Don’t forget to lubricate the moving part of the contacts. (Cam/heel and pivots) Great to see the next generation doing this work. I can remember doing this same thing back in the 1950s and have enjoyed it ever since. You have started something you will get great enjoyment from. Keep it up.

Nice job Blair, thanks for the kind words about Old Iron Engineers. I also use a blaster for my magnetos, but I use fine glass beads. It gives a good finish but it’s a lot of work, the bearings have to be completely removed & all the little screw holes have to be cleaned out carefully afterwards, you really don’t want abrasives left in there. You could try some polish on the cap, it certainly wouldn’t do any harm, but it looks great anyway, I’ve even known people use black boot polish. You can actually get the round metal plate, that holds the points assembly, out if you want, but it’s a bit fiddly. I probably would’ve said to take the drive sprocket off so you could service the drive end bearing, but that new grease will work it’s way in. The shims are there to adjust “end float” (the amount of movement back & forth on the shaft). Most mags are set to zero end float, which can be a very fiddly process, but as you haven’t changed anything it’ll be fine. Great job

You did a great job on this magneto and also a great tutorial. To get that top cover shiny , use car polish and a dremel polishing tool.

Nice job! I recently restored my Lister D As well and i also rebuilt my magneto. I actually sand blasted the body of my magneto. I also sanded the cover but sprayed mine black and it seems to give a nice gloss. If i may ask. Are you on Facebook? Would like to share the restoration on mine with you.
