This isn't my Roadmaster, it's another owned by a friend. Car was pulling timing during this run so it's a little down on power. Tune isn't finished but it still hauls azz for a 2 ton barge. Will have to try again in the future, hopefully with better traction too. This happened somewhere in Mexico.
Details on the car:
1996 Roadmaster Sedan nicknamed Grandpa
Factory LT1 engine
No emissions
Unported aluminum heads from a F-body
Increased compression ratio of 11.3:1
Summit long tube headers
2.5" exhaust with Flowmaster 40s
Homemade CAI (hockey puck, 3.5" alum pipe, coupler, spectre filter in stock airbox after swiss cheesing)
3.73 gears and Yukon posi
93 oct tune with nerfed timing
I'm guessing somewhere around 270-280whp with the tune straightened out. Less than $1k into the car (including itself) at this time. We got the diff and exhaust from the junkyard for $150.
The voice in the background is another friend in the backseat. His GPS recorded a max of 103 so I think the speedometer is slightly off (1-2mph).
Music is Dvorak Polka from Incompetech.

If it wasn’t for that engine, 14 seconds would’ve been 0-60. For a car of that size and stature that’s impressive.

The lt1 is a detuned corvette engine. My uncle has a caprice wagon with an lt1. It doesn’t look fast but sheesh that thing is quick. 0-60 in 6 seconds💨💨

Up to 50 mph till the first shift into 2nd! I own a '95 RM Limited with only 68k Miles. Still virgin :) GM downplayed the real hp to keep distance to the Corvette. Torque is awesome anyway! And in this vid, downhill helps. LOL

I've got a '94 Fleetwood with 3.73's and a 93 octane performance tune. That's it..and even with the wide tires on the Impala SS wheels, it chirps 2nd gear. A good tune is WELL worth the money! These cars are awesome sleepers.
@garymartin7842
@garymartin7842 3 года назад
That's cool, I had a '95 Fleetwood from 2002 to 2008, quick sleepers are a blast, especially when they're quiet. I bought my Impala SS new in '94 not knowing they would build more in 95-96.. I still have it with a total of 82k miles.

I just got a 94 Buick Roadmaster and I'm loving every bit of it. Mine came with the tow package so I have 2.93 differential. I was just about to look up the size of the differential it normally comes with and I saw your video. Which interned answers my question thanks. Oh yeah and your car's badass man!

You gotta love Detroit for making sleepers! You don’t see any videos for Japanese or European sleepers! The Lincoln Mark VIII with the Cobra motors, the Buick Regal G bodies with the 3800 Supercharged V-6 you can easily get 400 HP out of, the Crown Vics and Caprice off lease Police Interceptors, and the Roadmasters but to name a few! The Pontiac Firehawk wasn’t really a sleeper even though it would tear up a Corvette for $15,000 less.

The Corvette LT1 was not put in there for performance. It was put in there for torque. It was part of the towing package offered on the final year Roadmaster wagons. You got a raised rear ride height, heavy duty rear axle, and the Corvette engine. For towing of course. Not that...any...uhhhh...racing is condoned. Of course.
@JunkRacecars
@JunkRacecars 3 года назад
Thankfully, GM's idea of detuning an engine is by choking the intake and exhaust systems. The heads/cam are different, but the top end performs identically to the Corvette and F-body motors when the mods go on. And the tow pack isn't really worth it imo. Clutch fan robs power and makes the car a bitch to work on. The rear gearing is still too long. The only real benefit is the series 3 posi, but it's a crappy Auburn unit that'll get blown out anyway.

NO WAY, @ 14.5, your doing triple digits. 14 seconds or less, YES. In '96 I had a brand new ROADMASTER, fully equipped, ASTROROOF, & trailer tow package, containing a more aggressive rear axle ratio, & posi. I couldn't achieve that goal.
@JunkRacecars
@JunkRacecars 5 лет назад
This is a sedan which weighs about 400lb less curb and also has a bunch more weight ripped out. It's also modified with 3.73's and a 1" shorter tire. The tow pack cars came with 2.93 or 3.08 which is still super long and sluggish.

Doesn't look like Mexico, I saw a 45 MPH road sign. Doesn't Mexico have speed limits in metric? LOL! That is a super car! We own a 1996 Caprice with LT1, mostly stock, except for manufacture's upgrades. I had the original GM labeled Bilstein shocks replaced with Bilstein shocks. Michelin or Continental high performance tires will solve your tire spin at the start of the acceleration run. I believe our Caprice is governed out at about 110 MPH which is probably true for this Roadmaster. The Caprice with LT1 is a nice road travel car, great for driving long distances.

I have a 93 do u think I can run headers. with k&n intake and a chip on a l05 350 motor I wanna put some vortex heads on it with. a 4:10 ratio if it will work
@JunkRacecars
@JunkRacecars 7 лет назад
Yeah, the exhaust is pretty much the same between LT1 and L05/3 motors. The headers on this car are Summit G9001 which are actually for a Gen 1 SBC. They are not D-port like the LT1 heads but they fit and are cheap. The Vortec heads will definitely give you a power bump but the stock intake and cam will still hold you back. You also won't be able to run nearly as much compression as the LT1, but the gear would make it feel quick. If modding the L05 proves to be too expensive, I'd consider LT1 swapping as they are cheap and make decent power with less work.
