This is the genius of Luffy as "Joyboy" aka Gear 5: He's so powerful now that he's giving Kaido the beating of his life, warping reality as he does it, and laughing his balls off. As Luffy battles, *we* the viewers, are laughing with him. In other words, Luffy's fruit power isn't just affecting the battlefield, it's affecting us - behind the fourth wall. In the way the episode is presented, the artwork, the music, everything. There is literally no context for Luffy's abilities now, because they outright defy the genre, let alone the manga's rules on fruit powers. Luffy isn't just an incarnation of a god in One Piece, he is an incarnation of fiction itself. That's how OP his devil fruit is. Oda is a genius.

When they revealed that devil fruit awakenings let the user turn their surroundings into a material like with Doflamingo and Katakuri, I initially thought there surely wouldn't be many ways to do interesting things with that and rubber for Luffy. 1071 and 1072 proved that wrong in general, especially with Gum Gum Counterblow, that one is incredibly creative and insane to see

After waiting a year and a half to see the gear 5 in action, we can say that this was an iconic moment from the anime that was simply magnificent.

I've come back to this so many times after first watching it, can you imagine how painful that hit would have been!? Dude's face, skull and brain got bent through the back of his head with the force of a freight train while he was already horribly injured and it sent him flying. Not even gonna mention the disrespect on Luffy's part with the countdown.

I love how the anime incorporated and emphasized so many of the little references to some of Luffy’s biggest attacks throughout the series. He literally just blitzed through the air at breakneck speed with the Propeller Move from all the way back in Arlong Park

There's never been anyone in fiction who's more fitting to have toon force than Luffy. His fight style has always been very toon like. This just kicked that into overdrive.

Up until now, we only got a glimpse of how devastating a fighter wielding Toon Force is, in "conventional" combat (not including any Death Battle matches).

Even Kaido is having fun. Kaido May be a villain but he is a very very HONORABLE FIGHTER. The best thing about Kaido is that he abominate those who cheats in battle. That’s why he is a seasoned favorite among fans.

There's 1 interesting feature in this scene. Luffy demonstrated the abilities of 2 devil fruits here: Bellamy's and Buffalo's.

I love how after punching Kaido we hear the sound effect of a bouncing ball. It just goes to show how much Luffy's Awakened Devil Fruit powers have an effect on not only the environment but also the people around him.

Such a cool power. So different from anything we’ve seen before. Can’t help but laugh when watching it. Oda really bringing joy to everyone with this power up.

Toon physics as a superpower is severely underrated and needs to be a thing in more works.

The amount of force he's got to be using is insane. Compressing not only his only body to generate more force on impact but also launching himself using the environment, like the pin ball attack he was generating speed with every bounce. Those hits would definitely hurt like a mf.

I love how fluid this whole sequence is from the moment luffy gets smacked in the head. He takes it serious enough to respond then makes it goofy again. Watching the whole arena become rubber under kaido's feet was so cool. Along with the music this fight is literally so high energy and I can't wait to see it in video game.

Now, imagine being punched so hard it caves in your skull, and drives the shattered bones out the back of your head. _Now_ , imagine that happening, and then the bones being sucked back in to fill the vacuum when the fist is pulled away. Luffy's powers are like the Mask except, the Mask was the reincarnation of Loki the God of Mischief whereas, JoyBoy is the reincarnation of Nika the Sun God. Both have reality warping powers but the Gum-Gum fruit relies mostly on rubber powers. Luffy activating gear fifth is like putting on a mask, Luffy is still Luffy but gear fifth represents himself in a different dimension. Since the fruit has been missing for 800 years, it seemed to have chosen Luffy which goes back to the role of destiny and devil fruit having sentience.

I have to admit, I wonder how that punch felt to kaido with a mixture of being punched so hard his fist was 3 feet behind your skull, but also dragging it with it, along with being treated like a cartoon where such a thing was possible in the first place. And ended with the fact that it was clearly backed up by the whole armament/conquerors combo that is what it takes to actually hurt a beast like kaido.
