In this episode, we fit a set of Viking coil overs and a set of Wilwood disc brakes!
The coil overs are actually a kit supplied by Castlemaine Rod Shop designed to fit a HK-HT holden, the reason being is, CRS does offer a coil over set up for HQ's however they require some heavier modifications. After some discussions with Heath and Craig from CRS, we decided to see if the HK-HT could be fitted to a HQ with minimal modifications.

Boys, we’ve all done it and I’m no paint expert but I’ve been told heat the metal behind the fresh paint to dry it. Heating paint this quickly will skin it off quickly and the moist paint underneath can’t evaporate so stays soft. Or heat the surface before you spray it on.

That’s a fair point mate, we will keep it in mind 👍🏼

Really enjoying the build guys. Subbed when this build popped up and have caught up with your other stuff. Enjoy your style, fun to watch and informative. Cool to see the coil overs going on, just got some to put on a hg, it looks pretty painless.

Thanks mate, awesome to hear. Yeah they are really good to install, well they were on the Q, I’d imagine they would be just as easy on the HG

Good combination is Falcon BA disc 28mm X 298mm // AU2 falcon twin piston caliper. Bendix ULTIMATE --PLUS performance ceramic pads [not stock replacement versions ] .. Discs High carbon ULTIMARE discs . Conversion kit required Toyota calipers are slightly better with alot bigger pad range Many overseas pad choices

Howdy Lads, what about some rack and pinion power steering....;
@HackshopGarage
@HackshopGarage 4 года назад
Rack and pinion would be awesome, but for our application, the car is really just meant to be a cruiser, so the standard steering is what we are looking to run at this stage, but maybe one day

Nice work guys! what the part number etched on the front springs (or written on the spring box if you still have it)?
@HackshopGarage
@HackshopGarage 4 года назад
Thanks mate, unfortunately we don’t have the box anymore and now that the springs are in we can’t see the part number. But they were from Castlemaine rod shop and they are sold as HG-HT front coil overs. If you give them a call and ask for what we were given, they should be able to sort you out with part numbers and such

Now a few months on, how have the coil overs performed? Worth the investment?
@HackshopGarage
@HackshopGarage 3 года назад
Unfortunately mate we havnt yet had the car on the road to know, we are still in the build process, but not far off finishing it. From talking to others who have the same or similar set up, they love them and say they are well worth it though
@andrewharrison8880

Can you tell me more about the coil overs, the Rod Shop web page isn't very helpful. It asks what length shock and what pound spring when ordering. I have no idea. Their price for just the shocks is $775, what else is needed for installation? Im interested for my HJ ute.
@HackshopGarage
@HackshopGarage 4 года назад
Not sure what pound spring it is. But the part number in the shock is A220. We got them through Castlemaine rod shop as HG-HT front coil overs. If you give them a call and ask for what we were given, they should be able to direct you to what we used.

What size rotors did you end up going? 280mm or 320mm?

** Beware,, caliper must have dust boot Willwood same as stock caliper piston area same for stock and Willwood brake pad choice smaller surface area limited compound choice Disc diameter same as stock 11 inch Disc thickness thinner than stock 20.5 mm vs stock 25.4mm Summary pads could give dust ,,high wear disc , noisy ,, poor cold perf . Factory stock disc will have far greater ability to absorb heat stock =thicker and heavier
