You actually have seen John Giant a couple of times, he was the Marine who proclaimed "Justice" at Marineford when Luffy got his first bounty, right after Arlong Park. He wasn't revealed to be a giant then, because he was just a dude with a big chin in that hat and coat.

@@UltraBall23 Your point is valid maybe you hate him but i feel bad and sorry for him, akainu took advantage of his emotion specially the anger inside him, and Oyajii understand that, thats why he only hug Squard and wasnt mad at him. I too was once mad at Squard but I came to realize that my anger should be redirected to Akainu for being such a Beycht!
By the way, Luffy is not resistant to the sea or water, but to seastone. This means that Luffy is not affected by water unless there is seastone, he can swim.
