Do I say the album title correctly? Can I keep it together long enough to finish my review? An amazing work of art that talks about important themes in with great music. @lucydacus Skye's Homework: VBS. • Lucy Dacus - "VBS" (Of...
Beautiful review, so good as aways! About the track “partners in crime”, Lucy said in an interview that she was sounding bad the day she recorded it, so she decided to use auto-tune temporarily, but then ended up loving it and kept it there. It was a choice because according to her the meaning of the song is about a relationship she had as a teenager with an older person, and trying to act “really adult in order to relate or get that person’s respect”. The effect falsifies her voice as an attempt to be technically more “perfect”, so it relates to the lyrics!
Okay, so I saw the thumbnail and went to listen to the album before I heard your review. So I’m listening to the album and I’m working and I’m loving the music. And then the song thumbs plays. And about half way through, I burst out crying. Like face in hands crying. And my whole chest heart. I thought maybe it’s bc I’m PMS’ing, but now I’m listening to your review and you seemed to have a similar heart breaking reaction.
Thank you so much for sharing this review, one of my favorites you've ever done so far. I especially like the part where you talked about accepting the fact that we don't owe our parents anything. It almost made me teared up as well hearing that. As someone who comes from a traditional Asian family, that whole concept is something so taboo and I'm glad that Lucy shed some sort of light on it. I think Lucy mentioned in a couple interviews that Partner in Crime has autotune was because she had a vocal injury and chose to use that but remained with that decision since the autotune suited the theme of the song. Side note, you should totally check out the boygenius EP they did, it's under 30 minutes and it's really interesting to see them all together with how different their styles are.
I know the point of this channel is for you to review new music, but I wanted to thank you for sharing your thoughts on other topics. As a woman in her mid twenties, I've not really met men that think so deeply and empathetically about many topics you bringe up. I just wanted to thank you for giving me a bit of hope.
I’ve got a terribly long Watch Later list on RU-vid so I always get to your videos late. Thank you for the reminder and celebration fo this great emotional album.
This is a fantastic review. I got goosebumps as you recited painful lines and put my thoughts to words. This is one of my favorite records of all time and your passion and take made me love it even more. Thank you.
You should check out the album “God Good God Youve Almost Convinced Me Im Real”. It sounds like weird deconstructed, Christian Contemporary music that got caked in auto-tune.
It’s funny how you talked about being “that” type of guy at the end, because I’m at a point that I’m terrified of ppl thinking of me as that type of guy lmao
