I really like your videos. I feel like you're one of the few people that actually analizes and takes their time to understand the story, rather than just reacting to it. This is one of my favourite arcs and I am looking forward to hearing your thoughts on the rest of arc.

I agree, Timberzy has a really unique way to communicate commentary and it allows for a refreshing perspective. It’s cool to see each beat of your mindset in specific moments. This episode in particular is cool because we can see how you work out what is going through your head and how you decide what your impression is by the end.

@@emilianop8598 I don't know if it's more or less common or if I'm just finding them, but I have run across several who aren't just watching and going ooh and aah. Most of them aren't analyzing to this degree, but there are a number of them that do have their own theories and thoughts. And then there are the handful that really dig into it, like this one. Helps me see things I missed on my own.

It's never about the fights themselves. Sure, they can be some nice spectacle, but that's not enough by itself. The context of the fight, the impact, the symbolism (in some cases), that's why I like one piece. Two friends breaking apart because of stupid words said. Merry "crying" after the explosion. Luffy realizing how hard a task it is to be decisive. Zoro supporting him Nami, for whom family ties are the most important thing, who would apologize even when the other is the one who should do so if it meant keeping the (found) family together, cannot bear to see her two friends come to this. All of this is what makes this my favourite heart wrenching fight.

It runs deeper than just Usopp's pride. He mentioned it earlier that he feels inadequate. He needed this fight, and he specifically needed to go all out and try to win so that he could prove that he could keep up with the Monster Trio. It's unrealistic, and that's not his role, but he feels like they're growing too far beyond him, so that he doesn't have any right to stay on their ship. The Merry was just a physical representation of that, where it seems like they outgrew it and left it behind because it was dead weight. That's why the guilt was so heavy that he had to fight a losing battle against the Franky family too. It's really fantastic writing how Oda maneuvered it so that Usopp would be absent for all the major developments about the ship, making it more of a gut punch when they tried to bring him up to speed. And Luffy's an idiot, o he had no ability to break it to him softly. All coherent and character accurate. This is why Oda is the king.

When I was watching this episode I held Luffy more accountable because I felt that his job as a captain in that argument was to deescalate the problems and understand his crew mates. He didn’t do any of that during his argument with Ussop and only confirmed Ussop’s flawed belief that if you’re useless to the straw hats they’ll just throw you away like the Merry. As I look at it now I see Luffy’s argument but I still believe that he could’ve brung Ussop the information more gracefully and tried to deescalate the situation.

I never really took into account the fact that yeah, "there SHOULD be people noticing a big ass explosion by the bay" or someone walking up. I guess it's just the story teller's way of justifying "this is an official duel between 2 men and should not be interrupted by a gag or something".

Yes, Zoro is ''first mate'' as hierarchy, but both Zoro and Sanji has that vice cpt vibe, they just do it for different situations. Zoro is more Marshall and Strict, Sanji more emotional e comprehensive, Luffy needs both of them for his path as a great Captain.

hmm I really don't like this reaction, it misses the thing completely, we KNOW ussop can't win, like it's totally impossible for Usopp to win, we see Ussop display all of his tecniques, not because he is going to win, but because he is doing literally everything he has and knows againts the insuperable wall that is Luffy, every tactic that Ussop si doing is out of desperation and thus should be looked upon as a "stupid tactic" that may or may not work, but as a show of Usopp literally desperation that makes him use everything of himself, this is partially due to you being completely on Luffy side instead of being more empathetic to both sides.

There we go. That's it. Hurt people hurt people. Trite, but accurate. Usopp did take it too far. None of them had the right tools to deal with this, but Usopp wound up hurting the people that he loved along with himself. There were no winners here. The fight is rarely the focus in One Piece. Sure, some of them look really cool, but it's what led up to it it or what happened after it that's the focus. ----------------- The structure of the crew is more of a flat organization. _Technically_ there is only Captain and crew, but Zoro has effectively filled the position of first mate almost from the beginning.

I understand and agree on why you feel upset with Usopp and the way he lashed out, but I think an important thing that many people tend to overlook is how Luffy sort of failed Usopp here. Yes, it was wrong for Usopp to challenge Luffy to a duel, but Luffy had the option to just not fight him in the first place like Nami said. If Luffy had recognized why Usopp was lashing out and helped him understand how much he means to the crew, this could've been avoided. But he chose to to fight him instead, which only served to reinforce Usopp's insecurities about being weak, being a burden, and his fears that they'll abandon him. Usopp tried to throw a wedge between himself and the crew, but it wouldn't have gotten this bad if Luffy the situation better.

Yes Zoro is 1st mate. He is the first person to be recruited to the crew. So he fits the role well when he has his moments when he isn't fighting an enemy.

To be honest I didn't think to much about it since I think fighting Luffy would be hopeless. I would maybe try to have balls filled with the seawater to shoot at Luffy to slow him down. It would be nice to get some sea prism stone to eventually pin Luffy down but again probably not gonna happen.

Let me help you out a bit with one of the Q&A sections from the manga regarding DFs and their weakness to water from the author himself. Totally spoiler free and helpful going forward!: SBS Volume 41 Reader: Odacchi! Here's a question for you! Crocodile can't fight water because he's "sand," right? Then how does he bathe?! Does he at all?! That's filthy!! Do you bathe, Odacchi? by Crocodile's Mother Oda: First of all, let's discuss the problem of Devil Fruit users bathing themselves. People who have eaten a Devil Fruit are "hated" by the sea, and cannot swim. The "sea" here can refer to anything from rivers, pools and baths to any kind of standing water. On a worldwide level, they are all the "sea." When these people enter the water, not only can they not use their powers, they have trouble moving their bodies at all. They might be able to struggle a bit, but it wouldn't do much good. That's if their entire bodies are submerged in the "sea." With less than half the body or just the limbs, it gets easier. Also, rain and dripping water have no effect at all. Therefore, hip baths or showers are the most common choice. Now, in Crocodile's case, "water" is the weakness of his very powers, so his abilities are robbed even in the shower. But it's not like there are enemies around when you take a shower, so I'd bet he would take them even with his powers being blocked. Don't you think? ---And to answer your final question, about myself bathing. As it happens, I do bathe. Twice! In a year!

So unfortunately (well... actually: fortunately) a water balloon wouldnt do anything but amuse Luffy. In the live action they changed that somewhat, making DF users seemingly easy to get the drop on if all you have to do is splash them. Odd choice imo.

The first time I read this chapter in the manga, I understand Usopp's frustration. Then he starts claim that Iceburg and Galley-La's shipwright is a fraud and that's when I dislike him. This is the 2nd time he does something like this. In Jaya, he also accuses Cricket to be a liar too. So this is what I dislike about him. He does have his moment through out the series, but these 2 incidents make him to be my least favorite strawhat so far. 🤔🧐

The Cricket connection is a good one but I liked how Usopp immediately realized he was wrong and apologized. He handled this situation much worse but I still have faith he will rejoin. I personally still like Usopp just not this moment by him.

Favorite Strawhat would be Luffy, I know that's probably a boring pick but I still think he's the best. Non-strawhat is probably Shanks although he's not in the series a lot.

Come in dude.. 1st you failed to understand what happened in Long Ring Long Land even though a big part of the reason was Toei literally destroying that arc in the anime. Long Ring Long Land in the manga was really good and it setup a lot of stuff for Water 7 Arc including Ussop's and Luffy 's MENTAL and EMOTIONAL state. The "losing crewmate" part, the OP's world geological part and how it interconnected throughout the history also were setup in LRLL Arc. Please get your facts straight. Sea Water will do jackshit to Luffy in this Ussop vs Luffy. Luffy is NOT weak to Sea Water. The same MOST of devil fruit users. Only STILL water (YES, WATER, any water or liquid, not just seas water) that cover 1/3 or more devil fruit user will WEAKEN the user. That's why df users will drown in the sea or pool because they lost their energy and eventually were unable to move to swim.

I feel exactly the same. Luffy didn't deserve all that.. I understand why Usopp behaved like he did, and I get that Luffy misplayed things when telling Usopp initially. But Usopp drove a wedge into this super tight crew bc of insecurity and selfishness. Insubordinate and churlish! smh
