I never understood how so powerful a voice could fade out of the public eye. I always thought she was amazing. Saw her in Halifax once. It was a big thrill for me.
That voice just amazes me and the song Still stand up I can't believe she didn't become incredibly popular worldwide I get goosebumps every time I hear her sing
This was shot in Québec City, at the Agora, a nice outdoor venue. I was lucky enough to be there on the night they shot this video, and it was a great experience - not to mention an awesome concert. She was at the peak of her popularity. I miss her !
I think Luba was so underrated. Especially when you hear the pop songs coming out today. She really had such a great voice.. And good songs.. We need more of that again.
She was the total package. Voice of a Angel and gorgeous as heck. Her career should have exploded bigger than it did. Capitol Records was the reason why it didn't. They really missed the mark with her.
This is my favourite Luba song...it was a huge hit in Canada and was always played on Video Hits (with Samantha Taylor) and Good Rockin' Tonight (with Terry David Mulligan)...wonderful music from the '80's...with a Canadian flair!
Videos from that era ... I guess no sense in hoping there's an HQ version out there somewhere? Luba was my favourite female singer back in the day... and she's still fabulous (new album "Icon" is in iTunes now!)
She was a very pretty woman, she had an incredible voice.Only two tunes that i'm familiar with, this one of course and little salvation.I know for a fact she was Canadian possibly out of toronto but never did hear anything else by her or even if she's still around??
Luba's "Between the Earth & Sky" was one of my favorite all-time albums. That kind of enthusiasm and energy is phenomenal, and really does live on. I didn't hear the same energy in her later music ... but then ... who knows? Seasons do change... Thank you Luba, for the amazing energy you injected into those early pieces. A true gift...
@ marc80s 7 years ago "For someone who started out being marketed as a "Canadian Cyndi Lauper", Luba sure metamorphosed quickly into a "Canadian Stevie Nicks". Great music, though." I would venture a Canadian Annie Lennox. Wish she was still making music.
What about Neil Young, The Guess Who, The Band, April Wine, Rush, Max Webster, Streetheart, Ian Thomas Band, Zon, FM, Mat Mayes and El Torpedo, Big Wreck, Big Sugar, Rheostatics, Our Lady Peace, I Mother Earth, Triumph, Billy Talent, Trooper, Saga, Gordon Lightfoot, BTO, Harlequin, Honeymoon Suite, Bush, Idle Eyes, Chilliwack, The Headpins, Crowbar, Five Man Electrical Band, Frozen Ghost, Sheriff, Kings X, Nickelback, Northern Pikes, Steppenwolf, Stampeders, Stonebolt, Toronto, etc, etc wink!
I have always loved this womans voice. I actually remember when I bought this album on a cassette tape ( lol ) when it was first released. The song ''Young Guns" is one of my faves, esp with her voice.
"I know it isn't right I shouldn't have to fight For my vindication But I won't take the blame" When you are slandered behind your back, it is like being murdered. When you are murdered others must get justice for you. When you are slandered behind your back, others who hear the slander must tell you. AWESOME SONG
@Ruhlmann1 ...Preaching to the choir man... She is gorgeous, has a great voice... 't's all a matter of marketing... She's sooo underated... 'Just love her, she's GREAT,period!!!...
I with my hand in the air You with your suspicions swear Guilt by association There is no justification No reason at all When you point the finger I take the fall I have walked the road With no deviation (always innocent) Now I feel the sting Of your accusation (always innocent) I and a thousand alibis Ready to try and verify My innocence is all I have No justification But it's always the same When you point the finger I take the blame Repeat chorus I know it isn't right I shouldn't have to fight For my vindication But I won't take the blame No more Repeat chorus I'm innocent Always innocent Fade to close
Thanks for sharing this great video and superb song by the wonderfully talented Luba!! I haven't seen this video since I saw it on a video show when it came out in later 1986.What great memories and the 80's will always be the best decade all around!!
In my top #1.. Nothing and nobody is more STELLAR then Luba :) .. A voice that stops souls dead in their tracks, I saw first hand many times over and over again at Ontario Place Forum in sound checks alone... A pure and true class act :) Heart ... Always !
I had heard that she was so shy at interviews, etc., but as we see here, she put herself into another gear once she got on stage in front of her fans ❤🇨🇦
Excellent post! I saw Luba with Brian Adams during the Reckless tour. He kicked ass that night and so did she. Every bit as good as he was. What a great show!!
Yeah definitely in my Top3 of best Canadian female vocalist. Too bad she desappeared from the music scene few years ago. Amanda Marshall is another great great voice we had here in Canada but she also desappeared after 3 amazing albums. Where are they now?
Over 25 years ago I had the pleasure of meeting this band. While they were recording their first record I got to listen to their demo's. I was then and now a big fan. I remember all the members being really nice and friendly. Luba was really shy but was always friendly when she came into the store. All the best to this band.
You're more than welcome to think of all them, if you want to, and you have the time. There's a lot of talent there, and I wouldn't suggest otherwise. But, I'll keep to my own preferences, thankyou very much. ^_^
I always wondered if this was written about her husband...I read an article that they divorced because he was abusive. If so, that explains both songs emotions. Everytime I see your picture was about her father's death.
