Join me on this great 9 hours and 45 minute flight from Frankfurt Germany to Vancouver Canada.
After take off in rainy Frankfurt, the routing took us towards Denmark, Norway, Iceland and over Greenland into Canada Territory. The flight ended with an amazing approach over British Columbia right before landing in Vancouver on RWY26R
Shot in 4 K with Sony-DSC-RX10II - Enjoy.

That jet burns approximately 1 gallon of fuel per second - but holds more than enough to easily keep it aloft for 10 hours. 800,000 pounds, lifts off the ground effortlessly, blows through the atmosphere at nearly 600mph and on this flight, lands as gently as a falling feather. 747s may be outdated and inefficient compared to 777/787 versions but they still never fail to impress.

Wonderful but bittersweet for me. I am Canadian born but living in Geneva, Switzerland since 1996. I would often travel home and 2015 was the last time I came for a "normal" Xmas with my parents before my father developed severe dementia and passed away durng the holidays 2017-2018 (was there also fortunately). 2015 I came for a visit and also flew the same Lufthansa flight through Frankfurt and possibly the same 747-400! Same view at any rate.

I love watching videos of these beautiful jets taking off, landing and flying. I rarely see comments on the pilots and their talents and ability's. My twenty year old nephew earned his pilots license about eight months ago. Three months ago he earned his certification to fly single prop aircraft with retractable landing gear. His goal is to become a commercial airline pilot. I went up with him once so far and it was awesome. I have a lot of respect for pilots. I never knew how much work,dedication, and love of flying it takes to become a pilot. Of course you also need the funds to achieve that goal. My brother makes a good living and my nephew worked his ass off to pay for it so the financial part was the least of his worries to achieve what he has and for what it will take to reach his goal. Whenever you fly just remember the dedication and the love of flying that the pilots have to make sure you and your family get to your destination safely. They deserve the upmost respect.

In 1997, long time ago, I have visited Canada, British Columbia and Alberta provinces. Our journey started from Frankfort airport and lead us to Vancouver. Upon " Transat Airlines", a Canadian Airline. Via Scotland, Faroer, Iceland, Greenland....----> Hudson Bay, Manitoba, Saskatchewan---> Alberta to our destination Vancouver. Magnificent. We have crossed Greenland while midnight sun was still shining at 1 a.m. (!). Eleven hours of flight, a break of 45 minutes in Calcary.... 9 hours time zone difference to Germany... 3 days jetleg, but the what a phantastic scenery it was there. UNFORGETTABLE !!! Thank you so much for the upload. With very best regards from old Germany, Rainer

+Stacie45 Very true your observation. There are alot of good Canadians, the hostile and arrogant ones like kal are British Columbians that think that the world by default should revolve around Vancouver, and has to take notice. I spent 25 years of my life there, so I know what the "B.C. mentality" is like. And NO Vancouver is not the first, last or only place in the world that has hosted an exposition, world fair, world soccer championship or served as a filming location!

Yes, and you could see the long vapor trail behind it. It's kind of interesting how the aircrafts don't start making those trails until going over about 400 mph and are at least 20,000 ft high. You don't see planes taking off and landing making those trails, since only going about 200 mph then.

I wrote this here 2 years ago. Now it is buried way down in the older comments section. I know it is way too many words. I may summarize it in point form in the near future. After a lifetime of studying the geography of Western Canada, I have been able to pick out many landmarks along the route of this flight. Up to 7:15, it is the high arctic, at 7:16 it suddenly becomes the Great Plains, or Prairie, of north-west Alberta Province, the Canadian Rocky Mountains, distinctive in shape and color, are hit at 7:30, the lack of roads and an upcoming landmark tell me this is the huge protected regions of northern Jasper National Park and the Willmore Wilderness Provincial Park 500 km east of Edmonton city, they are among the wildest regions of southern Canada. The Reef Icefield, named for the prehistoric marine fossils found in the region and one of several big glaciers in the range, becomes visible at upper left at 8:15 and remote Twintree Lake, its shape and position exact as shown on google maps, becomes visible at 8:42, but the main landmark, positively identified - I know it well - is Mt Robson, 3954 meters/12972 feet, highest in Canada's Rocky Mountains at 10:30 in the lower left corner, that is Berg Lake to the right of it, and Kinney Lake just to the left of it, both are famous trekking areas. Mt Whitehorn is the high peak immediately north of Mt Robson, the view is always looking north and is all in Mt Robson Provincial Park, British Columbia Province, Mt Robson's 3000 meter/10,000 foot high west face is plainly visible at 11:50 at lower right, there are many photos of it on google images, as there are of the north face and Berg Lake. The large and deep valley of the Rocky Mountain Trench - it is 1500 km long - is crossed at 12:00-12:20, the camera then cuts to the northern Columbia Mountains, named after the upper Columbia River, largest in western North America, it starts here and eventually flows into the USA 800 km south, the Fraser River, almost as large, starts here too, it flows 1200 km to the city of Vancouver. At 13:05 the distinctive right angle bend at upper left of Hobson and Azure Lakes in huge Wells Gray Provincial Wilderness Park become visible, most this region is very difficult to access on the ground, even for wilderness travel experts, roads give access to the main features and run through many of the main valleys. At 13:30 the plane crosses into the dry interior basin and plateau region of central British Columbia, it is a mining, timber, wood fiber/paper making and cattle ranching region. At 14:38 the Coast-Cascade Mountains are reached, they run along North America's entire Pacific Ocean Coast, that is the glacial-green north end of Harrison Lake, about 100 km east of Vancouver city. The rest of the flight is over these mountains to Vancouver city, these mountains are obviously still very wild despite their proximity to a city of 2.5 million people, occasionally logging-mining roads and areas where cut-blocks, areas where trees have been removed for timber are visible, it is widespread and does create wealth and employment, but I am pleased that some areas are still undamaged. Prehistoric glacially gouged valleys are visible everywhere, especially at 16:50, the north end of Pitt Lake, the south end almost touches Vancouver's edge, is visible at 18:45, then on to the city, the Fraser River flows through it, the main harbour and the city center are not visible at the base of the mountains in the distance. I lived my early years in Vancouver from 1960-1980 - a great city then, less so now - I have also lived in Calgary and Edmonton, and many towns large and small between these 3 cities, including the famous mountain sport/resort towns of Banff, Jasper, and Whistler. And of course, this airplane was designed and built 250 km south of Vancouver by our good neighbors and friends in Seattle, Washington State, USA, who share many of the geographic features seen in this video which continue farther south into their northern regions.
@alvexok5523
@alvexok5523 3 года назад
Hey, I like your description. I've always been interested in picking out geography too. You're really spot-on with each of your descriptions. The high Arctic areas up til 7:15 are beautiful. A frozen tundra where the ground temperatures are probably in the -30s farenheit, but great scenery still. I'm assuming that it's somewhere in the Nunavut or Northwest territories, you'd probably be better than me at guessing which one
