I watched the replay, multiple times. At first, it appeared to me that the defensive player had gone through like a hot knife through butter and that the offensive player missed a block, exposing the quarterback. Then I decided that the lineman's assignment had been to not block and run forward to provide a block for the intended receiver. Then I watched tired no. 76. He was rotated and saw the entire pass play. Good call. I guess that 76 thought he was playing under NFL rules which would require the ball carrier hitting a knee after physical contact.
he called and appologized. He said that he looked up and saw Dixon running with the ball and thought he had to get the ball. His coach suspended him as well.
When you’re in the zone you don’t make notice of a lot so it makes sense but all the hate from people is ridiculous. I’ve been carded in soccer before because I thought a ball was live and on instinct kicked it and the ref warned me and then I kicked it again thinking it was our kick because nobody told me what was going on and I got carded and ended up out the rest of the game so having somewhat of an idea of how it can be I can understand the confusion
@@practixally both of y’all are flat out wrong here. Did you notice how loud it was in that stadium? The lsu player obviously didn’t hear the ref blow the whistle. Players are always taught from a young age the game doesn’t stop until you hear the whistle. Simple as that.
@@FLINTMICHIGANMEGABOWL In college football, you don't have to be touched to be down. As soon as a knee hits the ground, the play is dead, so, no, that's bull. And his taunting and waving players to come get some afterward shows, also, that it was anything but a mistake.
Eric Matterson you're gonna feel dumb when you hear this, but #76 felt extremely bad and called the Wisconsin player later that night to apologize and say that he didn't know he was down.
Even if you buy that he didn't know he was down, the hit itself was dirty. He was clearly targeting the head/neck area of a player looking the other direction.
Rowgue51 the camera pans so that #76 is out of the shot so we have no proof that he saw that the Wisconsin player was down. You could see from the footage of #76 on the bench that he is disappointed, but not angry that he was thrown out of a game like most people. I'm just glad he was genuine enough to call this person to see if he was alright
parks Of course we don't know with 100% certainty. But there isn't a single piece of evidence that indicates he didn't, other than his excuse after the fact. Everything else indicates that he SHOULD have known the play was over, especially when taken all together. It seems like a pretty clear case of a guy letting his emotions get out of control and seizing on an opportunity that he felt would give him a plausible excuse for taking a cheap shot. The key piece of evidence being that he made no attempt to knock the ball out of the players hands even though it was being held out in front of him in one hand just begging to be knocked out. Instead he buried his helmet into the guy's chin. That isn't the action of a guy trying to make a play. It's the action of a guy that's pissed off and knows his team just lost so he's taking his frustration out on somebody.
Stupid, Josh Boutte. Just absolutely STUPID. You're mad because your team was about to lose in the final seconds, so after the game winning interception you go and deck the defender celebrating. And for all of you that are about to tell me that he didn't know the play was dead or didn't hear a whistle, look at the bottom right corner. One referee was already signaling the end of the play. Boutte knew damn well that was a late and dirty hit. It's OK to be frustrated by losing, but that...one game is probably all he might get, but he deserves a much longer shelving than that. I wouldn't mind at all if he misses the rest of the season. You can't do that, Josh. Shame on you, and shame on Les Miles for even trying to make excuses for it. There aren't any to be made. BTW: I'm a Georgia fan, and while I have no beef for the most part against LSU, this is intolerable.
I agree partially with you John, I agree what he did was dirty, he really should sit for 2-3 games, but I've seen tons of hits like that get ruled on that could have been unintentional. It will be up to LSU on how that want to handle that situation.
The taunting and waving people over to fight them was utterly pathetic. I forgot about this play but his name getting dragged through the mud was legitimized with that one incident. I know he text and apologized to the player but come on man
I was at this game. I knew then les wouldn't make it through the year. And knew Brandon Harris was not the guy. He literally scrambled to his left with absolutely no other defenders in the backfield, didn't set his feet, had 3 wide open recievers, and threw it straight to the damn wisconsin guy. Green Bay was fun tho
LSU touting how "wholesome" of a player the guy is and how he didn't see the play. YOU CAN SEE HIM TRASH TALKING AFTER THE HIT AND GETTING YANKED OFF THE FIELD BY HIS TEAMMATES.
I just read that les miles would review this hit and it's possible his player didn't know the play was over.....yeah right!!!! if this guy is not suspended for multiple games I will lose all respect for les miles....
Not making any excuses for the young man but if you read Josh Boutte lips while sitting the bench after the play was over he said that he didn't hear the whistle.
And if you observe him leaving the field, he's gesturing to a UW player, telling him to "bring it on." I have no doubt that once he got to the bench he started making excuses, but that's what a punk does. Finally, if did think the play was still live, why didn't he go for the loose ball after he hit Dixon? He knew the play was over.
Can someone explain this situation better? I don't know college rules as much as NFL rules but WIS picked the ball and was not touched when he hit the ground. I would assume that still makes him a fair target? At least form MY perspective. It seems as if WIS picked the ball off, the play was still alive (or under rules should still be alive) and WIS was not fully aware of the play and was just happy they won (or projected to win with kneeling the clock down) and Boutte hit Dixon to tackle him finally. Sure it was a HEAVY hit but it was in front of dixon, and no helmet to helmet contact was made. It seems more like it was only as awful as it was simply because Dixon was not paying attention. I am reading that some people said the play was whistled dead but I don't hear it in the video and under my perspective as to what I *think* the rules are as of now, the play normally wouldn't be called dead. Could someone who actually knows what happened completely respond about rules/what happened in play prior to hit?
He could have not seen him go down. Also, the whistle is sometimes hard to hear, especially in that loud of a stadium. I think it would have been illegal any way for a high hit.
I'm not buying that he didn't know he was down. That seems more like an excuse after the fact than a genuine belief. The guy that intercepted the ball was casually jogging toward the center of the field, not in any way looking like he was running the ball or attempting to advance the ball toward the goal line. He was also holding the ball out in front of him in one hand in what was clearly a celebratory fashion and not a ball carrying fashion. You can also clearly hear the whistles blowing and at least two referees clearly signaling that the play is dead at least two seconds before the dirty hit. It's also very clear that absolutely everyone else on both teams knows the player was down and the play is dead. Had the shit stain that laid on the cheap shot actually believed he was attempting to advance the ball he would have been going for the ball he was holding out in front of him, not looking to bury his facemask into the guy's chin. Then after he made the dirty hit he was trying desperately to taunt the other team into retaliating. It's also complete bogus that he didn't realize what was going on because he's an offensive lineman. If that were the case then the rest of the offensive line should have been there trying to get in on the tackle too. Especially considering the other offensive linemen were actually engaged in blocks and not just standing there in the middle of the field with literally the best view of the play possible.
Free 2b2t Doesn't matter it was a personal foul for targeting a clear head to head contact is a automatic ejection in any league. In college players are ruled down by touching the ground and it's clear that 76 hit him out of frustration.
For all you NFL only watchers in college football, when you hit the ground, the play is DEAD. So of course it was a flag. Y’all look embarrassing with these “didn’t touch the DB” comments.
Fined? In college? I mean, this hit did cost him any real shot at an NFL team. He got a quick look from the Browns, but he'll never play in the league.
does anybody know if he did that late hit on purpose or just thought it was NFL rules(catch a interception but if untouched, even fallen to the ground, means the ball is still live?)
Lmao you are just saying bullshit. LSU is not a dirty team, the team you should be focusing on is Alabama. They get away with targeting and dirty plays and cheap shots every year.
Was #14 down as soon as he caught the ball? No one from LSU touched him to be down by contact. I don't know for sure how that's ruled in college football.
The audio is too poor to really be definitive, but I can't hear a whistle whenever the ball gets turned over. If the dude didn't hear the whistle, and the cornerback wasn't touched down and immediately sprinted off like the ball was live, it's not unreasonable that he would think the ball was still live.
The only way I can think of why he would do that in any way was that he might have still been engaged with the defense or didn't see the interception happen to think that he wasn't down. But even then that hit was way dirty, I'm not trying to justify him in any way, just trying to give a young man the benefit of the doubt. Dirty hit, he deserves to be kicked off of the team if that was intentional.
All of the posts here supporting Josh Bouttes' hit on #14....I just don't know what to say. Even if there was a remote possibility he didn't know the play was blown dead, and most of us know the play was dead, THERE IS NEVER, NEVER, NEVER AN EXCUSE TO CLOTHESLINE ANY PLAYER!!!
I'm not sure what the rules are in college football but I'm assuming when a player is down the play is over. I didn't see why that hit was bad if nobody touched him after he fell when he caught the ball. Not a big college football fan but if that's a rule can someone clarify that for me?
Not sure why he received a flag from someone being tackled that wasn't down. He was never touched, therefore LSU had the right to tackle him. I didn't hear the whistle blow to call the play dead either. Anyone care to explain?
Play was not dead. Where is the problem? Nobody touched him before the hit. Giving yourself up opposing team has to touch you and he was running with the ball.
The LSU player was thrown out because either he didn't see the Wisconsin player go to the ground on the interception, where the play is automatically over with the crowd noise did not hear the ref's whistle....or he did in fact see him hit the ground and decided to knock the crap out of him anyway
+Redman456 Theat I wouldnt go that far...unless the dude doesnt regret what he did... he should miss the rest of this season though.. he couldve ended that guys career
I don't like seeing guys helping opponents up. You have to have a certain level of hatred for the people you're playing against to bring out a true level of competitiveness. But you also have to have enough respect for them to not be taking cheap shots.
+PimpMyGloin when you're an offensive lineman (like myself) you are down in the trenches fighting it out the whole game and you're not that aware of much of anything other than the guy in front of you. He probably didn't hear the whistle and reacted to the player who intercepted the ball and acted like he was returning it down field and hit him like any good lineman trying to protect would do.
+I_Am_Bigdog75 Gaming and if you watch him on the play he watches the QB throw the ball which means he was well aware of what happened. ..He was just stupid and pissed
