You missed noticing all those Pflueger American made casting reels displayed among the newer older tackle. They are true old school reels; using them with a split bamboo rod is as old school as it gets. The spools run on jewels and bushings; mine are made of mostly of nickel silver. I have one Pflueger Summit and one Supreme and a near new out of the box Ocean City reel. They are direct drive with no drag and just have a clicker. When you catch a bass on one of them you did something. That’s a fact you will find out quick. It is easy using old lures but, using genuine old school casting reels ups the level to a much different height. Your thumb is your brakes and your drag. When a Bass hits and runs that little crank handle spins and will numb your knuckles real quick if you are not quick letting it go. A good size bass likely will burn your thumb if you try stopping it from making a run too. That old boy who caught the long standing World record bass use a reel like this in 1932; you can bet on that. I start out using them in 1960 because that is all I had to use given to me. Now; Retro means Historically Old-fashioned; old fashioned goes a long ways back; now don’t it.
A lot of the old timers fish those "crappie baits" for everything. They just fish for the enjoyment and they catch everything from bluegill to bass and some good ones too. I don't think my grandpa has ever used much more than a white curly tail jig or tube in all the years we've fished together.
I sure do miss the store we had here till Mel passed away and they closed. Massive retro selection. That's where I picked up my portable Eagle Silent Sixty 😁
Great videos. I’m an old customer at Lucky Lure. They have a lot of stuff that you just don’t find at the big box stores. The next time you’re in the OKC area find your way out to the suburb of Mustang and a nondescript looking lumber yard/home center called All Season Building Supply. The owner is an angler and has the coolest little tackle section in there that you’ve ever seen. He try’s to have the tackle that BPS doesn’t carry. Also a lot of old stock…I think I wiped them out on old Storm Wiggle Warts. Check it out, you’ll love it.
I used to buy Sultan spinnerbaits, they had a similar keel shaped head as the ones in your video. Those worked fantastic for some reason, all my spinnerbaits now just don't have that same magic.
Thanks to this channel I found out about the amazing Lunker Lure, and discovered they're only about two hours from where I live! Also you should totally make a video showing all of your classic rods and reels, a rod and reel arsenal type of video Retro bassin' style
That Giant Spook at the end was awesome! Them Georgia blades are burning a hole in my brain trying to figure out how they would perform in the water. 🤔🤔🤔
Those Beaver Bottom Baits are great for just about anything. In Fall/Winter I use the Blue with pink tails & Black with Chartruce tails and in the Spring/Summer, I use the Orange with Chartruce tails & Red with White tails for Trout, Crappie, and Sunfish mostly Walleye will hit them pretty well too.
I still have my Lowrance paper sonar and Super Sixty flasher from my guiding days. That paper was pretty expensive and it was only used when running the big motor looking for fish. I’d run the flasher to first find the structure then use the paper unit to look for fish or Shad. Back before GPS and mapping chips. I wish we were still in the paper map, 2D only and no GPS days. That’s when you could really separate the really good fishermen from the average. This newer technology has made it too easy. That’s when we had to triangulate our prime offshore spots and they didn’t get hit by everyone every week. Most guys were bank beaters back then.
Good stuff right here. Really enjoy the old school lure education. The Big O’ is an underrated crank. I’m always curious why you don’t see anyone throwing them (pro’s included). Now that I think about it, is there anyone sponsored by Cotton Cordell 🤔
