PART ONE IN THIS KNIFES JOURNEY IN THE GAUNTLET. HANDLING THIS KNIFE I FOUND IT TO BE VERY BALANCED AND EASY TO CONTROL. EDGE RETENTION IS AS ALWAYS WITH LT WRIGHT UNMATCHED. THIS BLADE THAT CAN SERVE AS A MAIN BLADE ONLY COST $75 WITHOUT SHEATH $105 WITH THAT IN MY MIND MAKES THIS A BUDGET BLADE

Chris, will you ever be able to do a review of the LT Wright Knives Wines Bushcraft Hunter please? there are only 2 videos about this and none of them get into any sort of testing. thank you

Nice video.....I'm looking for one but they all seem to be saber grind......and I prefer convex or flat...

I understand that your doing a knife test but here is an idea that I've never seen anyone try as far as a bush craft skill. When I lived in OR and WA and worked in the forest the lumberjacks used to use lightweight nylon wedges when felling trees. Arborist still use them. They are far lighter than an axe or hatchet and split wood better than a knife.' If you were to drive in a nylon wedge while your knife is still in the wood, then baton the wedge, it would free the knife and split the wood with far less energy expended, be safer, and give less wear to your gear than batoning a knife.

Great job Will. I really like these kind of "Kephartish" designs. Just very functional.

That super tough wood you're using is similar to the stuff we get in Australia, except that wood you have has super straight grain compared to our stuff. I think Australian firewood comes from hell... Great review. The knife looks like a nice, basic design.
@protoyz7405
@protoyz7405 9 лет назад
from my understanding batoning has not much to do with edge retention. correct me if i am wrong but the actually edge will only touch the wood when u sink in the secondary bevel until the wedge shape of the blade actually starts to split the wood, without the edge touching it. batoning is more of a vertical and lateral stress test(if there are any knots). so in my opinion a better edge retention test would be making 10 feathersticks.

That 'super tough oak' is basically the wood we get in Australia, except that wood you're using has a relatively straight grain. I think our wood comes from hell... Nice review, it looks like a nice, simple design that works.

The pricing is nice BUT I sure would like to see some of their flagship knives like the GNS in 1075&1095 with the same price points....I don't understand why they wouldn't want to make more money? Heck these things can't stay in stock, could ya imagine a JessMuk or Sospes hint hint😉 in 1095 say for $100-$120. Seems silly not to make um, there is a buttload of common folk who used to spend their money on whatever Schrade you guys approved of. Those same folks still buy stuff but the $200-$260 knives are just not in their reach, this is obvious considering the sales on the HC. BUT it still is freaking cool that a company like LT, DID AND DOES have a budget friendly knife....here is to hoping for more😉

great tip on stropping with the back of the LT sheath, i own a saber GNS, so ill try it out. by the way, ive always stropped my blade with just leather, never used compound. is the the compound really worth it? does it have a considerable advantage or no?

Say Heah, I believe both LTWK and BHK use Peter's Heat and Treat. Infact alot of Top Companies do, Peter's Heat and Treat also Cryo Treats the Knives. Also my new Customs were Tempered by Peter's Heat and Treat, and so far my new Customs commisioned by William Collins are my Fav's. I mean it, I know because I like knives and I have a few. But William Collins did me right. With my (2) Customs, My 24" Council Wood Craft Pack Axe and my Agawa Canyon 21 Boreal Saw, and my Cold Steel Ultimate Hunter Folder, and my Gerber Multi Tool,, is starting to be my Go To Set. Infact since Thanksgiving, it's been on all our weekenders. Ofcource I lick and choose, because sometimes I scout out new areas, so out of my set, I have all I need. I posted them on my Google Plus. Dilly, Dilly.,,.p

Birch bark may be the only natural tinder that is better than Fatwood. Anyone disagree? This knife is perfect for preparing either tinder for a quick and easy fire, which is a big plus for bushcrafters, or just an over night camping trip.

I bought one and I'm very happy with it. This makes the third LT Wright knife I have. It's 1075 steel but it seems to hold a edge more like 1095 (must be the heat treat). A quick strop after heavy use and it's hair shaving sharp again. Worth every penny.
@jaredgranger4180

I would assume that battoning would not have any effect on the edge of the knife. as soon as the knife enters the wood .24" there is no contact with the edge

Hi Will. love ur channel. so after watching this video I ordered the knife. I'm so disappointed with the knife. I understand it's supposed to be a budget friendly knife but the grind looks like it was done by a 3 year old. The way you and Chris talk about lt. wright I expected better.

I own the Condor Kephart and the LT Wright Bushcrafter HC. The LT Wright seems to hold it's edge longer for me. I know that's not any kind of scientific evaluation but it's what I've experienced. Hope that helps answer you question.

@JunkyardFox
@JunkyardFox 9 лет назад
real metis i own the condor kephart and its a decent knife, was my main belt knife for 6 months but i dont know whether its the 1075 steel or their heat treat but it loses an edge very quickly. after a good two steady days outdoors, it needs to be sharpened, i ended up replacing it with another blade. it does sharpen very easily, ill give it that, but yeah, cant hold an edge long, least mine doesnt.
