As a person that don't rely give much shit about the one piece dub for a while now I actually perfered his dub voice sounded like some normal teenage girl unless his voice is supposed to sound like a woman
@@XxDarkShadowLord6144 I get your point, but I feel that these "old women voices" actually fit Luffy personnality in many ways unlike Goku in Dragon ball
So I've seen the other comments about this but I don't think anyone has mentioned the double meaning of 'voll daneben'/explained it well? Obviously, as the others have already said it literally translates as '(you) missed completely' but it's also the phrase that's you use when you find someone's actions wrong. Like 'Dein Verhalten war voll daneben' would be 'your behaviour was completely wrong'
(Japenese- Nani ~ 5-5) - (French- 4-5) - (English- That all. isn't ~ To Slow~ 0/5.) ~ (German ~ Well you see the frase that all/ Too slow is completly wrong but it German it's used as a phrase Voll Daneben so it's not Too slow which is click bait for the video porposes so 1/5. Thanks for letting me write my opinion though @AD Anime
In German He actualy says ,,completly wrong'' but in German it is used as a phrase. (Voll daneben) Edit: Look at the First comment he correkted it (my English isn't is the best)
If u translate it he says not "completly wrong" A better translation would be "absolutely missed". 'Daneben' is kind of translated if u say 'beside' or 'next to it' or something like that
how luffy is supposed to speak English cause for one there was no japanese pirates and also luffy was only what 19 in this hes not gonna have a deep ass voice and it would be scratchy from all the screaming
@@mtjulien9552 you say to give more personality but isnt that also taking away from the original intent of a character?. thats like they hired you to play the joker and instead of doing the actual joker character that has been pain stakingly written to be a very very distinct way you just put the makeup on and start improving your best cowboy impression because you thought it would "give it more personality"
@@zachm5286 sometimes it fits better with the mouth movement or with the length of the sentence thats being said, in the respective language or its translated figuratively so its better understood what is meant. Theres alot more that goes in to dubbing then just translating.
@@nomeatbag i beg to differ, funimation sometimes seems like the monopoly of dubbing anime to me. they have like 10 actors never get new talents and i feel they dont ever care to do castings just use the same actors where they dont belong make them use voices they havent practiced the voice acting gig pays alot better in japan and has been around longer then us there is more quality control and the animation lip flaps are animated to the voices the manga artist picks out the voices he wants out of the talents and their is a director giving the voice artist the intentions of the line and makes them retake if they dont quite hit the intended take like in movies. you cant feel that as much with dub of one peice for example there is a scene with sanji where hes in the train in enies lobby hes supposed to be dead serious about the situation and belts namis voice in a way thats different then his usual nAAAMIIIII MY DeAR but in the english he says it the same goofy way he always does and it feels like hes not taking the situation seriously enough for whats happening this happens all the time in op dub for me
