I’ve been running this oil for 30 years. I run it in dirt bikes, saws, and weed eaters. I have never had an engine failure with it. It is the best bang for the buck oil period.
I bought a gallon of Lucas about 6 months ago. It is certainly priced right and seems to work well. Now I know for sure it’s working as designed and a good deal for the price. Thank you
Agreed. I’ve tried everything and keep coming back to Red Armor 40:1 with 90octane rec fuel. No carbon, great protection, and it’s available everywhere.
Yea I tore down a 026 I bought with low compression that run the Lucas it's whole life and the carbon build was was bad. It actually scored the piston a bit so it will get Bell Ray run though it from here in out after the piston kit gets here. Good test thanks for sharing.
It’s pretty much a group 2 oil with some group 3 “synthetic” to call it semi synthetic. Likely no group 4 or 5 oils present and that’s why she burns a little dirtier than other oils especially the premix bike oils
Hi Richard I echo many here and offer you my thanks for this oil test project. Bike oil definitely seems the way to go. Having searched,it seems the HP2 is not available in Europe, at least not that i can find. A motorcycle page did say that Honda HP2 is the same oil as Mobil MX2T oil,but struggling to find that either. So,can I, request some Castrol products to add to the comparisons please. It seems they do several versions of their Power 1 product-: Castrol Power 1 Castrol Power 1 Racing Castrol Power 1 RS Castrol Power 1 A747 I don't know about differences and specs between them, but if they match up to the Honda HP2/ Mobil MX2T oils then availability worldwide would easier for everyone. Love the channel and your dedication to this topic.

Hello Richard, this is what I call a great video. Not just talk, but showing results with a teardown. There were a lot of numbers being said so I am asking for your input clearly. I just received my Amsoil order of Saber. I run mainly Stihl with some Echo product. What ratio do you recommend with the Saber. They say it can do fine at 100:1. Please give me your recommendations or the Saber ratio and if using the Lucas what ratio would you recommend? If other’s who use these have input too, please respond. Richard, it is your ratios which I am primarily wanting to run since you do tear-downs on the product evaluations. Thank you.
What kind of 2-stroke oil do you prefer for air-cooled garden equipment? The highly viscous that makes bloob bloob in the bottle when you shake it or the low viscous that poors out like water? 😉
I have a bottle of redline all sport I can donate if you want to test it. I bought a bottle, but I already have enough Lucas for my scooter to last 5,000 miles.
Lucas is NOT FD rated. Lucas CLAIMS that the oil MEETS FD standards but has not paid the money to have it actually tested. However, I use it and like it for the price.
Whew that's skinny. The tree company I work for part time ran it for years at 80:1. I did see some piston skirt wear, long term, so we bumped it up to 50:1. For what it's worth.
@@richardflagg3084 I must admit I was nervous at first. But I'd been using Amsoil products for years before I bought the trimmer, and they say right on the face of the bottle label it can be used at 100:1. So, I trusted them.
Thank's your oil test are the best source of info on what is often a hotly debated topic , as for Lucas I've never been disapointed with their products
Been running this lucas oi in snowmobiles, evinrude outboards, chainsaws and ice augers. It a good idle, clean at idle. I've gone through about 40 gallons of saber in my chainsaws over the past 18 month. Back in February at 30 below zero, the Saber wouldn't even pour from a jug. The lucas did. Never ran saber is my oil injection snowmobiles, because I was afraid it would strip the plastic oil injector gears. Saber doesn't burn that clean in cold temps either. Again this is after 40 gallons of the stuff. I've since decided to run the lucas in everything.
Very interesting Richard. I like these oil comparisons. That saw sounds amazing! I was watching on my phone so it’s hard to tell but that bottom ring on intake side looked like a crack starting on bottom side. Thanks again for sharing
Very interesting..as always...have got to get some saber..the maxima formula k2 once mixed kibda looks scary but tan good..and belray...havent tryed hp2 yet
Looks way better than a couple of the other FD OPE oils👍🏻 haven't used it and don't see myself buying it with the much better options available but wouldn't be afraid to use it if nothing else was easily available.
I am truly enjoying your oil testing videos, have learned a lot and Thank You! I have a couple friends who strongly recommend Optic 2, do you know much about it, torn down a saw that has been running it?
hello richard very interesting video as d'habidude, I admire how you disassemble the saws so quickly, I would need a whole day still to have the habidude l (semi-synthetic oil with more viscocity than 100% synthesis when you think? can give you a try with aspen 2 pre-mixed good luck, I encourage you and I say bravo from France
I’ve been running the regular Stihl oil the last 15 years I bet here in Canada which is Castrol oil. It says Castrol right on back of the bottle. My dads been running that oil for longer then me. Never any problems and we never ever lost an engine. I’m wondering if it’s different the the Stihl oil in the US? Now that being said I’m sure it’s not the best oil haha.
I use motul 900 in my husqvarna saws for years and cut a lot of wood never had a problem one with them they never had broke down yet had really good results with it . Gary in California cut nothing but oak trees
I've run this for about 10 yrs now at 45:1 does a great job. One thing ive noticed is the traveling effect it has which unfortunately makes equipment attract more dirt but outside of the carb, intake manifold etc will have an oil film that attracts dust etc.
Interesting. I have contemplated going Saber at 40:1. I need to price it in comparison to the Red Armor. I have heard about it but never researched it. Thanks again for another great video!
This oil is what I used to run in my old 460 rancher for 8yrs or so I had it.. only oil I could buy locally that wasn't some no-name brand. Think it was like $12/qt then which was 2x the price of the no-name stuff.. I've taken to ordering oils online now and running 32:1 instead of 50:1
Thank you Richard for this Lucas run tear down. I think over time the carbon build up will show heavy with this oil. Unless you run the snot out of it for long periods of time which a non proho will do. Better than swamp water at 50:1, but just can’t beat the bike oils and Saber at 40:1. I don’t see why AMSOIL keeps bragging about 100:1 when nobody I know who knows anything about power saws does something like that on a good saw. I might sacrifice my little Shindaiwa 300 someday, but I hate the unnecessary punishment to any chainsaw. Well , maybe some of them off color clones.😉
Same here; I always have gallons of it for my sleds, so I use it in the summer too. It doesn’t quite have the same scent as SuperTechniplate or Castor, but of course it gets the job done.
Last 8 months I've been mixing 6.4 oz of Sabre with 2.6 oz of Red Armor 8oz total makes 40/1. So far everything runs fantastic but no chain saws just trimmers edgers blowers hedge trimmers get Aspen canned gas because they sit a lot 👍👍
Thanks Richard, my brother and me switched from Stihl Premium last year to this Lucas, Do you think it’s considerably better than Stihl oil or would it be worth switching to Sabre? I really appreciate your content.
I really enjoy a good mix oil video, and you make a good one for sure. Would like to see you do one on Dumonde DPT. It's what I run in my saws at 32:1 no problems yet. I would like to see how it sracks up against the Honda oil. Honda hp2 has got me wondering. Thank you for these videos.
Have used this for years in my ice augers, have ran a bottle or 2 in saws when i run out of saber since its only available at a few places where i am and nothing is near by unfortunately but things have ran the lucas semi synthetic in over the years haven't had engine failures even in saws but i do lean to then saber at 75:1 to vs luacs 40:1, availability is biggest issue for around here though
I would Love to see you test a few TCW3 low ash boat oils this way Richard because alot of guys swear that they work well. Maybe you could dispel some myths👍
Very interesting video as always, i went with MAXIMA K2 issue is expense so far. but i did find Chaparral Motorsports if you buy two 64oz jugs the shipping is free so seventy seven bucks total
Understanding that you are already putting a ton of time and effort into these oil videos, I wonder I it would be informative to pick one or two of the better oils (like the Honda maybe) and run it in a seedeater or blower for all summer - then see what that looks like. Just a thought. Thanks for all the free ice cream!
Richard I have been trying to keep up with these oil tests you’ve been doing. I find them to be very helpful and provide much needed insight into how well our oils are working for us. I do however have a question and that is have you ever tried any tests that involve Marvel Mystery Oil in the 2 cycle gas mix? I’ve run that stuff in every small gasoline engine I own for more than 35 years with great results at least on the side of staying out of a repair shop. My curiosity at this point is what would be the result in the case of some of these products that have produced less than desirable results in your tests or would it maybe create more carbon? or perhaps reduce carbon deposits? Produce more or less sheen? Honestly I’ve had such good results for so long now that I have to believe it has some positive effects on carburetors and internals. Thanks for the videos and the insight you’re providing here!
Richard, after all of the oil test i have decided i am going to try the saber. Just received a quart today from Amazon. I thank you for all the information you have provided for all of us. Looking forward to the next video. Have a good weekend.
Supplement to my previous poston Lucas oil....I just looked up the Oil Report done by Blackstone Labratories on Lucas 5w-30 and its even worse than I thought. Its got a ton of Sodium at 272 where the Universal average is 38 and has ZERO, thats 0 molybdenum. The average is 77. Lucas has none of it.
LUCAS OIL is NG, someone did a complete lab analysis on it and I think it came in dead last, had very little of the critical addidtives package which contain the important stuff like friction modifiers, lubricity & viscosity aids, boron, phosphorus, zink (ZDDP) etc. The Universal Averages were terribly low as a comparitor. Walmart & Amazon oil beat it by quite a bit as I remember. I was so pissed when I found out bc I've used a lot of there products. Mobil 1 did not do too well either, or at least not as good as the hype conveys. Mind you the lab analysis was done on conventional motor oils, not on two stroke oil but I dont trust Lucas after the lab results were made known. I was told they put there money into markering, labels, containers & sponsers...not into the base oil, the stuff in the bottle.
All that and then you come out and say it wasn't even the 2 cycle oil being tested, lol. Lucas semi-synthetic is a good oil for a great price and their motor oil has zero to do with it.
You must be new to the channel because he has tested the Stihl Ultra (better known as pond water) several times. It runs dirty and smells like burned plastic.
Is your chainsaw ported? because if this is not the case, it is not recommended to use 1:40, putting more oil in the mixture will clog the engine more quickly. It's 1:50 as the manufacturer says.
I've tested most all of the oils chainsaw manufacturers sell and at 50:1 they only give modest lubrication in the crankcase. 50:1 is fine for upper cylinder lubrication and to meet emissions requirements. 40:1 will not clog spark arrestors or fowl out a plug. It's only 0.6oz more oil per gallon for 40:1.
