BRAVI
Just wonderful. superb, magnificent.....whatever else you can say.....it is so beautiful. This is such a difficult cabaletta to pull off properly. Brava, Mariella!!
Immortale!!!
@@babbonatale9362 It is Mariella not Mirella. But Mirella was one of the greatest mezzo sopranos of all times that I love very much, also. But for Verdi and Puccini. For Donizetti Marriella was the best one.
Here she gaves us her best. And there is no doubt that she's is the best Lucrezia ever. Her technique contemplates all the requirements of the belcanto: expressive use of vocal colors, phrasing and coloratura.
The official video does not represent what was happening at theatre at the end of this aria.....people went CRAAAAZY after such high pitch ...too bad the video doesn't represent the atmosphere of those unforgettable nights with Mariella and Donizetti music.
The best Lucrezia of all times even surpassing Joan Sutherland and definitely the lame effort of Renee Fleming in this role. Mariella was a force to be reconned with. Her beautiful voice, superb technique and her beauty made her a wonderful artist. ❤ Love her.
bravissima!!!
Her last note is second to none... even Sutherland. As talented as Sutherland was, she always had to take a very audible break before her very high notes, which imho ruined the phrasing. Devia just soars effortlessly and her semiquavers are crisp so she takes the cake for me :)
ijdoti Yes, Devia is marvelous here. But I heard both Devia and Sutherland many times at the Met; Sutherland's voice just ricocheted off the walls and enveloped you in rich sound. Devia sounded like an Italian Roberta Peters. All of the artists I just mentioned were great in their own way, but whether or not Sutherland needed to take a pause before a high note is irrelevant. She had the once-in-a-century voice. That doesn't mean everyone has to love her, but her vocal splendor is a fact of life.
You may love the last note, but Sutherland's coloratura, trill, and line trump Devia's every single time. Devia rattles through the coloratura like a broken car engine, in my opinion. What I always marvel at (lots of other people included as well) was Joan's ability to maintain a dark, full, round sound up to Db, D, Eb, and E. Devia's top pitches sound shrieky and thin to my ear.
ijdoti You are so right! Perfect belcanto because it’s still a personal voice. Have never cared for the big aussie bird for certain resons: Bad diction, mostly one vowel, no low register, 0 acting skills and 0 emotion.
Devia's top notes were always stunning, and she had a masterful technique. Sutherland will always reign supreme in these roles, but Devia was right behind her, IMO.
I saw Devia several times in New York, many years ago. I thought she was as dull as a doorknob. But she is quite marvelous here, beautiful singing and a real characterization. IMO, she doesn't quite reach the level of Sutherland (who simply had a richer, more beautiful voice), but she does indeed reach a very high standard.
Devia wasn't really much of an artist when she came to met, a light lyric in fach that is maybe the most crowded there ever was. And the met never really gave her a star vehicle to show of her gifts. The best things she did were the OONY concerts, an unbelievable Lakme in particular and an incredible Amina and Elvira later on. The met didn't do bel canto except for Sutherland and in other music they had singers who'd been around a while getting first choice. Devia had to leave and go to Europe where she became a true diva of the first rank, her voice filled out a bit, and she learned how to act. Saw her several times in Pesaro singing Rossini and she was totally remarkable.
Allan, e' terribile.
