Mmhm. Fun for the memes, but bringing that in against blue-white control makes no sense. Sure, they can't bolt you, but they can absolutely sit back and counter/swords threats while Bob provides their pressure. I actually like Hex/Depths vs that deck, because Marit Lage could bait out removal and clear the way for an animate target, or vice-versa.

I absolutely think Bob is not a meme and 100% worth siding in here. As he mentioned there were 4 hits that really hurt him in his deck and as much as he was playing up the pain, realistically it needed to hit 2 of those 4 cards to really put him in the position he was. Just 1 and the extra card advantage probably wins him the game. With the cards he drew and in the order he drew them in there's a solid chance he does win this game without the 2 extra cards in his hand, but that's far from the average result here. I also think that people like to forget that some of Bob's early Pro Tour success involved playing 4 copies in a deck and also playing 4 Greater Gargadon.

I feel like it's due to it being released with the one ring and Bowmasters. People are so focused on the strength of these two cards and never really noticed how strong Palantir is

@@armin3582 that's fair... My line of thinking was that people should be a bit more familiar with it as a newer card from a set I feel had a decent amount of attention, but you're right that a lot of that is just attention on the One Ring and Bowmasters.

palantir is often a better library of alexandria (basically 100% to be better than library if you draw it after turn 2.) Severely underrated.

Yeah I was thinking that too. Think that LSV might've missed it too since he didn't mention it and didn't seem too concerned with casting Exhume into SoF with 3 open mana . Probably just a mutual blind spot.

Yeah, I get his reasoning but I think your take is more correct. This is a 9/10 reanimator deck, which is kind of insane given the lack of power.

Agreed. It seemed foolish, his deck was so good already, and Bob is just terrible in the deck, not just because of the 8 drops. You don't want to pay too much life for cards because you need to pay life for your reanimate spells, and if it's griselbrand, you need life to actually use it. Yes, LSV was on the wrong end of variance in terms of how much damage he took, but it wasn't that far off. When you have 5 7+ drops in your deck alongside a 6 and a 5, you're expected to lose 6 or more points of life if Bob stays in play for a few turns. The avg mana cost of the deck was 2. If it was just a steady 2 life a turn, it would already be debatable IMO whether that's worth it, though probably ok. However, it's definitely not that. It's very unpredictable and it's not that unlikely to just take 10+ over a couple turns and have multiple spells turned off. In one sense it was satisfying to see LSV get punished for the greed but it was also just kind of tragic to see this deck 1-1.

It's a combination of those things. For what it's worth, as somebody who loves white weenie in cube, I would certainly play eagles in my white aggro decks sometimes, but I wouldn't ever really be excited about it, and would leave it out of some decks. It seems okay in some of the decks which go a little bit wider and have mana crypt or sol ring or some way to get it out a little ahead of schedule, but it's just not a card that you're interested in for something like u/w control, and those are the decks that tend to appreciate land cyclers a lot more generally.
