CLIP DESCRIPTION:
At the poker table, Huck Cheever (Eric Bana) bluffs out a Card Grabber Sharkey (Omar Benson Miller).
FILM DESCRIPTION:
A professional poker player whose astounding luck at the table fails to translate into his lonesome love life attempts to win the World Series of Poker while simultaneously earning the affections of a beautiful Las Vegas singer in a high-stakes emotional drama from L.A. Confidential director Curtis Hanson and Munich screenwriter Eric Roth. When his personal problems threaten to distract him from what could be his biggest win ever, seasoned poker pro Huck Cheever (Eric Bana) finds comfort in the company of singer Billie Offer (Drew Barrymore). Upon preparing for the biggest card game in the country, however, Huck soon realizes that his problems have only just begun when he finds that his opponent at the table will be none other than his estranged father, L.C. (Robert Duvall), a poker legend whose mythical reputation makes him a more than worthy opponent for his troubled son.

The people’s feelings and struggles in this movie are actually as real as it gets, and is really what the movie is all about. People living outside the perfect picture. You guys are better of watching rounders…

@@benjaminboot2340 your comment sums up the atmosphere of Lucky You. Any normal, working class Grinder at the low limits live has met the characters in this movie before, personified by those we sit with, either at the table or the adjoining bar that always seems to accompany a card room.

because he put him on either nothing or a hand that he wouldnt fold (polarising range), no need to raise more. u can like or dislike the movie but those who say the film isnt realistic dont know much about poker. poker wise this movie is the closest to reality

@@transeeyou885 , this was a limit poker game. It looks to be an 8--16 LIMIT Hold-Em game. So raises are fixed to 32 to 48. In other words, you can't shove more all in or make a massive raise.

... I love the smirk stare that Eric Bana gives this guy & others throughout the movie.He plays the part of a talented,but degenerate gambler so well in this movie and I'd crack up laughing if I had to sit across the table from him if he stared at me like that.Something funny and alluring about his gaze.

No. You'd get talked to by the floor. But, not kicked out or banned. Unless you have a prior history. Especially not in a low stakes limit cash game.

If a player mucks his cards and a player tries to flip them over they are gone, no questions asked. It's the same if you're playing blackjack and continually touch the whole cards after being warned except you get no first warnings in this situation

I'm shocked at how the flipping over of the cards wasn't a big deal.....anyone who plays poker at casino knows that's a serious offense and grounds for ejection from the poker room and a potential ban from the casino. The dealer's lackluster reaction means this movie is already unrealistic and no player would ever let that go. It's a serious issue. I've seen it once and the guy was escorted off and the whole table flipped.

The scene that got me more was when he was in the tank with the duece having a whispering conversation with his dad making the side bet for the ring . That would never happen and if it did the floor would kill the hand.

All you guys saying that you would want the guy kicked out of the casino? I have had a very good player stand up and yell to the table " that all this guy does is check raise" after I felted him with a flipped straight. He than promptly left the table. I had another very good make fun of me for 40 mins because I cracked his pocket aces when I flopped a set of 10's. He whined so much to all his friends I finally had to tell him to be quiet or leave. I had a husband and wife team show up and I felted this guy with Aces and he left the table. Probably because his wife said " good hand" to me afterward haha. All kinds of stuff is said at the poker table that is a form of angling. Oh well!

The point here is that the guy didn't call the bet, so he has no right to see the cards if the other player chooses to muck them. It's not a right to see the other player's cards unless you call the bet. You'll get thrown out for doing that, as it's an advantage to the other players at the table to potentially pick up a read and gain a free advantage without being in the hand.
