LSU head women's basketball coach Kim Mulkey spoke with the media following her Tigers 94-87 Elite 8 loss to Iowa. Plus Flau'jae Johnson, Angel Reese and Hailey Van Lith. Caitlin Clark, Lisa Bluder.
Hawks fan here - These are some classy ass women speaking here. All three of them should be proud of their season and their game against Iowa today. As an Iowa fan, the thing that made THIS game exciting was watching two incredible teams play HARD. This matchup was no guarantee for either team. Angel, Hailey, and Flau'jae should all keep their heads held high. 👏
This is a classy post by an Iowa fan. And may I say a mature post as well. No childish name calling or excessive boasting. You gave LSU their props. I salute you
Hardcore Iowa Women's Basketball fan here. Some surprising things happened to me in the course of last year's post-post-season & this great year of fierce competition. I became a genuine Flau'jae fan. My heart went out to Hailey Van Lith as she reinvented herself & her game. And, first but not least, I discovered I secretly harbored a deep respect for Angel Reese as I got to know her better through her interviews - her self-awareness, her honesty, her toughness and, yes, her vulnerability, too. I've found that, without any real effort whatsoever, there's a lot that can be gained simply by listening to her a little more carefully and sympathetically. She's a difference-maker, and not just on a basketball court. Whether or not we always agee with her, somehow she makes us think critically. She makes us ask some big, difficult questions about both ourselves and our society. That's an amazing contribution to our world coming from a 21-year-old. Most surprising of all, BY FAR, I've come to seriously *like* Kim Mulkey. It's not hard in interviews like this one to see why her players love playing for her. Somehow none of this changes my fandom for Caitlin & the Hawkeyes. It somehow enriches it. When love does its thing, it expands us and it expands our world: it doesn't make us smaller.
Thats pretty cool i wish you could Chang the minds of the haters that send death Threat to Angel over a game. I come to respect Karlin leadership even moré than ever.
This is so very well written and I couldn't agree with you more. Somehow you were able to articulate exactly the way I feel about these ladies at LSU and of course Caitlin and the Hawkeyes.
I'm with you, Michael. Crazy & sad & scary when people allow the Us vs. Them thing to take over & fill their hearts with hate. We see way too much of that today. @@michaelcooke8989
As a massive Hawkeyes fan, all I can say is you summed up my experience exactly. And, Angel, I wish nothing but good things upon you! Nothing but respect for this LSU team.
The winners of this game are the fans of woman’s basketball. What a fantastic game, gorgeous basketball from both teams. I wish neither team had to lose. I am so impressed with the whole LSU team. I’m an Iowa fan, but I was yelling out for LSU plays all night. You girls are basketball players and humans of the highest degree. What I feel for this LSU team is complete and total respect. Ignore the haters- let them talk to the wind.
I agree basketball is so exciting because of these two teams I watch women basketball. Honestly Iowa needs to win out without Caitlyn next year it would be difficult to win a championship.
Gorgeous basketball? Hailey Van Lith played like a goddamn disgrace 😂 1 assist from a Point Guard in a win or go home playoff game against your rivals? That’s completely unacceptable. She had many turnovers as she did points scored while letting the player she guarded score 40+ Van Lith should have been benched before the game even started
@@MrBubblecakeso who is LSU’s rivalry, one home win from a rival team, was it one of the cupcake teams? HVL got brainwashed there talking like she is, blame her play on her coach or rather not a coach. Next year Caitlyn Clark. He be gone, that dirty player she be gone and hopefully that no coaching coach be gone, oh happy days the world of woman’s basketball got much much much better, sorry for the WNBA
Iowa fan here, just wanted to say great game ladies. Might I even say an instant classic, hold your heads up. This game brought so many new fans to women’s basketball, an absolute outstanding game!
Yes....Flau'jae should have been on her the whole game. They would have had a better chance of winning but Catlin Clark is a tremendous player to play against for sure.
I agree with ya, but I'm sure that Kim Mulkeys thinking is that you have to have your biggest and most physical gals getting the rebounds and trying to hold down Hannah Stulkey down low (she's an underrated beast who gobbles up all of Clarks passes).
Last tear poa was playing better defense on Caitlin and was also more effective on offense. Coach mulkey continued to play favorites by playing Van Lith.....and it cost her.
I am a old guy. Angel intervened with Swoops on Catlins behalf. Not much about that on media. Hold your head up. Remember Bird lost a game to Magic. Life goes on. You hopefully have a lot of life to live. LSU got 20 more shots in this game than IOWA. I believe you will learn more from coming up a bit short than blowing someone out. Being a good person Angel is something no one can take away from you. Sticks and stones can break your bones, but never let words hurt you.
Reece is no Bird. Or magic. She is not on their level. Or Clark’s. She has insinuated herself into the conversation simply by being an a hole. That’s on the media. There are at least five post players that are better than Reece right now. And hundreds throughout history.
Nobody cares what an old white man has to say. You and your kind have been spreading racism, discrimination, and inequality for hundreds of years, and continue to do so today. There’s few entire groups of people the world would be better off without, but your kind fits the bill. Even if you didn’t actively participate in it yourself, you stood back and watched it happen, which makes you just as guilty. Don’t try calling for equality now that society has started to change, yall had decades to play social justice warrior.
That sticks and stones words never hurt crap is a LIE. Words do hurt PERIOD. And the comparison of Bird, Bird won 5 ships CC hasn’t won anything yet! 💯
People act like great teams don’t lose mj lost how many times in the finals and still won 6 rings sometimes you get knocked down to get back up 10x harder LSU TILL THE DEATH OF ME🐯💛💜 had a nice season ladies good job
First of all shutup these are young adults ..She's crying because she knew they could win and if you remember Catlyin is the one that started it... I wish all of yall that open your mouth about these Queens would actual know the full history and story ... You're looking at 2 black women who have changed the sports... Then Catlyin Clark and her great and outstanding performance please shut up and know what you're talking about
omg people who have never played sports don’t know a lick of what it feels like to lose. Even if she hadn’t cried yall would have said she’s not humble enough. Lol ugh
Coaching mistakes by Mulkey: 1. Flaujae should have guarded Clark. 2. Morrow should have been tasked with scoring more. Let her get 40. Iowa couldn't slow down Morrow. 3. Williams should have been tasked with scoring more. Iowa couldn't slow her down either. 4. Del Rosario, Morrow and Reese in the game at the same time would have killed Iowa. Shocking they couldn't see #1, #2 and #3 and make the adjustment/strategy.
They create issues for themselves then cry saying they face adversity. Blame yourselves for the stigma you created. Acting tough for no reason is going to come back and bite you. Van lith talks to much shit and cannot back it up. Garbage season.
Mulkey was way over her head a real coach would figure it out instead of yelling, stomping her feet failing her arms in the air, cussing the refs. Kim I hate to break the news to you but I’ve never seen theatrics win basketball games. What a disgrace!
Generally, people receive the same energy they give. If they hadn't lost, she'd be talking ish. She generated a lot of the negative energy she receives.
She's definitely a girly girly she's crying because she's human and really she's still a child also (TEXAS) Love's you Angel you are the reason I even look at women's basketball I only watch LSU and that's a fact! 💯🏀💐
@@achhkay4229 first of all I don't give a damn what you are tired of don't come on my line telling me anything when I didn't ask anyone how they felt you need to comment on someone's else's line that Does Not like Angel then you two MF'S can talk about it
It’s because she thinks she can play point and she can’t. Doesn’t have right skill. Set for that. She’s no where near fast enough. Louville coach knew she wasn’t a point but for some reason mulkey thought it was a great idea to Let her play it. Watch Paige next against Iowa. That’s a true point guard. It takes a Specific skill set to play point and HVL ain’t got it
Wow. Imagine going to school dealing with classes midterms finals. Then playing ball in the SEC national spotlight at 20yo and having to deal with receiving death threats abs relentless media attacks.
It kills me how overly nice everyone is being toward Reese. She doesn’t deserve it. Why? Look at her actions in the last two seasons. The poorest of poor sports. Running her mouth, at opposing coaches too. And always when the games been decided, which is bush league. Ya can’t go so far out of your way to be the villain then cry when people don’t like you. These are the consequences for your behavior. And anyone comparing it to normal trash talk isn’t worth trying to explain the difference to. It started w/her getting more leeway on the court last night in regards to contact. Even the refs looked like they were walking on eggshells. God forbid the rules apply to her as they do anyone else. And coach talking about “social media” as if the players aren’t knee deep in that world. U talked trash, loved taking it too far cuz you wanted to be hard, and now people enjoy seeing your downfall. It’s always been the rules. Don’t sign up for that kinda heat if you’re gonna cry victim afterward that’s weak as it gets.
Big national black eye for the LSU women's program by missing the national anthem. That's on coach Mulkey. I realize most LSU fans will defend her as that's what fans do.
Do you realize that the very next game, both USC and UCONN missed the anthem? Its pretty common actually. LSU has become a target and that's the only reason this is an issue.
Incredible game. Mad respect for LSU because they pressed so hard I wasn't totally sure IOWA was going to win until it was down to 7 seconds. Super classy group of women. Listening to Kim Mulkey, you can see why her players love her. I howled when she described what she said to Kaitlin in the handshake line. It was true and funny and perfect. As for Kaitlin - she is a generational player.
HVL was right there on CC. She did a good job trying to stop her but that’s like dissing on anyone on the late 80’s and 90’s for not holding Jordan to under 10. Iowa is my team but Angel is awesome. I wish her the best.
When you have a SG like Clark you can't shut her down she's a scorer that's when plan B let C do her thang contain Clark's #2,#3,#4 options you have to make Clark attempt more shots than normal meaning they statistically Clark attempt's 19.9 a game never more than 30 so defense strategy would be make her attempt at least 10-15 shots per half and the switching defense difference Clark would be tired down in the 4th quarter
You can't play man to man defense on Clark cause ur guards will get frustrated and won't be able to concentrate on running their offense that's why it's gonna take 2 guards to wear Clark down with containing C's #2,3,4 options you will be victorious the 1 thing that frustrates a SG is to much considering defense cause most times when they watch films they will focus on defensive guard not 2 so now Clark's other options will get in foul trouble for trying to set picks plus now you lesser players on the offensive boards
there was nothing anyone could of done to stopped caitlin clark. HVL did a damn good job! it doesn’t always workout the way you want but she deserves recognition
HVL had a tough assignment to guard CC. Sitting and watching from the stands we can say HVL couldn't guard CC. But, HVL gave what she had and that's all anyone could ask for. Great job HVL and LSU
@@adsanford7248 I am an HVL fan but she did a terrible job on defending CC. Her defence all season has been quite average really and same with her shooting. I am sorry to say but she needs to go and I hope they are able to get a good point guard through the transfer portal.
If you have ever been successful in sports and pour everything into it, especially if you’re a champion losing is full of mixed emotions. Time flies and when you’re on the losing side the last seconds of your highschool or college career is a feeling that is difficult to explain
Mad respect for Hof coach mulkey but please explain the logic to put Hailey van lith on Clark??? I seen that at the start of the game and I knew they were gonna lose
It don't matter who you put on her ! Same results ! She killed them last year they just lost! Johnsom would have has to work to hard on defense and wouldnt have been able to contribute on offense ! Caitlan is the best womens shooter of all times ! She will kill on the next level as well ! She like Steph Curry
@@achhkay4229 Dude the point is put your best foot forward at least !! HAILEY got torched a Louisville, she slow and don’t just lay down and give CC what she wants! Double her ass make the others beat you! TRY A longer defender do something don’t just lay down!
I can’t stop wondering about that, either! It’s like Mulkey didn’t watch the game tape of WV vs Iowa! Iowa gets really flustered by intense on ball defense. I’m mystified why they put their slowest player on Clark with essentially zero help the whole time. Grateful (as a Hawkeyes fan), but mystified.
They can blame the lsu coach, no way you let Kaitlyn play without your most your most athletic player guard her especially after the first half she had.
@@johnnythunder196so you think a championship coach should be fired because you didn't like how this game went...boy...glad you aren't the one making those decisions..
How did all of those adversities get started, you reap what you saw. Stay humble in all that your blessed with because it can all go away in a blink of an eye. Johnson your right we don't know Reese the way you do, Stay Humble. Yall display all that on the court in past games.. But yall asses got humbled twice this year South Carolina and Iowa... 💯💞
Kim lost this game. She thought she could just allow Clark her 30 and tried to play her straight up and then shut down the other scorers. Clark showed her why teams that have had any success against Iowa throw everything they have into stopping Clark relentlessly. She is the GOAT and Mulkey is wrong to doubt it.
Look man all this whining on here. Bottom line there’s no victim’s here. You get what you get when you’re on top. When you’re on top you have to have class. LSU has always had a low key image problem. This team just magnified it. HVL thought she had arrived when she left Louisville. ACC is not the same. Bottom line is less bravado more basketball. This generation needs to grow up. You get back what you put into the world
This why a person should have humility, cause when you loose people will not feel sorry for you Ms. Reese. You taunt people, tell players to get their money up or that their broke and you act disrespectful to coaches... I don't feel sorry for you. You can't be a victim when your team loses or you get cooked. I'm sorry to hear about the threats, that is unacceptable. Hopefully, next season, you will grow and mature.
you’re not sorry to hear about the threats otherwise that have been the first thing you said, Angel doesn’t do anything any differently than other women players but she gets poor treatment online . The same last year when Dawn had to address media and fans calling her team monkeys and street fighters. Yall suck and refuse to address the bias you hold.
Kim Mulkey is at total fault for this loss. She made an embarassment out of HVL instead of having Johnson guard Clark the entire time. She waits until Flaujae has 4 fouls to put her on Clark. I’ve never seen anything more idiotic.
Honestly skill wasnt much of a factor in this one. LSU was noticebly tired. Hawkeyes were in way better shape. They just kept running and LSU only had spurts of energy.
She shouldn't have to deal with death threats, any of them. Unfortunately, there are jealous people who have access that they shouldn't have to say these things.. I wish all you ladies the very best to hold your heads higher watch the birds in the sky and let the haters fall off and... you can finish the rest if you can pass the test 😂
Run her mouth saying what exactly that would give someone a reason to threaten someone's life? It's a basketball game not Hamas or North Korea. @@ahdexter7688
@ahdexter7688 death threats, bro.. really.. society is plural, not singular. We don't have to agree on anyone's personal or private matters. I have seen what she did and didn't do.. Should I have to agree with her in all aspects.. no, surely not.. my background is not hers or vice versa. But death threats.. come on, that's too far. She will grow like we all do, don't we all want that.. for our children to grow.. Yet since this precipice has been crossed, how can she grow knowing there's hate in the world.. over what exactly did she do to deserve that? Play a game with just as much passion as Jordan,Thomas, or Bird and Magic.. Stop thinking with only your eyes and brain.. sprinkle a little heart into the mix.. This message is for all you cupcake heroes.. take a bite and taste the Flava of what your cookin
@@irwinfletcher2230 nobody sent her death threats. And if they did it was one person. She wouldn’t have even brought it up if they would have won. You are missing the point. She wants to rub it in someone’s face when she wins, but then play the victim when she loses. But it seems to work, clowns like you that can’t think past one thing believe her.
There was literally an article titled americas sweethearts vs the villains in relation to lsu wtf are you saying?they have been saying stuff like this all the time.
@@neishachambers2719but when they pull the antics, the trash talk, the showing up your opponent...then when they lose, tear up and play the victim, get defensive. That's not a villain, that's a cowards way out.
@@TheCableStrain imma need you to stop commenting on basketball until you start watching basketball. Trash talk is an integral part of basketball. Go out to any court and you will hear it. Trash talk is an integral part of EVERY sport. The most interesting people in the sport art typically the ones doing it. Connor McGregor, andesanya, Muhammad ali, Mike Tyson.. the list literally goes on and on. And guess what, ALL OF THEM SUFFERED DEVASTATING LOSSES. CC did the you can’t see me, cussed people and refs out, etc last year and this year AND LOST LAST YEAR. AND CRIED AT THE POST GAME CONFERENCE. Y’all are so delusional that you can’t even see past your own hypocrisy. Reese cried saying she received death threats and had people creating AI images of her affecting her reputation. She hasn’t cried once this whole season no matter what terrible things you disgusting people said about her. Now talking about all she’s faced during the season, realizing this is probably her last season at lsu, and losing game that meant a lot she cried. How tf is that a coward. Was the middle Tennessee girls that held up L’s to Louisville when they beat them and then cried when they lost cowards? Where was y’all nasty ass comments then?!??
Kim Mulkey coached a bad tournament this year to be honest. Her coaching this whole damn tournament sucked. She let poor Hailey Van Lith get slaughtered
So, so happy they lost and we no longer have to deal with Mulkey, the LSU players, and LSU in general in the media. Put a bow on it and grow up. Let's hope Mulkey fades aeay quietly into the good night.
Follow up to an earlier post. Have you ever seen a person who plays in the center paint not be physical defending their space? Angel`s job is to move the other team out of her area so she can be successful. I am indifferent following this years NCAAW tournament. Players are trying to win. There is NO good and bad. I am reminded of a story Magic Johnson told about having Larry Bird over for lunch at his mons house. It came out that Larry Bird was his mons favorite player. Magic and Larry are friends.
We are from Baton Rouge Louisiana and its unfortunate to say even after the championship game won last year many of them are despised in BR, particularly Reese. Sad to say.
Kim Mulkey should be ashamed of herself for giving the middle finger when talking about Catlyn Clark, one of the absolute distastful things Ive ever seen in all of sports in all of history. Media confront her on that. Kim you owe the sports world an apology.
Iowa fan here. Told my dad before the game if they put Flau’jae on Clark iowa is in trouble. Talk about a happy surprise she wasn’t…. Also have become a fan of her. Jus a dawg and very well spoken
I feel people criticising Angel Reese over "having been through so much" at the 7:25 question (with answer at 7:43) fail to understand Angel's emotive reaction to her teammates's praises from 3:30 to 5:10 and those scheming commentators don't play the entire answer up to 8:35 where she indeed took it on the chin and moved on. We can clearly see how those superwomen showed class and gratitude all over this interview, especially when they wrap up on the impact of the game at 9:20. Unwarranted, undeserved hate seriously.
Hats off to Iowa. Clark was amazing, and played a great game. My only question was why did LSU head coach leave Van Lith on Clark? I still don't understand that one. 😲
Theres nobody that can guard Clark. When Iowa team is firing on all cylinders with play and 3s. That’s why Iowa won. They couldn’t even gaurd her last year too.
Hailey Van Lith should absolutely come back. She didn’t have a good year. She was great last year. She can improve next year before she goes to the WNBA.
Drama Queens going home!! Reese kind of brings on a lot of the things that get thrown her way. What goes around comes around. She needs to humble herself some. She is over-rated, 3rd best player on this team. Johnson is the true star of this team. Great game..best team won tonight. Clark is a beast!!
Lmfaooo... yesss Stazy. I couldn't agree more.. I'm sure, there's tons and tons of Tiger fans, who would love to have them...bottle them , label and put them away somewhere. These young ladies on both teams, you all show first class professional sportsman ship to your team members your opponents. The media is always stirring the pot to bring hate and bitterness to the teams, players, and coaches! My hat is off to both teams for their sportsmanship and not letting this unprofessional media to turn the game into some kind of war zone...they are the ones to provoking hate! Good job LSU and IOWA, this is the best example of how you represent the sport and to teach the next generation the values of sportsmanship!!
Angel is THAT girl. It hurts me to see her cry😢. She is tough, beautiful, and an athlete of all athletes. So proud of LSU! Plus I didn’t start watching the game because of Caitlyn… it was because of Angel and all of the tigers that had me in awe.
Exactly, she's been known but not popular enough to pull and hold the excitement the game brought without media using the trash talk everyone else does as part of the game until a young woman from Maryland brought attention to it the game. History always repeats itself. Taking and using another person's invention in this case clout to become more visible. Yeah I said it. All this underlying hatred of a young black young lady doesn't harbor that much hate unless there is a underlying reason.
I can tell by listening to Coach Mulkey, that she has a way with words. She is excellent at describing everything she talks about...I can only imagine how powerful her message is in the locker room.
Everyone keeps talking about HVL’s bad defence, but her offence was even worse. 2-10 from the field, 1-6 from three? She’s the starting pg and she had 1 assist with 2 turnovers 😭 meanwhile CC had 41 and 12…. this was a murder.
Honestly I enjoyed the first half so much.... I am not an LSU fan but I was mad that Angel was injured. Because it clearly changed the whole dynamic of the game.
Drama, drama, drama......you get hit when you get up in peoples faces the way this team did. Regular displays of poor sportsmanship invites nasty comments. You reap what you sow

@leemarie7724 Hello, are you still there? No words, found out you are what they were talking about. Cat got your tongue. Angel Reese and Caitlyn Clark are the same age, which means they have played against each other forever. Their trash talk was strictly basketball. If you made negative comments about them personally, instead of their game, you are the problem they have been talking about. Anybody with a keyboard is all of sudden a gangster, but wouldn't dare say it to the person
Kim mulkey refused to make in game adjustments and while Reese game to play for the injury the rest of the team took a while to start making shots. Hailey was left out to dry with this assignment and coach mulkey needs to apologize for that poor coaching effort. Had she studied West Virginia and how they got physical with Clark she would have found a better game plan.
