I loved how Starlight chose Fluttershy's throne since the whole episode revolves around The Butterfly Effect. The details in the series are just amazing.
This is very difficult, isn't it. So we get Starlight's backstory. Now, I don't find this unreasonable at all, Starlight was probably mentally unstable from the beginning. And later in life she found out she had these amazing powers. Basically, she never had to grow up. Then she founded her town. She would never be alone again. Then, along comes Twilight to completely ruin her life. Now, this hits Starlight in her core, and it hits hard. She lost all her friends, again. She stops thinking rationally, she vows to take revenge... even if it mean fighting her forever... That's my way of trying to make it make sense...

+Lord Apple Her motivation is basically "When I was little, I had a friend, and one day, he moved away. And I couldn't be bothered to keep in contact via letters, or maybe make a trip to visit him, because reasons." And instead of dealing with it like a normal person dealing with a simple and COMMON problem that most people run into at least once in their lives, she took a flying leap off the deep end. That's why she became a brainwashing fascist lunatic and was willing to risk destroying the world just to take personal vengeance on someone who was completely justified in the action she wants vengeance for. It's a really, REALLY weak backstory.
OKay the one thing that caught me off-guard about the episode was simply how dark it was: When i realized what they were doing, at first i thought, "Okay, nice concept, goig through timelines where different villains won" Then all the stuff with the war started, and then i saw how badass RD looked in that timeline, but what really got me was the last alternae timeline: Literally everyone is dead. There is no life, anywhere, not even remains like bones or something. Except for a few dead trees and hills in the background, absolutely everything is dead. Everyone had died. The Mane 6, Celestia, every other pony, even all the villains were completely erased. THAT is dark.
I'm really annoyed by people who say "If they weren't there to defeat Discord how can Sombra take over Equestria?" And don't seem to realize that it isn't just the Mane 6 losing their friendship, its also them taking different paths and affecting other people who will also take different paths due to the change. The whole world could be reconstructed into one where Discord was defeated by Celestia again since she still owns the elements. Or maybe he wasn't released. Thousands of possibilities could have happened.
I don't mind reformation, this show hasn't failed to make it not work. I love Discord, I love Sunset, and now I love Starlight. Also Twilight is the Princess of Friendship, if she had to rely on banishing, she fails in her title
I disagree, I think that one of the lessons a Princess might have to learn is that she will sometimes have to make heartbreaking or difficult decisions, like when Celestia banished Luna to the moon. I figured it would be a good character arc for Twilight, as Celestia could help her through her guilt as she understands the feeling herself.
Luffyiscool I just think her being able to banish any pony she cant help is an even bigger cop out than reformation. Not saying the idea isnt interesting, just not sure how well it would be done. Besides apparently banishment doesnt work so well, they just come back even more pissed off.
+Storm Wind Yeah, the whole banishing/imprisoning people thing seems to have tendency to backfire on people in this series. I mean, just look at their track record: Nightmare Moon: Escaped, nearly took over the world, just barely stopped by the heroes. Admittedly, she reformed, but it was still a close call. Discord: Escaped, caused chaos, imprisoned again, released, caused chaos, reformed, regressed and caused chaos, reformed and still causes chaos (albeit less dangerous or malicious). Sombra: Returned and just barely stopped by the heroes after nearly taking control of the Crystal Empire, with the potential to cause a devastating war. Tirek: Returned and not only managed to essentially outmaneuver the heroes at almost every turn, but even convinced one of their reformed allies to return to his old ways. Dazzlings: Immediately took advantage of the arrival of Equestrian magic in their world to begin plotting world domination, just barely stopped by the heroes, and only because they received aid from one of their reformed allies. Heck, even the VILLAINS attempting to imprison or banish people tends to work out poorly for them. Chrysalis was foiled because she imprisoned Twilight and Cadance, allowing them to regroup and stop her. Tirek betraying and imprisoning Discord allowed Twilight to find what she needed to stop him, and imprisoning the three princesses allowed the main cast to easily restore order once he was defeated by returning their leaders to power. The Dazzlings lost because trapping the main cast together forced them to confront each other, work out their differences, and realize what they needed to win. Starlight trapping Twilight in the time loop directly led Twilight to figuring out the only way she could stop her. Seriously, imprisoning or banishing people in this series almost never seems to work. If you don't kill them or befriend them, they WILL come back to hoof-slap you right in the face.
When Spike mentioned Celestia in the Nightmare Moon timeline, I kind of thought of that scene in The Lion King where Scar yells at the hyenas for talking about Mufasa. XD
Someone needs to write a fanfic of this episode where Twilight has to somehow 'fix' the future before Starlight let's her come to the past. Imagine just how long and amazing this fic could be if written by a good writer!
A lot of people considr Starlight's turnaround to be a sudden and abrupt 180. Really happy that you recognized it as being gradual! I've posted these thoughts elsewhere, but to reiterate... I felt that Starlight's backstory was too weak to fully explain her motivations and power. However, I think it could have been a lot stronger with a couple of changes: 1) In my head, I like the notion of Starlight having been a "late bloomer". That line she said about not all ponies being lucky enough to get their Cutie Marks at the same time as their friends really resonated. So... 2) What if instead of just one friend, Starlight had had a group of friends as a filly? What if one by one they had each gotten their Cutie Marks while the "late bloomer" never got hers? One by one, they all go off to other parts of Equestria to pursue their special talents. Perhaps as Luffy suggested, Starlight even gets teased for taking so long to get her Cutie Mark while all of her former friends got theirs and left. 3) If her backstory had played out like that, I would have felt for Starlight much more strongly, and I also would have been able to understand how she would have wanted to create a place where everyone was equal and no one ever left. 4) I also like the idea of a lonely, "late bloomer" Starlight delving into lesser known magic as a result of her being all alone. In the season opener, she mentioned Mage Meadowbrook, and Twilight remarked on not having studied "Eastern unicorns" as much as she should have. So rather than just being more powerful, I like the idea that Starlight simply learned different, lesser known magic, and therefore Starlight and Twilight could now learn a lot from each other.

I'm with u Luffy, I thought this episode was AWESOME, everything u said about Starlights Redemption I agree with and it makes me think of Yoda's saying in Star Wars "fear leads to anger, anger leads to hate and hate leads to suffering", in my mind Starlight hasn't reached the same point as a villain than say Sombra, Tirec or Nightmare Moon, it's more that she's angry and hurting from events of the past which by the finale includes the premiere. Also this episode gives us Cameo's from EVERY MAJOR VILLAIN, OMG!!!!!!!!!! I loved seeing every single one of these guys again (though I wish we got more King Sombra with some dialogue as well but heh it's still EPIC), I also felt that the possible future explorations in the first three were good choices, we already knew what would have happened in an equestria ruled by Discord, Tirec was too recent and flim and flam aren't that big in terms of villains (though damn what did they do to Sweet Apple Acres).

At first, I wasn't sure about that dialogue scene where Starlight has a change of heart. It seemed to be taking the right way but the scene just seemed lacking to me. However, on second viewing I feel like it's much better. Not really sure why, but I just do. And that's good. :) Funny how you said the show's concept is that "everyone can be shown friendship". I recently counted every antagonist, big and small, including EqG, and only about 1/4th of them have been reformed. :P
RubberyCat Well, I was thinking more about every antagonist, big and small. They've yet to reform, at least, the following: Chrysalis, Sombra, the Sirens, Tirek, Principal Cinch, Flim and Flam, the Diamond Dogs, the Dragons in "Dragon Quest", Lightning Dust, Ahuizotl, Mane-iac, Suri Polomare, Wind Rider, Spoiled Rich and Svengallop. There may be more, but those are the ones I can think of right now. Also, I'm kinda on the edge if Nightmare Moon should be considered "reformed" or not. 50/50 on that. Yes, it's true that Luna saw the error of her ways and turned back good, but she wasn't actually as much reformed as the evil magic that she let consume herself was beaten out of her.
+RubberyCat I've always thought it was sort of a "Majin Vegeta" thing. Envious of her sisters power, she allowed herself to be engulfed in evil which granted her great power, but corrupted her mind.

You asked what happened when Discord escaped? Well, think how he got out- it wasn't prophecy! It was the CMC. they released him. Without the mane 6, Sweetie Belle wouldn't live with Rarity in Ponyville, and Scootaloo wouldn't have an honorary guardian/sister (RD). They most likely wouldn't be friends. Also, Sombra probably is stronger than Nightmare Moon. He could have overthrown her! :) :)

I wonder why Twilight never mentioned the fact that they were the element bearers, and that's why they were so important. Too easy maybe? One thing's for sure though, Rainbow is a badass. If it weren't for her, Equestria would be screwed. On top of that, she kept fighting despite losing a wing.
Even if she mentioned her and her friends were element bearers, it's likely Starlight wouldn't believe her or listen at all. The only thing in her mind is the mane 6 taking away her village.

I actually hoped for it (not that I think every villain should be reformed though) ...but I was kinda hoping they would wait a little, you know? I kinda felt that she is not truly "evil" but acting from fear and a hurtful trauma ever since she screamed at Twilight "QUIET!!" (cuz that was fearful defense disguised as aggression in my eyes). But still I wanted her to last as a villain for a bit longer. For now we have so many happy friends we actually need more new villains. But in this season they changed the status quo so much that I can only guess there is much new to come in the future. It feels like they are re-arranging some formulas to make place for new exciting stuff. You are very sympathetic and I hope you stay in the fandom for long. Take care!

I love this finale because of just how crazy it gets. I love how the episode starts with Twilight Sparkle practicing a speech she's going to deliver to a bunch of magic students. This is great because it shows just how far she has come. I love how one of the slides in her presentation is the CMC and another one is Rainbow Dash's rainboom and it's effect on the main 6. I love how Moondancer is there taking notes. I love how in the middle of the speech Starlight Glimmer is just there and at 1st it doesn't register but then she looks back and Starlight is just gone. I love how Spike says it would be crazy for Starlight to come back for revenge to make Twilight Sparkle feel better. And then she's just at the Cutie Map in literally one of the most relaxed positions. I love how cocky and competent Starlight is as a villain. I love the design of the time spell and how it just negates the magic Twilight Sparkle throws at it. It's funny how just touching the scroll drags Twilight and Spike back into the past. I love how it takes a second for Twilight Sparkle to remember she has wings. I love how Spike walks right off of Cloudsdale because he forgets only pegusi and alicorns can walk on clouds. I love how they both completely forgot about Starlight to watch Rainbow Dash's race. I love how Starlight is so good at using magic she can fly with levitatation and still use other magic. I love all the crazy awesome bad futures because of the interesting possibilities for fan fiction but especially the 1st one because we get an actual pony war. Also apparently Rainbow Dash became hardcore in this future having a metal wing and a chunk missing out of her ear and she has a scar. I also love Pinkie Pie and Maud being badass. I also love Celestia doing well in a fight. I really like the explanation for why the map still exists. I love how prepared Starlight Glimmer was in her plan to get revenge creating a Xanatos gambit. I love how Starlight using her great speaking to prevent the rainboom the 2nd time. I also love the scene of Twilight interacting with filly Rainbow Dash. I love the cliffhanger of the 1st part of the finale especially Fluttershy being badass. I love how in the 2nd future Chrysalis has taken over Equestria. I love getting to see Zecora being badass. I love how they explain find travel in a way most people would understand. I love how Zecora has created a village in the EverFree forest and started a resistance. I loved getting to see Chrysalis again because she is one of my favorite villains. I love the badass line Zecora delivers to Twilight Sparkle before she basically says fuck you to Chrysalis and just up and physically fights her. I love how this time when she went back in time Twilight is ready. I love how awesome the magical duel between Starlight Glimmer and Twilight Sparkle is. I love how they are both equal in terms of how magically powerful they are. I love how this time Twilight actually contributed to messing up the future by distracting Rainbow Dash with how awesome their fight was. I love how the 3rd future was one where Nightmare Moon won. I loved seeing NMM again and how she was just hamming it up. I loved seeing Rainbow Dash with a shaved head. I love how Twilight Sparkle completely outsmarts Nightmare Moon. I love how we then get a montage of different bad futures where Tirek won, Discord won and the FlimFlam brothers are destroying Equestria. I love how Twilight Sparkle and Starlight Glimmer are both willing to continue fighting as long as it takes. I love how Twilight Sparkle decides fighting won’t work and instead tries talking to Starlight and to show her one of the bad futures. I love how the last future is just complete desolation as far as the eye can see. I liked getting to see Starlight's back story even though I don't think the reason she did the things she did makes sense because it is a petty reason. I think the way Starlight gets convinced not to mess up the future although I believe her heel turn to good was a little too fast. I love how when they get back to the present a giant magic wave is created. I love how when the rest of the main 6 show up once Rainbow Dash notices Starlight she looks ready to fight. I love how this story rightfully increases Rainbow Dash's ego. It is also incredible how much their friendship has affected Equestria. I love how Twilight takes Starlight under her wing as her student so she can teach her about friendship and help her make up for what she has done. I love the song Friends Are Always There For You because of the lesson it presents and how it involves Starlight Glimmer, the main 6 and all of Ponyville. Also because Starlight will hopefully be doing things for her redemption next season I hope we get to see Sunset Shimmer in pony world next season too.
I agree with you, Luffy. I didn't want Starlight to be reformed either, but then I remembered that her name was a synonym for Twilight, and that's a sure sign that they will be reformed.
It took me quite a few rewtaches to see that in Sombras timeline, RDs ear is actually torn. I heard someone sayin it before, but i thought they were referring to the scars behind her other ear. Now i saw that the other one is, quite literally, torn. Jesus Christ this finale is dark.
Valerie Nicole Yeah, but i noticed that on the first time watching, same with the scar on her eye. Also it seems like she is what seems to be this timelines equivalent of Wonderboolts. I saw Blaze, but i didnt see Soarin or Spitfire... Maybe we already lost them through one of the deadlier attacks.. maybe RD was hit by the same attack, though not fatally.
+Max Mustermann at first i though soarin and spits were the ones flying besides rainbow during the opening of the battle, but their eyecolors are off, so i guess it's not them. i'm not sure, but maybe the mare jumping one of sombra's soldiers at 17:55 in the top right corner could be spitfire. hard to tell with the masks, but she has the right coat and eye color at least. also yeah, i did notice rainbow's ear during my first viewing. the scar over here eye as well.
I felt the same way about the idea of altering the past. I was happy to get over that before the episode aired. Could take or leave the reformation of Starlight, but the concept of time travel and altering the past is guaranteed to have plot holes big enough to swallow Canterlot. So...... with that out of the way a few weeks ahead of time, I was prepared to just sit back and enjoy the visuals, which there were plenty of. :)
I´ve seen quite a few angry with the reforming, the same people who every season complain about having the same opening. Don´t they see that if she gets added to the mane cast the chances of a new intro are greater now?

The biggest flaw in Starlight's plan is the classic time paradox. If she stops the Mane Six form becoming friends, she won't ever encounter them, thus never have a reason to mess with the past. *sigh* So much for her intellect and cunning. Have Discord take her horn and send her to the moon for a century. That'll sort her out.
She had to try and stop her as seeing Starlight in her own home, Twilight had better get some guards for season 6, didn't give her much time to think about it. Much less rest during her in between bouts with starlight. Her redemption came way too easy but at least we'll hopefully get some fanfic's involving her going to Villain Reform School where she's the new student and has a upperclassman, or Sempai, in the form of Discord.
I've been wondering, how, in all the other alternate futures, was Nightmare Moon defeated? In the war with Sombra, it's Celestia that leads the charge against the Crystal Empire, and even in the one with Discord coming back, Luna's there being toyed with, so how did they manage to beat her in all the other timelines?
I think in regards to Starlight Glimmer, I'd have liked her to be a reoccurring villain-- not reformed, not banished. A 'normal' unicorn pony who was just always one step ahead of Twilight. Their personalities were sort of the opposite side of the same coin. That being said, I don't mind that she was reformed. I like that aspect of the show. However, I do feel it happened to quickly and cleanly (even though it did occur bit-by-bit). To be fair, though, it's nice that we don't know exactly how much time passes in the song. I'd have liked her being a villain for a longer period of time and reforming further on down the line, I guess.

I have a theory on how this one day could have so many different Outcomes:In the Sombra and changeling Timelines, Celestia must have killed(or something Close to that) Nightmaremoon, since she couldnt use the Elements to seal her again, after that she must have been devastated, walks in the garden and thinks about happier times, like when they won against discord, thats when she notices that the seal on discord is getting weaker, and uses a spell to strenghten it again, so discord never got free in those timelines. However Sombra and chrysalis happen around the same time, and when celestia stops one, the other starts taking over. Which one Celestia chooses is determined by the Butterfly effect in the Form of Fluttershy: In the Sombra timeline, Starlight intervenes AFTER Flutters fell down, while in the changeling timeline Fluttershy ended up befriending the bullies. This causes Flutters to become a tougher warrior in Zecoras village, while the Version that ended up on the ground still moves to ponyville even without her mark, since she already sang the song about staying, untill she moves to manehatten to shear sheep. How does this Change the villain line up? well the Fluttershy on the ground could still bring parasprites to town, which celestia has to get rid off since pinkie isnt there. So in one timeline Celestia has to clean up one investation around the middleof Season one, while in the other she has two, which could affect her decision as to wether she attacks Chrysalis or Sombra first.When Twilight and Starlight fight, it draws some Attention to them, eventually Celestia hears the rumors about the purple alicorn sighting in cloudsdale, which slightly influences her life Prior to Nightmare moons return, probably causes her to dodge a laser to the left, when she should have gone right, leading to nightmare moons victory. The incident, where twilight seals up rainbow by mistake, causes Celestia to hear the news about a foal being attacked by an unknown culprit, it reminds her of how Luna always took care of scared children as Guardian of the dream world (if she was anything like present day Luna, or the Luna from children of the night or Snowdrop) and those memories are able to convince Luna to become good again, but without the grief, they dont notice discords seal to crumble, like in the original timeline.I havent got many theories about the other timelines origins, but the wasteland could be the result of multiple or all villains fighting, while the Flimflam/Ferngully like one is one where celestia wins against all villains, but hasnt got time to care about the economy.
So Luffy I noticed that in every future except one I saw that skull looking thing on the map. The only time I did not see it was in the last possible future where it was suppose to be. Just an interesting thought.

i was actualling hoping for the season to end on a cliffhanger, i knew within the first half that this would be liek the crystal empire, in which twilight wouldnt be able to solve the problem by herself, i was hoping that wite time travel involved that she might actually use magic to hold reality together while sending spike back to maybe get sunset shimmer? but then suddenly friendship! which leaves a lot of ponderings as to how and what role starlight glimmer will play her name is almost similar to twilights and she has a powerful understanding of magic. and she can affect cutie marks. with the cutie marks castle toy possibility of alicorn status? cus she just did what twilight did to gain alicorn status alter starswirl the bearded magic?
Am I the only one who noticed that only in the first two timelines there were ponies were fighting against the villains while the rest essentially there isn’t anyone fighting back

If Starlight joins the Mane 6 and therefore gets her own segment of the opening theme, what would she sing? I suppose we'll have to wait for Season 6 and spam our own theories about it until then.
I feel like Starlight Glimmer works as an ally. Hopefully she remains like Discord, an anti-hero who uses her cunning for good. It'd make for an interesting character if she still has outbursts as a good guy.
songofthesouthfan2 Starlight, as we've seen, is EXTREMELY ill-tempered, and I have faith that the writers will take advantage of that character flaw, as they have with Discord. Kind of like Anakin Skywalker. Extremely powerful, but misguided and lost.

+Wesley Darnell I have to disagree with you on Sunset, but I think it's just differing views on what being "reformed" entails. She acknowledged that she was wrong after the climax of the first film, and had completely changed her ways by the time the second movie started. RR was about her forgiving herself and trying to convince others to accept that she'd changed, but the change already happened. If the former is all it takes, then Starlight and Sunset reformed in about the same amount of time. If the latter is what it takes, then Starlight hasn't actually reformed yet since she's basically at the same point Sunset was at the end of the first movie/beginning of the second. I think I'll wait to see how they handle Starlight in the next season, because I agree that what I think of her reforming will really depend on how they treat her interactions AFTER she's changed her outlook. That said, let's be honest, how many of the shows reformed characters DO get the attention that they probably should? I mean, Discord had a surprisingly long term redemption arc (after all, as certain later episodes showed, he was far from being fully reformed even after befriending Fluttershy), but aside from him we rarely see much after they've decided to try to change their ways. Even Luna only got about one episode that really focused on her struggles dealing with people after her change, and imo, it was way too long after her introduction. You'd think the villain from the show's premiere would warrant a bit more immediate attention.
but you are missing +Wesley Darnell point about Sunset Shimmer, in the 2nd movie the school (other then the main 6) HATED HER, even before the Dazzlings showed up, EVEN APPLE BLOOM (whose sister is friends with Sunset) disliked her. ------ it was not until Sunset sang at the end that the school trusted her as she was the one that really broke the spell.

You really just can't hope that people will shut up, best way to ensure blindness is to not interact with social media until you watch the new ep. Very sorry you were spoiled. I noticed you liked my post about the ep on MLPF, Luffy. :) So I won't rant too much here. I will say that while I don't 'mind' Starlight's reformation (outside the weak backstory), she would have had so much more potential remaining as a villain, remaining as Twilight's antithesis. Reforming Discord was interesting, because he's charismatic and incredibly funny and unpredictable whether he's good or bad. But Starlight as a good guy is just Twilight 2.0.
He wasn't spoiled by anyone. He was looking for a good-quality episode so he had to watch a little to get a feel for the quality. It's nobody's fault but his.

Well, Twilight DID say she was willing to teach Starlight, so that would imply Starlight would stay there.. seeing as she is technically a student to Twilight at the moment
If we were to "analyze" Star's situation, we found out; that she "lost" a friend and as a consequence she distrusts magical butt tattoos (MBTs), which in turn made her put no effort into finding others to hang out with whatsoever. Because of said MBTs, one thing led to another and she founded a town with a communistic ideology. But when it turned out that she had an MBT the other townsfolk accused her of being a hypocrite. Though somewhat true, she didn't flaunt her magical prowess but instead tried to cover it up as a tool doing the job for her. They overreacted (in my opinion) and being backed into a corner Star had to react. She chose to blame Proffesor Purple Bookworm and these episodes happened. Now as for her reformation: Me thinks that Star getting her story off her chest was enough to sway herself, because realizing you made the mistake is the drive to reformation. *Spaghetti* I'm taking this show a tad too seriously, but I like what I just wrote. And honestly, the morals of the show have started to fade a bit. Don't know what that's about, but I still like the show for what it is.
I didn't think about it when I saw the episode but now would it be interesting for a spinoff that they'll be a new mane 6 with starlight as the twilight role and 5 more to replace the rest?
Wow. Reacting to this after S6 and S7 really makes me appreciate S5. It was the start of really good episodes that meant something. Not just padding towards the finale.
I feel as though Starlight is this show's equivalent to Zuko. A severely misguided person, who joins their enemy to help them fight against new threats, and whose punishment for their actions s comes from their new experiences, rather than directly from another character.
This final was just great and hope Starlight does stay, and hope that season 6 starts sooner than 9 months..so during the season break gonna get back to Adventure Time? XD If you guys wanna see my thoughts in full, well tomorrow my own let watch will be posted. I usually watch Luffyiscool before writing my thoughts down. ;P
I guess if I were to BS some explination for how the time travel worked, it would be that Starlight Glimmer made it so that the spell could anchor to any object, and go back to any time/location that specific object existed. The map is connected to the Tree of Harmony, which has roots everywhere. At least, I would guess so. So its everywhere in Equestria, and if we assume its been around for the closest we have to forever, its also everywhen.
The Tree of Harmony is pretty much the higher power of the pony world. Mysterious, yet powerful and the map itself has displayed magical properties by being able to react to anomalies all over Equestria and call forth the personified elements of harmony. Since its probably comnected to the tree itself then it only makes sense that it could break any limitations on spells and allowed Starlight to fully craft her plan from it since she essentially has an unlimited aorce of power. It kinda proves how smart and clever she is since she was able to deduce bow powerful the map was and utilize it to the best of its capabilities which was time manipulation. That's a win in my book if you ask me
Actually, Starlight explains that the altered spell would always bring Twilight back to the present after the rainboom was stopped (and that the spell would always bring Starlight to the past just before Twilight in order to prepare for her). The "anchor" you're talking about would actually be the spell itself. Twilight basically existed outside of time and couldn't be affected by any changes to the past due to her battles with Starlight literally creating new worlds.
+The Smoking Skull You could also go with a multiple timelines theory, and say that the reason Twilight Sparkle and Starlight Glimmer were not affected by any of these changes is because those are the versions of them that came from that timeline. Changing the past would create other versions of them in different timelines, but it would not _erase_ or change their own existence. They would just simply be cut off from the timeline that they had lived through.
A lot of people have issues with Starlight's backstory and motivation in this episode, but I've always thought that it made perfect sense in the context of this show. Of course being left behind by a friend would hit her hard, and while her reasoning was flawed, you can see why she would come to her conclusions. That coupled with her obvious power could propel her to do something significant. We also see in future episodes how she's clearly got an issue with some social awkwardness and anxiety; she never really emotionally matured and has had to do a lot of catch up. I'm not sure if I can argue that this is as good as Discord's redemption in Twilight's Kingdom, but it comes close, and her life and struggles afterwards especially in season 6 are realistic for what she has to learn to become a better person. Her character coupled with the excitement factor of seeing all the different timelines makes this my favorite finale to date outside of the intensely emotional Magical Mystery Cure, and one of my favorite episodes of the show in general.

I think the Applebloom would have been the right pony to help redeem Starlight, since she also experienced something similar to Starlight's: losing a friend because he gained his cutie mark. (seeing twist get her cutie mark and meeting Sweetie and Scoots)
Starlight is amazing! When I see her, I see myself because our stories are the same. My best friend left me and that changed me. I stopped believing in friendship and started saying that every person from a rich family is evil because that is why my friend left me because her rich parents wanted us to stop being friends and she listened to them but finally I met one guy and his friends and he changed me, showed me a true friendship and I apologized to everyone I offended. Because I knew people my age who are rich and I told everyone that you can't hang out with such people because they will always leave you when you get bored for them. Anyway everything ended good. I have real friends now and whenever I watch Starlight episodes, I see myself in these episodes. It's kind of weird but yes I am real Starlight Glimmer and my friends are mane 6. It's kinda funny.
Watching your reaction has inspired me to re-vamp my own rendering of this episode. I wasn't sure if I should upload it based on the newness of my channel and the stuttering at the beginning of the video, but now, I think I will go ahead and finish it.
