OMG just watched Lucy in Japan with no side kicks just Lucy and her piano player and she was mesmerizing she was like an angel that had come down There is NO doubt about it she can sing live!
Hi ya Chris - I don't know how I didn't see this before. Great reaction to an amazing version of this song. I actually heard Eva's version first when I bought one of her CDs before she passed. Lucy's version is a tribute to Eva and, wow, did she crush it. This is another example of Lucy's versatility to different music genres. I can't get enough of this young lady! Have a great holiday season and stay safe & healthy!
Lucy has a huge musical knowledge. She made me discover artists i never earded about, Like Eva. She always choose the right song to cover, and it is not the simplest one. Sometime, when i look at her videos , i feel she has some beautiful message to transmit: Wind beneath my wings Footprints in the sand Over the rainbow Run The prayer Some one you loved Fix you When you believe Hallelujah You raise me up In the arms of an angel Say something Hero She use to be mine Thank you for this day All songs have a meaning, and Lucy choose them carefully 🤗🤗🤗🤗🤗🥰🥰🥰
Hi Anthony I agree with you there. I had never heard of Eva Cassidy since hearing Lucy sing this. I have now listened to her version . As for Wind beneath my Wings by Lucy it is one of my favourites from Lucy. The ending is so beautiful .Lucy never ceases to amaze everything she sings she makes her own and she draws you into the song with her .She is so rare.
Lucy Thomas have an Angelic voice, any song's she sing and she own this version of the song. Lucy is the best singer in her own world today.Thank you for the great reaction on this song "Over the Rainbow" by Lucy Thomas performance.
I agree… an angel that produces perfection! As you said, no one has a more smooth, precise and dialed in voice than Lucy. Your reactions are so good - they really nail it!
Interestingly, this video is exactly 2 years old today and Lucy has just gotten better and better since then. There are over 20 newer recordings to explore. You will enjoy any and all of them and we will enjoy watching you do it. Your Lucy reactions are the best!
I think we can all share our thought's on who we think is the better singer!, but there are ways to respect other people's opinions ,it should not get to the stage where some start to get somewhat abusive to others constructive comments!, if Lucy was to read some of what is being said, she would be mortified!,I'm sure it would be the last thing she wants!,as we respect Lucy for the artist she surely is, let's show respect to all those that follow this lovely young lady!🌈
As always... thanks for another amazing review of Lucy Thomas... Lucy Thomas's amazing vocals along with Acoustic Guitar by James Frankland have taken this beautiful song by Eva Cassidy to a whole new level. I grew up with the Wizard of Oz (years ago). Once a year, we would pile in front of the TV and watch. We probably knew every scene and every line by heart. Of course we would sing along 'Over The Rainbow' by Judy Garland. I got interested in performing at an early age, this show sparked my desire. Went on to sing and act for over a decade. Eva Cassidy took a classic and improved it. Different times means different styles. It was sad Eva passed away at such a young age. She left her legacy for others to enjoy though. Now Lucy comes along, she loves both versions of song. So what do you do? That is the benefit of having signed with one of the biggest Record Labels in the UK. On top of that, there are producers and composers Lucy can call on. They took Eva's song and improved it in my opinion. Need an Acoustic Guitar... no problem. Need a full Orchestra.. also no problem. Professional Resources many other singers lack. One thing I noticed right away, this is the first and only time you will see Lucy sitting during a performance. She has so much inner energy and was born to perform live. She is in her element standing on stage, using physical motions that adds depth and emotion. Lucy wanted to get up and perform. Lucy gives us a prelude at 2:10 into the video of what is coming later.... she repeats it again at 3:20 .... then at 3:30 she starts climbing the scale and then going forte by 3:40... another spectacular performance that leaves no doubt in listeners' minds just how talented Lucy truly is. She can not contain it, it shows in every note, word, and gesture. I can literally write pages about the Lucy Thomas 'Effect' on listeners. They become so emotionally invested in the song, it is as though she is singing a solo in their living room just for them. I ran out of superlatives, even Webster falls short. But will do my best to write in such a way the average fan can not only understand, but fully relate. Lucy is a Serious Professional. She delivers powerful performances, with perfect pitch, perfect enunciation, perfect note placement, perfect breathing, resulting in perfect vocals delivered with so much purpose. Lucy easily stands out from the rest. Lucy Thomas doesn't copy music... she improves it.
@@wilburfinnigan2142 I can still remember when Lucy performed "Over The Rainbow" with James Frankland on Acoustic Guitar. First time ever seeing her sit down for a performance. She is so used to being front and center. Lucy kept fidgeting... hard to sit still when you are a real performer....
Your reaction is exactly how i feel when i listen to Lucy. She is just phenominal. She can sing anything. You should listen to her sing "At Last" by Etta James...just fabulous. Her recent release from the Musical Rosie...Lord we thank you for this day is so emotional...she fronts a choir..she and the choir will choke you up. ❤❤❤❤
I really didn't care for the change from the original when I first heard this version, but it has really grown on me, especially with Lucy singing it. She could sing the phone book and it would be just beautiful.
Lucy's version has grown on me from the first time of listening to it!, I suppose I've always enjoyed Judy Garlands version because of all the history that comes with it!,on listening to Lucy's version on several occasions I have grown to appreciate it more!,on saying that, I would like to add that for me, Lucy is the best thing since 'sliced bread",never been that interested in some of the type of music she records, but because of her voice& her presence within all she records, I am smitten!🥰
Lucy doesn’t make the songs her own-she COPIES the original artist EXACTLY. She has a beautiful voice, BUT she doesn’t have them same feelings of the originals and doesn’t really “make them her own”.
Lucy has made many many covers and - with one exception - I think she has easily surpassed them all. That exception in My View is this version by Eva. She knew she had little time left here and poured every ounce of her soul into this performance. And the fact she played her own guitar so beautifully and flawlessly just about clinched it. Thank-you.
Hi Larry...I just really appreciate how you appreciate Lucy. You express so well what I feel whenever I listen to her sing. Lucy is definitely an incredibly talented vocalist the likes of which I personally have not heard, probably ever. She is truly gifted but more than that, Lucy has a certain compelling charisma that is hard to quantify. And yes, I get shivers whenever she performs her magic. What an extraordinarily special dedicated young lady. Lucy is definitely top of the class and comparing her to anyone else is futile because she is beautifully unique and pure of heart with a voice made in heaven.
Great I like you reaction to Lucy and I am so glad that you have found her ,the World needs to hear Lucy she is very special .This video is 2 years old her voice is even better now Try listening to her latest release "The greatest love of all" Lucy has taken on most of the Divas eg Whitney Houston, Barbara Streisand, Bette Midler ,Celine Dion ,Lady GaGa. and made the songs her own. I have heard songs from Lucy from the age of 9 .Her copy of "listen" age 14 is amazing the power she exhibits is amazing. One of my favourites is Lucy singing Bette Midler's "The wind beneath my wings" the ending is magical. Lucy is working on a musical due for release next year and she has released some of her original songs in advance eg."Broken dreams" and Starlight. I hope that you continue to listen and react to Lucy.🤩🤩🤩
@@wilburfinnigan2142 i know , but there is must be a start to Lucy voice discovery. No need to give to much choices at the beginning. Later on , we can add what ever we like about Lucy
Hmm, hmm I just found myself agreeing with you. Whoever first covered Judy Garland my thought was, oh no no no. Judy owns it. But as it goes and Lucy Thomas comes along, why not? An analogy: Keep a beautiful song alive and with nuances that blossom to another beautiful flower. Very grateful to have experienced this, thanks to those who requested it and to you Chris.
Larry, This is indeed beautiful. Some things I noticed: First, you reacted with a look of satisfaction right at the first note; I took a quick look at Judy Garland's version and the tempo here and on Eva's rendition is different from Judy's (not bad, just different); then the last 3 words Lucy holds the 'I' with a long note, then vibrato, then back out to the note again and it's all right on pitch. Excellent execution.
Ehh... I wanted to write something about my English being too bad to even describe her vocals but... to be honest, I'm just speechless... in any language. All I can say is I loved the reaction again. Have a nice day my friend! (or evening or whenever you read this 🙂)
Larry just 7 hours ago on May 11 Lucy put out a new song. Better than any thing she has done. It's called A Brand New Day it will blow you away. It is amazing.
My condolences on the loss of your rabbit. I know this is late, but I just now got caught up with Phenomenal, and so here we are. I'm obviously unaware of when you recorded Phenomenal, but it was uploaded 12 days ago, on the 4th... the same day I had to put my own cat down. So yeah. My heart goes out to you and your family. I hope you are able to grieve sufficiently, while not being overwhelmed or letting it consume you. Take care, my friend.
It saddens me that people get so tribal and argumentative over opinions! I also saw this on another reactor's channel. We all have our preferences. I was totally unaware of Eva Cassidy until I saw Lucy's cover of this song. I like larryshair's reaction to Lucy Thomas covers so I checked it out to see what he thought of this one. I read the comment's and see this argument about who did it best. So I found Eva Cassidy's version and watched it. When you learn that she was dying and probably knew it at the time and then listen to her sing the song it brings out a strong emotion reaction. Then you are told that Lucy is doing the cover as a tribute to Eva who she admires. To argue over who performed the song the best is an insult to Lucy and the memory of Eva. I am an unapologetic Lucy Thomas fan and think no one is better, but considering the circumstances, you have to acknowledge that Eva Cassidy's version is very, very special!
Couldn't agree more!,I am a massive fan of Lucy!,she's the only young artist I go to!,but why compare her to Judy Garland& Eva Cassidy, superstars in their own right!,this was a tribute from Lucy after all!.
@@wilburfinnigan2142 I wish you would stop doing this! Many of us are just as big fans of Lucy as you are. I love that you are so loyal to Lucy, but there is no need to antagonize other people over your partisanship. Lucy does't need you to defend her and no one said that Lucy needed to apologize for her tribute to Eva!
@@wilburfinnigan2142 No, I wish you would stop bashing other performers and their fans. I believe that Lucy Thomas is the best female singer that I have ever heard, but I don't call other fans stupid or their opinions stupid when they disagree with me. That does not help Lucy or her fans. And it is not cold hard facts! It is your opinion, an opinion that I happen to share by the way, but it is still just our opinion. Until you can come up with a system of metrics that analyses a person's performance with concise objective parameters that can be quantified and used to compare two different performances, it will remain our opinion. We can be proud of Lucy without disrespecting other people!
Well, it’s a reaction channel for starters. I always link the video for you to see it uninterrupted. Let’s try something fun! I recommend that you do a few reactions, but don’t pause them. THEN, let’s get a stopwatch and see how long RU-vid either blocks your video or worse, takes your channel down for copyright infringement. Sound fun? Take it from someone that has actually been threatened with the removal of the channel. Those that don’t understand are the first to just say “bye”. Let me be the second. Bye.
Funny, other way round for me. Eva has a beautiful smooth and feminine lower register, but her high notes are a bit screechy and sometimes off key. Still love her work, but there are some songs she sings that are harsh and not particularly pleasant to listen to.....
Chris, I love Eva's interpretation, also her performance of Sting's "Fields of Gold", Lucy does this justice. Always wondered about the lyrics 'though. Why the obsession with finding the weight of food stuff and why specifically over a rainbow? Perhaps it does matter to the weight of a Pie.

Hi Larry further to my note below I have just listened to Lucy signing this same song age 14 .I just thought that you may like to listen to it so you can compare the two. Keep up the great reactions to Lucy Its on Media city UK unplugged Dec 2018
Similar style to Eva Cassidy....obviously inspired and influenced.by her..crystal clear...beautiful voice...superb.....interesting how many young performers are going back to the earlier great catalog of songs we oldies enjoyed. I cant help feeling that Angelina Jordan opened the door for many of these performers...they all seem to have caught the A J train in 2023....how wonderful for all of us...we are getting back to real bonafide music. Love the fact that the new generations are discovering these timeless melodies.....GROOVY? imperfectly perfect...love it.
Hi Larry I need to give you a heads up Lucy has just released a new original song "Brand new day" It is without doubt I believe her greatest yet it is phenomenal I just keep playing it over and over again. Please re act to it . This one will definitely convince you that Lucy will conquer the World.
as much as I love Lucy's music, (and I think she is by far THE best singer out there at the moment, and should be global by now !!!) I don't think anyone can top Eva Cassidy's live version......
Lucy is great, but Eva is absolutely unrepeatable. A beautiful voice is not enough to enter your soul as Eva Cassidy knew how to do. That said, this girl is very, very talented.
Unlike Lucy. Eva's voice was untrained and yet her understated and unaffected delivery was matchless ...her uncontrived ability to move you to tears... because a certain song moved her to want to cover it. It might be why other artist want to cover her cover of a certain song ..like this one. To top this off she was not just a singer but a great musician and musical arranger ..thus this cover of Eva's cover. Lucy has a beautiful voice...but its trained and maby at some point she might be able to accompany her own voice like Eva with guitar playing of her own ..then we can truly be fair if we compare ...just think.... Eva's voice was untrained plus she accompanied herself with some very intricate guitar playing ...that's quite an accomplishment for some one that was not a professional. Yet ... to this day even though she was virtually unknown .. ..people know her now..she moves people to tears with her guileless musical artistry ..transporting you to somewhere you long to be. That is raw natural talent... from the depths of ones soul.
I agree with much of what you have written and, as you intimate, comparison is subjective and invidious. Sadly, Eva is no longer with us, but Lucy recorded this song as a tribute to Eva at the age of 17 - and was not trying to outdo her! You have, perhaps unintentionally, made the fact that Lucy started with a vocal coach at the age of 7, sound like a disadvantage in being able to express emotion, but I can assure you that her supporters believe that this is one of the characteristics that differentiate her vocals and, even now at the age of 20, she still has probably around 10 years, or so, of improvement in her voice before she nears the age at which Eva recorded her rendition of 'Over The Rainbow'. There is more to look forward to with Lucy Thomas! 😊
I like how Lucy is making every cover she does 'her own' and do that with total respect with the orginal version. You are asking for other smooth voices that are even better. Well I guess there are not (who am I to say that, because maybe there are: who knows what talents there are we have never heard of), but: Angelina Jordan, 17 years of age (jazz/blues/soul) and Amira Willighagen, 19 years of age (classical/cross-over/religious) are certainly equally talented singers as Lucy is, each in their own specific genre. What also is a funny detail: all three are finishing highschool this year and I can't wait to see what will happen after that. Amira Willighagen has finished school already last December (she lives in South Africa) and she has decides to have a break in study this entire year so she can focus on releasing music and performing. Till now Lucy, Angelina and Amira have been very protected from the media and talent-hunters and stayed most of the time 'out of radar', which to me is a very healthy and wise decision of the people around them.
Different strokes for different folks! I am sorry you don't feel the emotional depth, even at the young age of 17, of Lucy's vocals, as this is just one of the characteristics that differentiate her performances for her supporters!
Yes she dose sing it beautifully but I don’t think she she has the same amount of feeling that Eva had ,,she was so much softer in the way that she sang it and that’s how I think it should be sung, but that’s just me.
Eva is gone but, now we have Lucy. Thank heavens! Good reaction! Speaking of Billie Jean, the short lived duo The Civil Wars did a great acoustic cover of it.
Love ur reactions, in fact one of my favorites. Not sure if you will read this but a phenomenal song I would love you to listen to is “Danger Line” by Avenged Sevenfold. Not sure if there are any other A7X fans here but regardless it is such a powerful song that tells the story of a soldier who goes to war.
First off.. this is an “Eva Cassidy” cover for a reason. Lucy has a beautiful voice.. but sorry.. She’s no Eva Cassidy. We all have our different tastes.. but I don’t feel the emotion I felt the first time I heard Eva’s rendition. Even before I read about her passing.. Eva has more emotion in the song than any other version than anyone else.. more so than Judy Garland.
A subjective opinion, and certainly not one shared by everybody - but why, oh why, do you have to turn Lucy's tribute to the wonderful Eva Cassidy into an unsavoury 'best' or 'better than' competition?
You should make your own version of the song and not to copy another singer version. Now these reactors will say you are better than another singer version. That is unfair to the likes of Eva Cassidy. She's genius coming out with a brilliant version of the song like Somewhere over the rainbow & Fields of Gold. Try to come up with your own version and let us see what makes you a prodigy they're saying, peace!
@@adamknight7041 I actually feel the same, but Eva was a unique, and largely undiscovered talent in her own right - her emotional delivery and magical skills only being properly recognised after her untimely death. Such a great loss for true music lovers!
Hi Cutie Here is a (crazy?) thoughts... I was gonna write she has The voice and The face of an angel. But then I started to think how do we know Angels are pretty? What if when we die and go to heaven and meet The Angels all of them are ugly. Im not that pretty so maybe its me who has a face of an angel? 😅 Take care my friend
Wait... If angels aren't pretty then I'm really sorry, but you can't be one of them 🤔😀 You're beautiful! and don't ever let anyone tell you that you're not. 🤗
Yeah lucy can sang but so could eva, and it was her arrangement and eva played her own guitar. Sorry lucy your copycating.. your also louder thats not what eva was about, just copycat judy garlands version.
Why treat this as some sort of competition - there is no 'best' or 'better than' here, as Lucy sung this as a tribute to the great Eva Cassidy, in her own style - and was not trying outdo her! 😕
