This video was shot "guerilla style" this was just as U2 was becoming a world-wide smash hit band (1987). They knew if they announced U2 were filming a video they'd have a crowd so they went in with a couple of vans, a small camera crew and the band. They literally had a boom box on a shopping cart as the playback source! Adam Clayton, the bass player (dude with the glasses) is a total party animal and he was so fed up with shooting the video and he was in Las Vegas, that he literally got in taxi cab at the end of the video and left to go party for real, forget the video shoot! great reaction!
Stumbling on to some band called 'U2'........ Hanging around could delay you a few years, as they have Quite a back catalogue! They've played just about every kind of song imaginable - intimate and quiet, manic, loud, psychedelic, trippy, dance, country, electro, gospel, with distorted guitar or a bank of violins. Your choice... you just take a dip and I think the real fun for people new to them is to mix it up... different decades - take a song, then a different decade and choose another song. Things get really weird that way. But to describe their influence..... well, RU-vid - what does it sound like? And in my opinion, the similarity was never an accident.
This is a deep deep rabbit hole of incredible music spanning 4 decades. They are an incredible live band, btw. There's a couple reactors who will do the studio first followed by the live in the same or a later video. I think that's probably a good way to go, honestly. Especially for a song like "Where the Streets Have No Name." That song has an epic intro and outtro that you don't get in the live or in the official music video, so of you listen to it, do an audio only version first. The official music video has an amazing concept, but it's missing the intro and outro that makes you feel like you're flying 🥰 That being said, there is great live version if you watch All I Want is You/Where the Streets Have No Name live at Slane Castle 2001. Both songs are great and the transition between them is amazing!!
