Terrific vintage video. This is from a 1976 Shirley MacLaine TV special, Gypsy in My Soul. She was 42 (and gorgeous!), and Lucille Ball was 65, and in great shape. Both amazing comedians and dancers, at any age.
I forgot that Shirley MacLaine had a TV Special. Lots of people were getting them at that time: Sonny and Cher, The Osmonds, Carol Burnett of course, Dean Martin. I am sure I missed lots.
Yes, they all did specials. Sinatra, Doris Day, and even the then-new crowd like Liza Minnelli, Goldie Hawn, and others. The 60s and 70s were full of those shows. Once in a while you get one now from Seth McFarlane or Lady Gaga but there are so few who can even attempt it now and get a greenlight it's sad.
Magnifique!...Shirley Maclaine grande actrice américaine...beau duo, elle sera toujours une de mes actrices préférées,c'était quelque chose en ce temps là! Muriel
I am just so impressed that Lucy & Shirley (though especially Lucy) can kick their legs so high continually. It probably has something to do with Lucy being a showgirl/chorus girl
I remember seeing this on television back in the 1970's and I've never forgotten it. Great to see it again. So funny!! Why is there no REAL TALENT like this any more??
For those many of you commenting on Lucy's legs at her age (66), check out Chita Rivera's dancing legs in her later years. However, NO ONE -- no woman -- wore a top hat as well as Lucy did! Such posture! A dancer never forgets.
All the way until the end. You should check out here appearance with Bob Hope at the 1989 Oscars just before she died. She had beautiful legs. She was always just beautiful to me all around, anyway.
Bravissima!! Dancing was amazing. Lucille Ball was quite a tall woman. And Shirley MacLaine and Lucille Ball performed so well together. Thank you for posting this video that was so entertaining and very enjoyable to watch!
A lot of actresses got there start in musicals back in the chorus. Lucille Ball was no different. She was a song and dance girl when she was in her twenties.
The Official Second Season of Lucille Ball's second series The Lucy Show, is coming to DVD on July 13, 2010! If you haven't seen the Lucy show it is so funny! And the second season co-stars Vivian Vance(Ethel)! Also it's in Color!
There's a cute anecdote from a few years before she passed, went to a party wearing a gown that displayed her legs. Noticed a young guy observing them quipped with “not bad for an old broad huh?”
I knew Lucy some....can't fathom she had the staff of color removed. No matter what you say can't be....She and MacLaine were hardly the best of friends, but the segment worked out and MacLain, I believe, earned an Emmy for this special.
Bumping an old thread but I have to say something. I own a lot of Lucy's later shows and you can see "staff of color" onstage with her in many of them. Please cite a source.
Actually Lucy in the '30s and '40s did make it as a showgirl. At RU-vid see a clip of her starring onstage in an early '40s film, dancing the "Jitterbug Bite." Then she was tall and slim, but indisputably shapely.
You are right, she does look kinda like Lily Tomlin in this. But then again, I've noticed that she looks kinda like---or a lot like---Lily Tomlin in everything...
It’s called a diffused lens (and an experienced cameraman), a very good make-up Artist, and very careful lighting. Lucille Ball in person at that time looked markedly older in person than she did on camera.
@@ethannielson942 She looked fantastic. I don’t care about the lighting and diffuser. It looked great on television! Most importantly...that dancing and moving was ALL HER and she was 66 years old! CLASS like no other.
You ever come in stillness... still point investigator... I don’t compromise... you do and you create all sorts, but I don’t and yes, I freeze well and that’s why I won.
@Italiabeefy I'm old. Way old. So old I remember this from network TV in the 70s! Lucy was a genius - on I Love Lucy. But I agree with who ever said that Beyonce, Janet and Madonna are in the same class as Lucy and Shirley! As singers and dancers. Without a doubt!
Oh My God!!! Her legs have GOT to be fake. I was just thinking. How is she like 70 and have better legs than I do at 14. Then I remembered. Oh ya. She lived in a time of thin and BEAUTIFUL showgirls. And I was born in the time of McDonalds and Burger King.
