1015 was one of the greatest episodes of One piece ever! I remember when this episode droped. Even that i read the manga i was losing my mind and got tears cause of happines and how good they nailed this episode in every way! And its just getting better!

Side note: I love that Jimbei has “Former Warlord” and “First Son of the Sea” as titles people know him as and he says “hey actually call me the Helmsman of the Straw Hat Pirates because THAT is the most valuable title I have.” What a G.

20:58 we want to watch reactions because we cannot re-experience what it is you are experiencing for the first time. I've technically re-watched One Piece 8x because of all the people who have covered it at this point. And, re-watching/reading hits hard too. We have more clarity on the entire story, can appreciate the gravitas of the moments planted hundreds of chapters in advance, and still feel the emotional depth when they come.

i love that little addition of "ill be the one to surpass you" to his usual catch-phrase, because unlike all enemies Luffy faced so far, he finally went up against the actual competitors for the treasure and end-goal that he is seeking. he finally (sort of) got to their level.

Funny thing about Kaido's fruit being the Fish-Fish Fruit, there's a Japanese fable of a koi fish braving the odds of swimming up a waterfall and when it succeeds, it jumps out as it becomes a dragon.

Episode 1015 was a cinematic experience. You can watch it as a standalone episode, you can even show it to people with no idea about the show and they'd get a good experience but if you were here for the past 1014 episodes it hits like a fucking Red Roc. It never fails to make me teary eyed with how gorgeous everything is and OST choice was also top notch. Luffy is HIM.

RED ROC!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! The fusion of Gear 2nd + Gear 3rd!!!!!!!!!!! Red Hawk flies faster with Giant Power to become an even fiery Mythical Great Bird!!!!! Speaking of birds, What made Marco prove to me that he is definitely OP strong was the flashback with Marco taking Bites out of a Pineapple with the Skin still On!!! In case you're curious, Black Maria's Zoan is of a Rosamygale Grauvogeli, a prehistoric spider. Its full species name confused so many people when it was first released & introduced in the manga, so I figured it might help to give a bit of clarity of what it is since Maria is an ancient animal zoan user {which makes sense for hers to be an ancient type too since all of Kaido's top pirate executives are Ancient Zoan Users}; and then revealing Kaido's DF as a Mythical Azure Dragon Fish is essentially a Gyarados situation

1015 is not a crazy lore drop episode. Its not a crazy action episode. Its just a solidly story-boarded, directed, and animated episode that delivers on all the emotional build up from the past couple of arcs to kick-start the beginning of Roof Piece. Even after all the episodes we've gotten since, this episode still remains up there as my favorite One Piece episode and maybe even my favorite episode in any anime.

Kaido's Mythical Fish Fish Fruit is based on the myth of the Koi fish swimming up the waterfall and transforming into a dragon. Think Magikarp evolving into Gyarados

I always wondered about this, but since Kaido's devil fruit is a mythical version of the Fish-Fish Fruit, does this mean that he can breathe underwater? It always bothered me that the Navy or other pirates who successfully captured and tried to execute him didn't simply try to drown him. Seawater weakens Devil Fruit users, it doesn't fully neutralize their powers, otherwise Chopper would revert back to a normal reindeer whenever he gets drenched by seawater, and Aokiji wouldn't be able to freeze the ocean. Kaido's subordinate, Jack, who is a Fishman Devil-Fruit User, proved that that Devil Fruit users can survive underwater provided they could breathe underwater, they just won't be able to move. Either this means that there are Devil-Fruits that could directly circumvent the biggest weakness of Devil Fruit powers or that whatever Kaido's species is (he and Yamato have horns even as children, there is no way they are baseline humans) they can breathe like Fishmen.

Idk why ace respected whitebeard. Twice he had crewmate/former crewmate killed and did nothing about it except sit back and hang out. Could you imagine luffys response if a crewmate was murdered or vivi/ other close person to the crew was killed? Wouldn't matter how strong the foe he'd go after them full force

@@mrkyt3169 he's not wrong, though. Whitebeard has always been overhyped by the community, when in reality, he's barely done anything. Oden was killed, he didn't do a single thing. Didnt even send Izo back to check. Blackbeard killed Thatch, he didn't even want Ace to go after him. He was yet again going to just sit back and do nothing, until Ace forced him. Ace got captured, he sat on his ship most of the fight and watched his men die instead of instantly breaking the island to pieces like he did after he'd been killed. He was the least used character. Even shanks stopped the war just by appearing.

I am continually amazed every time I rewatch the episode or watch reactions to episode 1015. There is not a single wasted frame in that immaculate 23 minutes and 50 seconds. The pacing, the lighting, the fluidity of subtle character acting, the clever scene transitions, the interweaving of Roger and Luffy's dream in that beautiful style, the music, the VA performances, all of it was top notch. It remains my favorite episode of One Piece ever, and easily in the top 5 of any episode of anything I've ever watched. The only negative to come out of 1015 is the number of social media asshats who disgrace this episode by using that still of Luffy with the hat pulled over his eyes as their profile picture.

the roc, or rukh, is a middle-eastern and african mythological bird of prey, it's essentially a massive hawk. so, red hawk upgrades into red roc.

Rosawhosit Whatsherface, the spider species Black Maria's Devil Fruit is based on, is the oldest known species of mygalomorphs (appearing in the Triassic, alongside the first dinosaurs), the "infraorder" that today is represented, among other species, by the tarantula. The problem is, based on what little fossils there are of it, it was tiny and honestly not all that impressive, it's carried by the popularity of its descendant. But I guess Oda wanted a spider person and needed it to be from the Mesozoic to fit the theme.

After watching the episode 1015 i realized No One actually knows what Luffy's true dream is except shanks, ace and sabo. It's just something Gol D Roger said too.
