Isn't it weird that the registration serials of the last aircraft both ended with F?
Eyo and welcome to my Fleet Histories series where we take a look at the operational history of aircraft fleets both active and retired. Passenger airliners are normally featured, although freighter and government aircraft will be covered occasionally. This series was inspired by the videos of elmauriplatense, Ibirdball, Scaring Crab, and many other aviation RU-vidrs.
Lufthansa's entry into the jet age began when it signed an order for 4 Boeing 707-420s in 1956, making it the first customer of that particular version of Boeing's first jetliner. The -420 was identical to the previous -320, albeit fitted with Rolls-Royce Conway turbofans instead of the JT4A turbojet. The first of the type made its maiden flight on December 1959 before being handed over to the airline in February 1960. Over the course of nearly 25 years, Lufthansa operated a total 23 707s before retiring their last aircraft, a 707-320 variant, in 1984.
