46:14 Kudos again Kyle for being out there getting it done. The Model 3 comparative range test is indicative of SOMETHING. Indicative of what isn’t known. For the experimental results to be meaningful, the experiment must be repeated 10 or 20 times, THEN look at the results. I know that the team’s background isn’t engineering but leans more to the journalistic side but what the team is doing is reporting on engineering subject matter more than most outlets. It wouldn’t hurt to employ at staff engineer if you can afford it. You have access to the university. Maybe you can pay one of the engineering professors to consult on an hourly basis when you have an idea so that you can know how to proceed. Then after compiling info for a story, review with your engineering consultant so that you will know when you are ready to announce something. Keep up the good work.
Tom is 100% correct as I’ve seen it numerous times from MA to FL. People charge to 100% because it is free and they value wait time at $0. At 85%, price should increase to $1/kW or more. Or, charge a very high price per minute.
VW Canada is currently giving 4 years or 1400KwHr, which ever comes first. For me, that means that when I travel, I can get free charging. But when local, I will charge at home. This way, I can maximize the benefit of the plan, and I will not sit at a charger past 80% unless I need to...
Dom, have Kyle check out the Munro Live post on the EV9 motor upgrade vs previous E-GMP platform motors, which explains its increased capabilities, including faster 400 volt dcfc. So he'll know what he's talking about when he talks to the Hyundai engineers.
Speaking of getting more info from Hyundai. My 2024 Kona electric has a new feature called Auxiliary Battery Saver PLUS which monitors the 12v and recharges it from the traction battery as needed. It turns on an orange light on the dash whenever it is active. There's not much information in the manual.
Why rush to install a J3400 for 2025 if Tesla is dragging their feet in giving out certification to use Superchargers? Aren't they the big reason to have the port at this point? If you can't use their network, then...???
Tom at at 38:19 talking about someone he ran into who wants to get rid of 4 EVS etc -- so true. honestly -- most rich people I know, do not drive out of town -- they fly, they fly everywhere -- an EV would be perfect for them, and even the one time a year they want to drive to the panhandle to go to some fancy location on the gulf, driving an EV there is not a problem.
I'm really surprised that you guys didn't mention that the Gravity photos with J3400 showed that they moved the charge port to the driver's side rear of the vehicle. All prior photos of prototypes showed the charge port at the same location as the Air, in front of the driver's door. To me, this is huge and shows a real commitment to adopting J3400. Hyundai Ioniq 5 will have J3400 on the wrong side of the rear of the car.
Lucid Gravity is still an SUV but very practical. Therefore it is shaped as a minivan. There is nothing wrong with that except low ground clearance which is by design for better road manners: whoever had lond trips in minivans knows that. Who needs off road capability will choose a Rivian, a GMC Hummer SUV EV, or a Jeep Wrangler 4xe, a upcoming electrified Ford Bronco etc.
I’m wondering where I can find Kyle‘s new Tesla model three range test, he has so many channels now I feel like I can’t find a lot of his stuff. Remember the good old days when you could put all your associated channels on your RU-vid page. Thanks for another great show guys.
People can and will want to charge to 100%, and that will be even more people will do that as ev adoption grows. It will take 100 years for that to charge. For me personally, the idea of stopping but not fully refueling is like fingernails on a chalkboard. We just need piles and piles of chargers everywhere. Or manufacturers need to list the realistic range based on recharge rates and make that what 100% is.
Please go back to the old format. Dom needs to be the moderator. No offence to Martyn! The show has not been the same since you switched to the Batteries Included, primarily because a certain host doesn't show up half the time.
