One year in our Coleman LT 17B!
We are traveling in a one of a kind Coleman 17B. The 17B is the lowest priced RV in the market for its size. I tend to think of the 17B as a starter kit that owners can personalize to fit their own needs and tastes. Virtually every one is a “one of a kind” project. We have completed over 50 upgrades or modification on ours.

Get a bigger wall AC unit. It comes with the 5,000btu. Sell it and buy a 6,000btu or whatever fits that’s bigger btu. Also get a small fan to blow the cold air around

We installed a room divider curtain. This makes sleeping very comfortable. We also have Ryobi fans that work off of AC or batteries. they move the air around quite well. if needed. Thanks for your comment.

I am enjoying your videos and I can say they have been very helpful. We purchased a used 17B a couple of months ago and I immediately started searching videos for first time campers. Then I decided to get more specific and see if anyone had videos for the Coleman 17B. You have shared some great advice and tips which I have implemented. We took it out this past weekend for our first camping experience and it was quite enjoyable and I learned a lot. We head out again soon and I expect I will learn more each time. I can't wait to make some of the upgrades mentioned in this video. I enjoy the projects this camper provides. I hope your channel continues to grow.

Oh, and which remote lock did you go with? I am intriqued by that...........
@funinourrv
@funinourrv 2 месяца назад
I am not sure what you mean by "remote". If you are talking about the Keyless, combination lock, we just bought the one that advertised the best customer support. If you go to Amazon (Where we but virtually everything,) you will see that it appears that most of the locks seem to be made by the same company with minor changes with stickers or colors. We never use the remote fobs to open or lock the doors. We just use the combination. And we love it BTW. If I can fine the actual name of the seller, I will post it here for you. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-DEyAqw4jczo.htmlsi=3b7h8xQb17Fpv356

WE bought the "Defabee" brand door lock, but the link we used is not longer valid. (This is why I typically don't include links. They change all the time. If you google "RV Door lock combination key pad" or something like that, you will see dozens of choices.

RU-vid bringing me to your door. I have a Coleman Northern Spirit 17FB, basically looks like its swapped your table and bathroom. Been fun with the little trailer. We replaced our mattress, got a 10 in foam from Amazon and cut it down. Works well but too high to crawl into. Put scissor jacks on all 4 corners, new 10 speed Maxi style fan in the bathroom and a 2 6v batteries. Enjoy your travels.

Thank you for the comment. That sounds much like the 17R. It is like the 17B, but it has a much better floor plan. The table is on the other side and it looks nice. We have a video for it on our Channel.

Tell me more about this fan. Is it like the Maxxair 004000, or one of their other products? How was it installed, etc.?

@@funinourrv Guessing RU-vid is not liking the product link Im putting in here. apologies if it pops up. I purchased it from a Canadian store very similar to Harbour Freight as they bring in special buys at cheaper prices then online. i can see it identically on the USA Amazon site , RVLOVENT RV Roof Vent Fan 12V Auto Remote Control 14'' inch 10 Speed (Smoke), $159.88. Easy install except for the sealant on the rubber membrane roof, that stuff did not want to come off easily. Ended up using the old Army tried and true of a spray bottle of gas and many clean rags. I also installed a DROK Boost Buck Converter 9V-36V to 12V 5A 60W as some people report that the trailer voltages can be a problem with the fan electronic controllers. Compared to the MaxxAir, it is a cheaper unit but compared to the original white trailer fan, night and day difference. So quiet, easily 2x more powerful.

What is the 'TV Sign' upgrade??
@funinourrv
@funinourrv 2 месяца назад
When we first got our RV we thought that renting it was a good idea. The sign was there to remind renters to lock it in place before driving down the road. BTW- After renting it twice we realized that renting it was a terrible idea. Now the sign is there to remind kids and grand kids to lock it in place.

Do you still like your Coleman LT 17B? I'm thinking of getting a LT 17R.

We love it. Sure, it has some short comings, and we occasionally dream about what our next rig will be, but it serves us quite well. We have two short trips planned for this month. Over the winter we installed a few upgrades and we are excited to try them out. This is one we can already tell is going to be a handy decision. We installed it just a little over a week ago. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-oUjnkM9lo_E.html We wish the 17R had been an option when we bought out 17B.

@@darthslackus499 You are correct about the inconsistent quality. There are little things I wish they had done better or al all. Most of them were easy upgrades and repairs. We haven't spent a dime on anything other than the upgrades we choose to do. We just back this afternoon from a trip down to the coast.WE didn't have any trouble with the rv. (But the mosquitos were terrible. ) The video will be out in a couple of days.

We have learned so many things with your videos, so thanks! I have a question: We can’t figure out the fridge! Does it only run off battery? When we are all set up at camp site we have to carry a battery charger to keep the fridge running. What are we missing? We have a 2023 17B.
@funinourrv
@funinourrv Год назад
The Battery is 12 volts and runs off the battery, yes. Typically, if you are NOT connected to a shoreline, a fully charged battery should power it for about 12 hours with no problem, with nothing else running. When you are camped and connected to a shoreline, it should run forever. The shoreline should automatically be constantly charging the battery. If your shoreline doesn't keep your fridge running indefinitely, you might have a problem. There are several things that might be the issue. I AM NOT A TRAINED TECHNICIAN. There is a junction box, attached to the frame, underneath. These connections, especially the ground can become loose. You might also check your fuses. Check your battery connections. But the shoreline should be constantly charging your battery, and thereby running your fridge. i have Googled the question and most pages say to check all your fuses and circuit breakers. (The panel for the 17B is under the lower bunk.)

The front stabilizers you installed. Have you had any ground clearance issues on road to driveway transitions?
@funinourrv
@funinourrv Год назад
That is a valid question and one I pondered, but after installing them I realized that the foot of the tongue jack would have to hit the ground long before the front stabilizers would.

@funinourrv I was thinking the same thing. I thought about getting those pyramid looking stands. That you turn the handle and the little circular thing goes up, but then I would have to store them. In a trailer with limited storage space already. So I will do the install. Thanks for the feedback. Happy travels and have a wonderful blessed day!!!

These inexpensive campers are really not for four season living. You might get 6 months of comfortable living every year. They are poorly insulated, for extreme temperatures, both high temps, and low temps. A 5k btu ac unit would work in a bedroom the size of that rv, because a house has better insulation, but the insulation isn't enough to maintain the temperature in this rv. It's not for permanent living. Thor Industries is the parent company of Coleman, and they sell this same floorplan across many of their brands, and the quality is the same across most of them Airstream is their prestige brand, so I would expect the quality to be better in those, but not in their low priced lines.
@funinourrv
@funinourrv 4 месяца назад
You are absolutely correct. I tell people that they are getting a "kit" with a 17B that you can somewhat customize to your needs but you will never have something like a rig that you would pay several times more. The Coleman 17 series comes with several short comings, but what would you expect for the cheapest, entry level RV of that size. After over 40 up grades I still have several things on my list to add, as well as several things to fix. But having said that, we are enjoying the heck out of our Coleman. Just today, March 2, we have been de-winterizing our 17B and we are headed to the Texas coast tomorrow. While we were bringing the rig home to set up and stocking for the coming year and season, we were talking about what out next RV will be like. Our 17B is helping us learn about what we want, and don't want, in a camper. Coleman RVs are made by Dutchman. And yes, Thor owns Dutchman, JayCo , Keystone, and a host of other brands, as well as AirStream. www.thorindustries.com/history
@funinourrv
@funinourrv 4 месяца назад
BTW- While 6 months is probably the best average of what you can expect out of a 17B, Since we are in Texas, we have been able to get 9 months out of the year...If you don't count the a month or two so you might not want to go out because it is hot. It isn't because the AC can't handle it, you just don;t want to go hiking or getting out when it is 106 degrees.
