program for both the LS4 & 4T80E and have a CNC Mill automatically trim away all of the unnecessary fat from each piece. Might take some time but would be more efficient and helpful to others. doubt is with this GM 4T80E Transmission Swap. The Chevrolet LS4 V8 is, instead4T65E ( That couldn't even handle the HP & Torque from a 3.8l V6 The Owner & Host of this Awesome RU-vid Channel, 》 use with a CNC Mill
Hats off to you sir nice discovery!! And I thought swapping a Tremec T56 into my 09 LS4 impala was a bitch , cracking up, I wish . . Anyhow that trans does look pretty dam stout
Youre making it hard for me to keep my Impala stockish😂 I need her as the daily but I want to build it now more than ever!! I remember you talking about starter location in the last tranny swap video, what ended up being the solution?
Fwd Northstars don’t have a huge performance aftermarket like rhe LS platform does, there are people who would be interested besides myself in this swap
I bet you get a lot of questions regarding a swap from the 4T65e to a 4T80 with a V6. I only ask because I have a friend that wants to build up his SC'd 3800 Bonneville.
What about trying to bolt it up to an L67 in a W body impala..? I'm not happy with my 4T65E, and for some reason, the 4T80E is cheaper than a reman 4T65E-HD. Any help or parts list would be MUCH appreciated. As well as trying to tune it to the OEM computer.
on your lower bellhousing ear that gets cut off,, have you ever considered Tig welding up a different style boss and drilling then tapping a new higher mounting hole,, even if the hole is a little sketchy you can alway install a helicoil and with any luck have that lower hole mountable.. I see your 3D printed adaptor you made and I get the function of it but I just wonder if welding and making a new mounting hole would work
It's certainly not a bad idea...but it is most likely far beyond the average enthusiasts skill level. The clamp is a solution that the average guy can just bolt on for some added insurance.
@@LS4King absolutly,, and I highly believe the clamp will more than help in all situations,,I guess I am lucky that on a daily basis I do my share of AC Tig welding and have no fear of aluminum material,,, hence my job fixing tire molds.. and you are correct,,, slamming the pedal and laying a row of aluminum is not up to everyones skill unlike pulling the trigger of the mig welder,,, and even at that I have done alot of AC mig welding in my work career,, I wish we were closer I think our combined skill of fabrication and welding we could rewrite the LS4 world in its potential
@@LS4King I also forgot to ask,,, and I believe i am talking to the correct guy,,, I follow your buisness facebook page and I seen where you posted you was in a nasty wreck,,, you doing ok now
Facts! Never tighten any bolts untill every bolt is threaded I can't count how many times ive made that stupid mistake how many hours accumaltive total wasted over 12byear or so
What final drive are you running in your monte? I'm looking to put a similar setup in a fiero.. wanted to see if you could help with a recommendation. Figured I would come to the king.
aaron parfitt the 4t65e that the LS4 originally came with has been proven time and time again to be problematic at moderate power levels. The 4t80e is a much stronger transaxle. In a Fiero which is significantly lighter than a w-body I feel you would be much more successful at keeping a 4T65e alive and this swap probably isn’t for you.
I have a 2005 GXP with a 5.3 what year of transmission should I look for 93-99 or 00-up and is it possible to make the tap shift work when using the 4t80 one last question do you sell your conversion brackets braces etc to do the conversion thank you
your answering a question I've had for a while, like can a transverse transaxle take big power back in the day I knew the answer but do the modern ones fare better?
any update on that converter you were working on getting made? also just a thought could they make it work with the ls4 flex plate? or make a 4 bolt flex plate to mount to the ls4?
Precision did a hybrid converter for me. It has the "guts" of a 4T80E, in the shell with a billet cover of a 4T65E. They were really cool about working with me on it. Charged me 1k at the time (about 2 years ago?) SO it bolted up to my stock LS4 flexplate. To Brandon's point, trying to get a billet one made is tougher. I talked with Meziere, they do have a drawing for one, but you'll notice from the edge to center the LS4 flexplate has two "steps". The one they made only has one. They had me take a boatload of measurements to make sure theirs would work, but after all was said and done, they were only about 90% sure there wouldn't be any interference issues. So sticking with the stock one for now.
Rick Dangerous it really comes down to your goals. Under 400whp you could throw money at a 4t65 and have it probably stay together. Anything over that and you are playing with fire in my opinion. That is where the 4t80 comes in. The downside to the 4t80 is just how labor intensive the swap is.
Are all the shift control logics of the 4l80e (line pressure, pwm for lockup frequency, ect.) the same as the 4t80e? I have a standalone controller for the 4l80e so that should work for the 1999 and down 4t80e right
So I bought an ls4 not knowing what I was looking at and I my idea was to put it in my Jeep . I do know that the bolt pattern on the ls4 matches the bolt pattern on a 60 degree 700r4 would you know if I could make that work as far as fly wheel, your oil pan starter provision or another type of starter set up . And lastly I’m sure I could get the motor mount situation fabricated. Could you let me know if it seams possible to do I can’t find anything on any forums about ppl finiothis type of project
If all eternal parts are the same as a regular impala SS or Grand Prix GXP transmission can I use them parts from the Cadillac transmission to rebuild my original one in my impala ?
Concerning the torque converter... How much space should be between flex plate and convertor pads to allow for converter swell and proper pump flex on input shaft?
I want to shove this combo into a U-body (04 Aztek). Besides the obvious question of why someone would juice up an Aztek, I am a road Troll. I don't rage on people, I just like F>
Serious question….do you think this engine would bolt up to any Fwd/Awd import transmissions? Like let’s say a DSM Mitsubishi Eclipse Auto Awd trans? And also any 6/8 speed gm Awd trans?
@@LS4King So far, big Al's N* is running strong - maybe the fact mine was the wifes car of the owner of the caddy dealership where I live back to the mid 2000s, they did lots of work to keep it pristine and maintained.
Excellent job !! Would love to install into a late model Ferro … with custom mounts and axles. Would be inline of being a Supercar at 1000HP!! Can the auto Tranny be set up for paddle shifters? Is there any close ration gear sets that can be used for racing and or off road options ?? What max power can it handle ??? If I ProCharger or supercharge it it could go north of 1,000 HP …. Advise Keep them coming !!!
Hey Glenn! Thanks for the kind words! PCS does offer a trans controller with the option to integrate paddles which would work excellent. Unfortunately at this time, there are no aftermarket gear sets. As for power handling capacity; I have personally put over 800whp and 700ft-lbs through a stock unit with unknown mileage problem free. I think a carefully prepared rebuild would easily support 1k ft-lbs with the normal tricks.
@@LS4King awesome. Very interesting idea. Thank you ..... for sure will put you on my Dial List when I start the project. BTW - love the 3D printed spacer block. Excellent innovative and as an aerospace engineer I love seeing this in Gearhead threads!! Best of luck
Is this trans strong enough to run in serious tow application thinking about old 70s Eldorado subframe and suspension to make a fwd coe or van front cab with a trailer style dual axle flatbed car transporter seen one used a lumina front with the cut behind doors to haul a speed boat
Where can I find a cheap transmission for a 06 impala ss the ones I found are 1100 and up
4 года назад
You plan to rebuild yourself or want to buy and install and roll? You dont want a cheap rdy to go transmission. If you just need a good enough for core, less than 500? check LKQ or message me back here, I know of at least 3 or 4 good enough for core or rebuild in the area.
So the LS4 transmission flex plate/drive plate is already a 3 bolt pattern. If it's factory set up like that, would an LS4 engine bolt into a 2010 Impala to the transmission like it was made for it???
