3:53 As a hardcore D2 fan, this stung. I think it has deserved it in the past, but holy FUCK did Bungie drop the ball recently. I cannot believe Destiny got nominated right after completely gutting the Community Team. Bungie is a laughing stock rn imo
It is actually a fucking insult to the people who worked at bungie for D2 to be nominated as best community supported and a spit on the face to its playerbase from all the balls drop this year, it is just fucking wow.
I'm seeing at least one pretty viral(like 50 upvotes, give or take) going post of D2 players switching to Warframe every 1-2 weeks on the subreddit. So yeah... Bungie's a laughing stock. And to think I wanted to start playing it at one point.
@@UnfeelingMonster Cause unless you have one parent born in France and one from the USA you ain't. Americans do this weird thing where if their grandparents are from say Ireland or Italy for example yet their parents and themselves are born in the USA they somehow are from that other country, nope you are 100% American.
To say that Lies of P is ugly is insane, like I get that it's not as good as Elden Ring, Bloodborne or other souls games but to say it's UGLY is just wild to me.
twink bloodborne had some moments where i was just stunned silent with the spectacle. ive played the game to death and simon manus' grotesque transformation always gives me chills(even though he is annoying asl). nameless puppet is also pure eye candy to me with the amazing appearance and the attacks with the trail. chefs kiss.
I think Ludwig had a point on the multiplayer for bg3 would be true if it was almost any other game than bg3, but bg3 is heavily pushing on the dnd community where the multiplayer is absolutely amazing for. It is meant for people who play dnd and dnd takes along time and requires hours upon hours. So it is just perfectly targeting the community which they made it for. It is there to give the dnd experience, and it does it fantastically. So because of what the game is the multiplayer is perfect for it.
I couldnt watch people playing the game in multiplayer cause most of the people were like chaotic (example everybody goes different ways, like ,no team work except in battles)
@@hendreor.m6685 that is kinda what i fine endearing with it. You have the freedom to work together or not and just have fun. What you are talking about that is something which is extremely dnd feel overall. People have the freedom to do their own thing. Now do I think it works great for streaming? Maybe not, but it is really fun for many others. Best multiplayer does not mean beat multiplayer to stream.
It might target the D&D crowd also, but I can guarantee to you, that a large group of players exists that didn't even know about D&D before playing. It's the gateway drug of D&D. Those people don't necessarily care for the time investment required for real D&D, nor should they, because this isn't real D&D. It's a streamlined implementation, where you don't have to set up a campaign (or rather, can't), don't have to DM, don't have to roll, or reference your sheets for modifiers, and take lengths of time considering every action, when you are limited to what the game presents to you. I don't think having players who are D&D experts and to whom the time investment is normal is a legitimate excuse. In my limited experience, Ludwig's point stands. My friends who played together (2 separate pairs) ended up finishing it alone. I mean, as somebody said in chat: It's good, but not award winning good. It works for what it tries (experiencing the BG3 campaign in co-op with friends), but it definitely could be better. Imagine campaign creation tools, or a map editor (like with Divinity). I think that would be genuinely award-winning, but the IP's holders might be more at fault for that, than anyone else. I don't fault them for this, to be honest. An RPG is always going to be somewhat of a time-investment, but I don't think the game is the best multi-player game of the year. I mean, the game wasn't even designed around multi-player in the first place. It, at best, facilitates it. There is a reason people recommend you play solo first.
@@habama1077 I completely disagree in a sense. I agree that a lot of the people playing it are not from dnd but the people originally targeted by the game was dnd playeea, the coop was built with that In mind and is perfect for exactly that. I do not really see how they could have made a better coop for the game than what was done.
Hi Fi Rush deserves to win an award this year. Was one of the best games to come out in early 2023 and proved that there are still games that are made with heart and soul.
@@chrismancini9539 A full series playthrough? absolutely, it’s one of the best narrative experiences out there. A full 100% achievement series completion i would avoid unless you are a heavy completionist, it’s a rough journey that way lol
Going through them all right now (Plus Ishin), and both Ishin and 3 are just complete SLOGS of games. I know there's the light at the end of the tunnel by the name of LAD, at least. Ishin's story is pretty good, but the heavy RPG mechanics basically just being a worse version of Monster Hunter's without the monsters or the hunting has dragged the ENTIRE experience down.
This. While I admit the game is just decent the fucking music of that game is just mind boggling AMAZING and while I also admit some games also had amazing score FF16s are just out of this fucking world.
@@benthasome Not fully sure what you mean, but it's Final Fantasy 16. You can technically read about a lot of things, but all the cutscenes are fully acted and the gameplay is very action-y, so it's pretty different, in comparison to the classic titles.
@@lucas_lipp I still didn't know what ff16 meant, now I know, never was interested in Final Fantasy franchise, I know it's probably good, just not for me
I hope they include a worst game of the year category where the winner gets slapped by Geoff Keighly for making a terrible game. Also please get rid of the esports stuff and replace it with AA game of the year, best horror game, best developer of the year, most underrated game of the year etc etc anything instead of that.
hi mr thicc 970. thank you for comment. unfortunately this shit wasn't funny. nothing about your comment added anything positive to my life and I think you should delete it.
The eSports section brings in numbers (I think) and also where else would eSports have its moment to get an award? I don't know of any other award show that would be a good fit for covering esports
@@dz8327 That can work too, only problem is regardless of what you do people will be angry, like if they added more categories people might start to complain that it goes on for too long yk people with different timezones for example. I just think a lot of people don’t particularly care about esports awards they just wanna see actual game awards
I played like 1 of the non-free games this year because all the other nominees are like $70 now so I would have to sell my kidneys to play all of them and make an educated vote. I did still vote though.
Ludwig be like: haven’t played it but I’ll vote for it just because Also feel like he put down Mario wonder WAY too much considering it basically revitalised 2d mario - this isn’t me saying I think it should win nor do I think it will just saying it deserves the nomination if anything
@@UnfeelingMonster I’m not saying he does but he was saying it doesn’t deserve to be on this list when I think a complete re-invention of Mario does lol
How TOTK is not even in "best audio design" is honestly so sad. There are plenty of videos to watch about how insane the sound design in that game is. But to give you a surface level example, how the sound of your footsteps changes based on what you are wearing
Game awards nominees have always been pretty sketchy, games or people that should or shouldn't be there is just to be expected. The sound design you described is also in BOTW and i think this is why it is not there.
Thats the bare minimum for sound design tho… Alan wake 2’s sound design makes u feel like there are things around you, there are twigs snapping, thunderous storms, and just heavy atmosphere and ambience. If a phone rings in the game or a knock on the door occurs, I have gotten up to check my phone or to go open the door because of how real it sounds
@@shawnthomas6492 I could write you an essay on why I disagree with that first sentence there, but others have done it already. Genuinely watch a few videos on BotW's (and TotK's) sound design and, more importantly, the mix. It's honestly the best overall quality I've heard in a video game. I'm not talking about individual samples, but the overall mix. Sounds, the ambience, how the music is integrated into it and designed around it, and isn't just ,,on top of it". I've never felt like I was actually in nature in an open world game before. It was an experience, that really sounds like it's more than the sum of it's parts. I don't know what kinds of games you play if you think a phenomenal audio mix is the baseline, but it really isn't. Even in AAA, sound is usually an afterthought, well below visual presentation. I played Jedi Survivor recently, and it doesn't even come close. Don't even get me started on Starfield. BG3 is.. somewhat better than OK, but nothing incredible. Don't get me wrong, I'm not arguing that AW2's sound is worse. It's really good. I think Control was awesome too (Remedy knows what's up). But these 2 Zelda games were the first time I've played a game and felt like not having volume sliders in-game was a good idea. And neither of these are cinematic games with visual realism in mind. They operate in an open-world sandbox.
4:23 bro. The guy who said "Ff14 didn't release an expansion this year" as a reason to say it doesn't deserve the award, like bro. Every 4 months the game gets update patches with new content, and the game even had 2 massive conventions this year in NA and EU to celebrate the game and community (JP next year too). Quit yapping about things you know nothing about.
I don't think it's fair to count out evil geniuses this year because it species team not full org. The players themselves had an incredible run and potter is absolutely coach of the year. Fuck the people running EG tho
technically it does. or well. brining back something that is true. and its havinga polished finished game with alot of content not being sold as an expansion. something to todays kids but something thats classic. it will change the way these game companies start shitting out actual good RPGs because they wilkl try to follow their footseps
@@EpicTacoSenpai I honestly disagree on both the polished and finished parts. It came out pretty buggy, and was missing plenty in the latter acts. Even then, people called it the new standard and GotY. That said, they have addressed plenty of it already, which is commendable, but some things are yet to be fixed. Cut content and bug fixes are a staple of the industry already, but I don't like the double standard of calling one game shit for it while another becomes the new standard for the industry. Especially in a year, where there were quite a lot of good games. Maybe in 1-2 years when a free definitive edition releases I'll revisit it, and reconsider my experience, but right now, this is very similar to how D:OS2 went a few years ago.
Honestly, I liked Quackity, but I absolutely hate any minecraft content creator. He used to make good content and now with another SMP server, it's just boring. Mouse deserves it so much
amazing game but not a honor id give. its BOTW with new shoes. BG# will change the game industry. that award to us is like seeing a game get a sticker but to companies. it wouldbe a slap to their face saying HEY yo ucan make a great game without all the bull you add to it. @@dairdevil4271
I'm disappointed in chat, since none of them suggested Castlevania for best adaptation. Castlevania Nocturne goes hard edit: immediately after I wrote this comment, 2 people in chat suggested Castlevania, so you two are cool
Saying EVO doesnt deserve it this year is insane to me. Evo not only broke records not just in the fgc but in gaming in general but also got its own day named after itaelf in Nevada while also being hype as hell.
“They didn’t have an expansion this year” isn’t a good reason to not give best community support to ffxiv lmao. Community support is about how in touch they are with the playerbase lol
Decides to cut champions salary but intentionally informing them weeks later so they can’t transfer to other teams, unlike zonic (vitality coach who left for falcons after winning the major and having to accept a salary cut or else). Like, just give your players a chance to look for other opportunities if you’re gonna shit on them…
I don’t think Baldur’s Gate should win best story because as great as the game is the story is not what makes it great. To me Cyberpunk or Spider-Man 2 had way better storytelling with the seamless switching from storylines in Spider-Man and the twists in Cyberpunk. I do think they prob should win Game of The Year though.
lies of p boss design has peaks that rival the very best among the souls genre. i prefer nameless puppet's design and fight to any boss fight in dark souls 1 or 2. the visual style is just stunning in a horrific way.
Ludwig having the most foul takes ever, lmao. Not that I care much since whoever nominated the games and creators probably was born into this world like a month or two ago.
resident evil is straight up cheating. shouldbe a nomination for game of year. games with that title i bring freshness something new or exciting. BG3 did all that. TOTK is is BOTW+. fair contender but BG# is miles ahead. it would literally change the industry
