Great video on the Powermaster starter! Within 20k miles I am on my 3rd oem ac delco starter (melted plastic solenoid), it is time I switch to this starter instead. Thanks for explaining it thoroughly
Good job man. I always see guys adding headers and complaining about slow (or non-starts)... And every time I'm like: Just swap with a heat-wrapped power master. Done!
My car also had the voltage problem and still does. It’ll show like 11 V on the dash for a little bit and then after a little bit, it’ll spike back up to the proper voltage.
This is my exact problem lol but mine always starts slow but gets way worse after the car is warmed up. to the point where sometimes it won’t even start after I get gas at a gas station.
Sounds like the starter is getting heat soaked like mine. After this time the power master starter has never slowed a bit and I also wrapped it with the heat tape.
I have an identical car and need to do the same thing. Same headers and my factory starter is a little slow, but not nearly as bad as yours, yet. Im also gonna run some larger gauge wire to help. Gotta fix my random p2135 first
Def consider the Powermaster, different gear ratio to help and designed for high heat. I would consider the bigger cables if this didnt work out but so far it hasnt been necessary
@@Austin.C surpisingly, even at full tension it wasnt long enough to hit the header but if i remember correctly i did take that thermal tape and wrap it and on this particular starter the location of where the wire connects to the starter is actually not at the top of the solenoid where the factory location is, it is actually on the side of the starter. If you google the powermaster starter you will see where it goes. So that extra 2 inches below the starter solenoid where it connects is enough to take up some of the length of the extension and keeps it clear from the headers.
I got this same starter for my 06 Z with kooks headers. I cannot for the life of me get the terminal leads to reach the starter terminal. Did you have to do any modification to the harness to get it to reach?
I did not have any issues with that, i did run that adapter plug which actually gave me a little more length. Have you checked to make sure the wiring harness/corregated tubing isnt pinched where the starter bolts?
Going through the same thing bro, how’s the car now ? Was it the alt or the starter or both ? I grabbed a power master starter and a mechman 170 amp alt, should cure this mf of electrical gremlins but curious in what helped you
Car has been great. Ill include a link to the video where i kinda covered what ended up happening if you are interested in watching too but basically the car had a heat soaked starter and it was original and was pretty much toast from florida heat and engine bay/header heat. Bought the power master and the car started way better. However, during this starter swap my alternator for some crazy insane reason stopped putting out and i went through hell to fix that. I replaced battery bc it was old and thought maybe bad cell, didnt fix. The local parts stores sell the alternator with a c5 voltage regulator and one of the pins (pin b) doesnt communicate with the alternator to computer for it to tell it to charge. Returned alternator, bought an OEM GM alternator bc thats the best answer without going nuts $ wise for aftermarket which i didnt really wana do. Bought gm oem from Rock Auto, paid them extra shipping to expedite and still didnt get the alternator anywhere near on time cause i dont think they had it. Put oem alternator on and problem has been solved. Sucks cause parts store alternator is cheaper with lifetime warranty. Rebuilder in dade city said he couldnt rebuild it bc they do not sell the proper voltage regulator needed for him to rebuild it properly, honest older gentleman All and all ik very happy with starter. Will upgrade battery cables at some point to something thicker which is a necessity on these, especially with the battery in the back. I’ll lyk how it goes with a power master matched with the 170 amp mechman. Also in Florida and seems I have a heat soaked starter and it made the old alt over work.
